teach a new angler how to take care of their equipment. Grease and lube up your reels regularly and make sure to dry off your lures to prevent hook rust.

After teaching a new angler how to fish a topwater lure such as a Pop-R, i'd then tell them when the best times and situations were for topwater action.

River Pro

After mastering the art of casting, i'd teach a new angler how to flip and pitch.

I'd show them the difference between a spinning reel and a baitcasting reel and the advantages and disadvantages of them both.

The best bite is usually in low light, early morning and late evening, while larger bass are taken at night and around noon. Teach them to get their limit early then when other anglers are packing up to escape the heat go for a few kicker bass. Be the last to load the boat.

:) :) First I'd ask how much they knew about fishing, prior experiences and what type tackle had they used before.........Find their comfort zone,...........Then ask if they would like to progress in the art of catching fish and find the right tackle for them to use to the best of THEIR ability. I would show them what they could use now, later with practice and the best in the house that they could progress to later.By appealing to their strengths you expose their weakness---don't want to be shown up by the boys/girls------they usually will op for the next to the best equipment possible..sometimes....... be sure to reassure them that everybody has had trouble with baitcasters before and show them how to practice with it, and learn to become proficient with their tackle (they will return if you do it right).....See if they know what type baits are working best in the area, if not show them what has been catching nice fish.....Show them and explain the different types of hard/soft baits offered by you, and a brief discription and lesson on how to use these.............................remember.................

well, true that Mike, but also, let's not forget to visit our sponsors sites, whether or not we've won a prize from them!

Of course, if you won a prize, by all means go to the sponsors site and send them an email letting them know that you're thankful for their sponsorship of UltimateBass.com and what you think of their product (in a positive manner).

...and if you're looking to purchase new tackle, by all means give a good look to the products and/or services that our Sponsors provide! They support our endeavors, we should support theirs in return.

Mike Cork

You are definately right Fishaholic, when I talk to the site sponsors they tell me they love hearing from everyone :-* ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

So please swing by the sponsors sites and check out all they have to offer and then drop them a quick note to say thank you :-*

DON'T USE FIREFOX FOR THIS SITE!!!  ~xyz

Ok that's my first tip.  I wrote about 3 novels worth of posts and nothing posted!  :'(

Now that I fired up IE I am crossing my fingers.

As I was saying.  If you are fishing clear water and you don't seem to be catching any fish, BACK OFF!  Trust me the bass CAN and WILL see you and get spooked.  Your rod is capable of casting at a decent distance.  Back OFF!!

Here's a tip for the angler that is just starting to get into it and didn't compile equipment yet.  Before you start buying rods and reels find your favorite combo!  Even if you need to borrow someone elses stuff.  Trust me I have tons of different combos but I have my favorites.  And when I go to buy new combos I try to duplicate my favorite combo.

I wish I knew my favorite combo BEFORE I bought all my combos.  ;)
