Chris,

Thanks a lot for posting this information.  We need to spread the word for this little boy, as I am trying to help Ben and his family put this thing together.

Your help is really appreciated!  Here is a picture of little Corben:

Here is an image of the Flyer and Rules for the Tournament:

If you can't read this, go to the below link and look at some pictures I took of Corben & his family, plus you can enlarge these pics by clicking the "Get Original Uploaded Photo" hyperlink below the pic.

Just updating you guys/gals on the prize situation for the tournament.

So far, it is looking great considering EVERYTHING has been donated.  We have gathered around $300-400 for a cash prize, and Yokem Toyota is going to give a bit more cash (which will be picked up tomorrow - not sure how much).  We have some great prizes:  a trolling motor, a depth finder, a recliner, $200 gift cert to Bailey's Jewelers, numerous dinners from places like Outback, El Chico, & Posados, a deer feeder, a pair of Oakley sunglasses, and more.

The first place team can pick from cash or prizes, whichever they like.

Almost forgot, we will raffle some of the prizes - most likely the cruise and an Audubon Trail Golf Pass, which includes FREE GOLF for four (4) at the following courses:

Olde Oaks (Bossier City)
Cypress Bend(Toledo Bend)
Gray Plantation (Lake Charles)
The Island (Plaquemine)
Tamahka Trails (Alexandria)
The Bluff (St. Francisville)

This is literally $500-1000 of golf, according to the donor.

Let me know what you think.  We are really trying to attract people to come fish and have fun!

P.S. - Did I mention that we have promises from Rat L Trap, Gene Larew Lures, and Reaction Lures that they will send prizes?

Special thanks to Derek & Kayla on Classic Country 106.7 FM for all of their help.  If you see this in time, they are having Corben's daddy on the air Wednesday morning around 9:30.  They are also going to MC the weigh in.

Thanks a million!

Thanks Mike!  We have more good news too - Yokem Toyota just donated $550 CASH!!!!

So, we are thinking the best way to do this thing so everyone is happy is have a cash prize for the top 3 teams and raffle off all of the prizes.  Each participant gets one raffle ticket with registration, and they can buy as many as they want.

After the weigh in, cash will be awarded, lunch served, and the raffle will ensue.

How does that sound???

Mike Cork

That is a great deal !!!!!!!

Sounds like a real good show, I am trying to help spread the word out on the base I hope it helps, but right now we are all putting in some long hours and long weekends trying to recover from the war.

What are the raffle tickets going to go for, $1 a peice?

More interesting stuff:  the Hal Sutton Foundation wants to help out AND make Corben one of their poster kids.  This is BIG NEWS.  No telling what they can do to enhance this thing.

I received a box full of Gene Larew Hoo Daddy's and Craws.  Probably going to give them out as handouts.  Also got a couple dozen Rat L Traps.  General Motors donated two Diawa Spincast reels, and 2 fish fryers (not including propane).

These prizes are starting to rack up.

We also need to make it known that you can fish as teams, but the prizes will be awarded for individuals - so each man weighs in his 5 best fish.

Should make for a better experience.

Mike Noble

I heard Gary McCoy talking about the tournament on the radio yesterday.  He was asking for more stuff to be donated and advertising for people to fish.  It sounds like it is going to be one big event.

Gabby,
I work for a management company that owns the Microtel Inn & Suites and the Quality Inn & Suites in Bossier City and we would like to donate a couple of one nite stays at each hotel for the tournament as a prize or raffle item  ;D . If that sounds OK then let me know who I need to send the certificates to and their address so they will have them for the 16th ???

E-mail me

Gabby

Steve,

YGM!  That sounds great!  Thank you guys so very much.  You going fishing tomorrow?  Let me know if you are interested - I am having a hell of a time finding someone to fish with these days!

Gabby

gunter1309

Man you must have it made if you can fish during the week!!!   :D I got one of those 9-5 m-f jobs and only get away on weekends, with every body else I might add.  Hard to fish some of these lakes on the weekend with all the traffic, that is why most clubs fish at night during the summer.  Wish I could go tomorrow.  I just got you e-mail tonight , we had our Blanchard club meeting tonight, I will get with you tomorrow on the address.  been reading some of the posts on the FBB board, sounds like you are a hell of a baseball player ( geezer ball wise  ;D  ;D  ::) )

Let me know the next weekend day you can go and we will try to get together.

talk to ya

Gabby

Steve,

Man, I got one of those jobs too from 8-5.  They suck, but I love to get out right after work and catch the evening bites.  I was thinking of maybe stopping by the river or something.....

As far as baseball goes, I am not nearly as good as Pratt - and am limited to pitching this season (broke my wrist back in late March, had surgery in April).  It feels pretty good, but the doc says it hasn't healed yet.  I still took an at-bat or two, and managed a pretty nice rip.

Fishing is much better for me now!

Gabby

Gabby

Steve,

It was good talking to you this morning.  Look forward to meeting you and more importantly - fishing with you.  I am going to pick your brains about catching bass!

All the best,

Gabby

gunter1309

Gabby,
Picking my brain won't take very long  ;D

It was good talking to you, as soon as things settle down we will get together and catch some fish!!

Let me know about the meeting, I should be able to help out at the tournament that morning to get everyone launched if that is OK ???

See ya

Well, the Campbell family really needs your prayers...just got off the phone with an exhausted daddy, and he didn't have good news.

Corben's new baby brother, Rylan (who was born yesterday afternoon) has a very low platelet count - pretty much meaning that he is also afflicted with Wiskott Aldrich Syndrome.

I can't imagine the pain and fear that this young couple is feeling for their two boys.  Please keep them in your prayers, as this is probably one of their darkest days...

Chris

Gabby , We havent talked to Ben but my wife called from the hospital this morning with the news and I must say it has made for a very sad day .I feel they can make it out of this thing successfully with everyones help and prayers . I am going to make some calls today for cash contributions to try to help. This will be a long road for them but maybe we can make it a little bit easier for them. See you at the tournament next weekend.      Chris

Gabby

Chris,

thanks a million.  People like you and the others on this site, and throughout the city - have made things MUCH easier.  We need all the help we can get by spreading the word or whatever...  We want a big turnout, and we want everyone to have fun.  Our goal is to have some sort of prize for everyone who participates.

Everyone has been great, and your generosity has been a Godsend.  On behalf of the Campbells - I thank you.

Gabby

P.S. - does anyone want to go fishing tonight?  I'm freaking dying here!

Mike V

Me and my parter will be definitly fishing the tournament, it sounds like this will be a lot of fun. I am telling as many people I know that fish to come on out. ;D

The Club will be holding their August meeting, Sunday August 10th at 6:00 pm at the Microtel Inn & Suites

I am taking some of the flyers I printed off of Gabby's website in hopes of interesting a few of our members into participating or maybe even volunteering to help with the festivities.  Looks like it is going to be a success, but every little bit helps.

Just thought I would update anyone interested:

We have decided (LATE!) that this will be a TEAM tournament.  Best 5 fish, and EACH of the first place team members get to pick a prize (including cash), until all the prizes are gone.

We will not be charging those of you who want to fish alone $70, since this news comes so late.  $35 per angler to participate includes food & "appreciation prize."  Also, at this rate, everyone will get at least one prize!

We had 10 register last night :-\, and 5 people coming tonight to register by their word.

Gabby

Mike V

Does anybody know what time they will start registration on Sat. morning at Clarks?

Gabby

Registration will start as soon as you get there!!!!  I will be handling registration, and hope more people will be coming to Academy tonight to sign up.  It is going to be tough to get everyone registered Saturday morning before an approximate 6 am start (safe light) when the launch order will be determined by random picking.

When you register, you will be given a numbered ticket which will be drawn to determine launch order.  It could get hecktic getting everyone signed up and pulling names!
