I have a 2001 NX822 I put a New 2008 merc opti 115 horse on It with a sliding jack plate the boat is rated for a 175 horse but when this boat is in the water and I try to get out of the hole the bottom of the motor up to the cover hold down is under water. I had the motor moved up to the top holes but it still happens and the jack plate only has one setting. CAN ANYONE HELP ME with this problem   :help:

I can not help you with this problem but wanted you to know since your new it may take a day to get a reply. most of the gang are out fishing or spending time with family and week end are slow for getting helping. Just hang on I know one of the  Nitro guy will be glad to offer advice on this matter.

Good luck

It's funny you mention this problem. Last year out at Kissimmee KVD was burying the rear end and took forever to get up on plane. I figured because he was so loaded down with tackle, etc.. Maybe it's inherrant with Nitro's?

I'll be interested to see what kind of replies you get to this post. Be patient, as stated above, most guys are on the water.

How is your hole shot?  Slow, fast, just ok?

My 929 sits level on the water but when I go to get on pad it sinks the back end a bit like you are talking but what I found best was to make sure the motor is tucked under the boat as far as it ca go "trimmed all the way down"  I've seen folks trim down but once the trim comes off the high end and changes sound when it gets to the low piston they think its trimmed down and when taking off the back end of the boat sinks and the front comes way up out of the water.

Not saying that is whats going on just that I've seen it before.

What size prop are you turning?  Are you able to spin up the RPM's ok or is it sluggish?  Lots of things to look at but if you have the trim all the way down and the hole shot is good and have good RPM's and it's just sinking low in the back on take off IMO thats just Nitro.

thanks for the replies I'm running a 21pitch 12 3/4 prop and it is very sluggish any buddy heard of these "smart tabs" for bass boats?

i have a z6 with a 115. it gets out of the real good when the live well is empty. fill it half full and the back sinks so much water comes over the transum into the splash well takes maybe a minute to get up to where i can start triming up. like fogy said may just be nitro. your nx882 is bigger n heavier than mine. my brother has a boat like yours with a 150efi and his sinks pretty good too but does come out fairly quick.

I've never used them or even seen one on a boat, sorry.

However I have used and have seen others use the wale fin that you mount on your lower unit to help gain lift on the hole shot.  They worked well enough for me with my old Nitro 640 with a 75hp force motor and a friend of mine has the 750 with a 125 who still uses the fin, might be something to look into and should be cheaper as well.

I just think that if your boat has a max HP rating of 175 the 115 is just not ever going to give you great performance however with some adjustments in the set up and maybe a fin or maybe going to a prop with vent holes you will see some good improvements.

Never used those on a bass boat, but I had them on my old flats boat.  They did help keep the front end down at low speeds and made a bit of difference in tight turns, but I can't say there was too much improvement in hole shot.  It wasn't a "pad" type hull either so I don't even know if it is a valid comparison?  I run a Opti 115 on my 07 482, and I had to tinker with the prop to get a good setup.  I ended up going with a vented 19" pitch for the better hole shot, and then had some cup added to the blades to get the RPM's down to about the same as a 20 or 21" pitch.  I agree with Fogy:

You have to accept the limitations of less horsepower and tweak it as best you can.  So far for me it's not been a bother.  My top end is only about 51 mph, but I can fish several times on as little as a half tank of gas so the trade off is worth it for me at the gas pump.  More $$$ in the pocket for tackle and  ~beer~ !

Start at the beginning. The engines prop shaft centerline should be about 3 1/2" below the boats plane pad when level. Take a straight edge and check your set up. The 115 Opti weighs a lot less than the 150/175 engine and shouldn't be doing what you say it is, unless the boat is loaded with too much weight behind the drivers seat; 4 batteries, full fuel, full livewells. If you plan to fully load the boat, you will need more HP to get on plane.
