I went to spring lake this afternoon and caught alot of bass before the wind and rain left.  Once the wind and rain quit then it kind of slowed down.  Biggest was only about 3lbs, but probably caught 10 right at the limit and then another 10 right at about 13".  We caught probably 5 dogfish today  lo  Myself being a complete idiot saw one cruising the shallows and decided to drop my vibrashock in front of its face and he ate it instantly...bam set the hook broke the line.  ~rant  Picked up a black and blue jig that I thought was on my flipping stick with 60lb braid(thought no way he'll break that and I'll get my vibrashock back.  Flipped the jig to him, bam set the hook and broke the line again!!!  Now he's kind of torqued off with 2 lures stuck in his lip and I never did catch him.  I guess I learned my lesson about that.  ~rant

I did catch this one though.  not sure how much it weighed since my scale batteries were dead, but I guess him around 7-8lbs.

lo Yeah I know, but it was big so I figured it was worth it.  Worst thing was I didn't have a net or anything.  ;D  I really need to remember to get that back in the darn boat!!  lo

coldfront

just got back from a trip on the river chasing bass...along the way ran into a few toothy critters...personally, as much as I love bass...I enjoyed the pike a lot more...  think of them as 'bonus fish'...

I'd love a chance to get into some bonus 'bowfin' like those.  From all I hear, they're amazing athletes...real tackle testers...  granted, IF in a tournament situation, or tossing expensive lures, they're not necessarily what I'd like to run across...but as to performance on the end of the line?  nothing bad to say...

cool fish...great photo...thanks.

Actually Coldfront we caught 2lb bass that fought harder than that thing. lo  The way there were man handling my buddy I thought he had a 5 pounder on and then it jumped out of the water and its just a little guy.  lo

I don't think they fight all that well either. All they do is spin and bend lures. Are far as a net goes, you don't want one of them in your net, they'll spin and spin antil they are so tangled you'll need to get out and knife to get them out of it  ~rant I use the club to the head trick for a quick release on them  ;)

Nate I am not going fishing with you if you are going to be grabbing those things lo

The best quick release I had with one of those was in Cattail on pool 14.  He had my spinnerbait and I had no pliers.  SO I kicked him in the head and my hook just popped out. :shocking:

Karl is right, don't put them in a net, they make a huge mess of your net, line and lure.  I did that to a guy in a buddy tournament right after he some how hooked my line on his back cast.  I was in the back of the boat and he was in the front.  He said it was my fault ~shade.  I really did not get that and let him know all about it.  We had some bad blood after that ~rant  That was in the first hour.

You don't have to worry about me touching anymore Jeremy.  The thing was big though I could resist a pic.usually I just lean over the side of the boat and grab my bait with a good pliers and rip it out at the side of the boat.  I've never had a problem with them tangling up.  I've got a net that isn't very deep.  Usually I only use it for bass so its not real deep but stretches down when you get a fish in it.
