smokster

this may have been discussed on this site already but im new here and couldnt find any info on them.....

materials:
concrete block
5/8 threaded rod
2" washers
nuts to fit the rod
5 gallon bucket lids

i took some six foot rods and cemented them in a concrete block, put a nut and washer, the lid then washer and nut every 2 1/2 feet up the rod and set them out in my lake. i set out ten of these last year and they hold fish. im making some shorter ones for the shallower water now. i set those six footers in about ten foot of water and my next ones will be in six foot of water.... if anyone has a better idea, please let me know.

Sounds like it would work to me. As long as its cheap and built to last (and of course legal  :))....go for it.

algae grows on the plastic bucket lids really fast and that attracts the bait fish and they in turn bring the mommas around  ~gf

Kewl Idea again if it is legal in your area.  I have a question, just to make sure I understand.  Are you taking the allthread and placing lids at different depths on it?  Just clarifying.

I know this thread is old but i want to comment on it anyways,Smokster building structure is a great way to Allways have that little edge on finding fish, Not being neg at all,, but if i was you i would go back and remove those you placed in 10 foot of water thats to shallow for a 6 foot rod to be sticking up, And remake them using pvc pipe and make sure the top of the pipe is capped, and when you place them back in the water put them in NO LESS than 20foot of water, got to think WHAT IF a skier fell on it, Myself i only use shrub oaks and tree limbs and NEVER place them in less than 20 foot of water. You can also buy a kit called a porcuipine thats a pvc ball that you glue pvc pipes about 36" all over it and use a block on one of the pipes to anchor it to the bottom.
