I would say it would be a good starter combo... I don't know how long you have been fishing but one thing that I wish I would have done when I began fishing is to get the right stuff the first time.

I used to buy cheaper things first and now I am trying to get all the latest rods and reels and I am finding that all of the rods and reels I bought before are so hard to sell. So that leaves me with all the older stuff that costed me a good chunk of change... so I thought. And now I am trying to get rid of them so the wife cant complain too much about ALL the fishing stuff I have.

But like I said its a good starter combo... if it were me I would go with something more reliable.

If you read the specs on the pole its a 5' light action rod. If you are going after Bass you may want to look for something with a medium action, Medium-light at the very least. Also 5' is pretty short, depending on how tall you are you may want to look for something between 6-7'. With a 6-7ft Medium Rod you will be able to cast larger baits more accurately.

I agree with nitroman. You should try and start out with a good setup even if it means saving up some extra money for it. You get what you pay for. You can get a nice rod like a berkely lightning shock series or the new shimano voltaeus anywhere from $40 to $60 and then pair that up with a Abu Garcia Revo S for $120 and have a real great setup.

I also agree with Josh if your targeting bass a Medium Heavy to a Heavy action and a 6'6 to a 7 foot rod will get you casting farther and more accurately

Bassfisherman1994 it depends on what type of fish you are targeting.  For bass a 6'6" to 7" medium heavy action is a good start.
I must agree with Miz54, Joshawa, and Nitroman.  Save up your money and get a good combo $100-180.
It will last you for years and perform much better than a cheaper combo that might break the day you get it.
Try looking for used equipment in the paper, online, or other local ads. You can find real good deals if you don't rush into things.
Some good brands to look for are Abu Garcia, Shimano, Falcon, Fenwick, All-Star, St. Croix, G. Loomis, Diawa, Quantum and Okuma.
I would stay away from Shakespeare and Zebco if you are getting serious.
