I just had a CuradoE7 spooled w/superline and what a mess I never thought was possible. I saw that trick with the turn and thumb on Bill Dance but this nest had to be cut down to the spool. I think I'll try a cheaper line to learn how to cast and if that doesn't work I will have some unused baitcasters for sale. Talk to ya soon.Wish me luck. ~sweat

That tips works, even with braid.  I know sometimes a backlash needs to be cut out but for the most part if a person takes his/her time and doesn't get pissed off you can work them out with your thumb.   ;)

If you are just trying to figure out a baitcaster I would recommend you get some mono line in say 15 lbs or bigger rather than braid and spool it on as tight as you can.  Before you try casting over hand start with pitching or a roll cast.

Last thing, if the curado is grinding and not acting right take it back, no reason giving up on a baitcaster because you are using one that is messed up.   ;)

Do you have your breaks and tenshion set right. I just started fishing a Bait caster last year with 30 lb Power Pro on it and get a few bird nest (most of time because of my fault, not re- checking tenshion from time to time and trying to cast over head  ~b~ ~b~ )but have always been able to get them out.

I am just getting used to using a baitcaster and my first reel was the Revo s and when I would get a backlash I would do the thumb trick and it works 9 out of 10 times. But if I get a really bad one, I dont cut my line. I just cut the bait and pull out all of the knots by hand and pull all the line out till the backlash is gone and then re spool. This way you dont loose expensive line that you just paid good money for. It takes a little longer but you save money and thats more important. Its not like your in a fishing tournament. I would always take an extra min or two and get the knots out. Just my .02 cents

Hi there bigfatsmallys, I just got my Curado 200 E7 on Monday afternoon and this is what I have come up with for the settings. Since you are just starting out, check and see how many of the little plastic brakes are set in the "out" position. Mine had 2 of the 6 brakes out from the factory. If you are getting backlashes all the time pop the side cover open and click 2 more brakes out so there are 4 out and 2 in. That will slow the spool down even more and tighten up the side(spool) tension knob under the drag star until the lure just barely starts to fall when you click the thumb cast button down. Practice throwing a 1/2 ounce lipless crank or a rattle trap, as they are easier to cast, next time you are on the water. With 4 brakes out and the tension knob tightened down you won't get 100 foot casts but you will gain the thumb experience you will need for a baitcast reel. You should be able to start loosening the spool tension knob after 20 or 30 minutes of practice, but don't rush it,  lo Once you get to where you can cast it like that without backlashing you can continue to loosen the side tension knob more and then open the side again and click 1 of the brakes in so you then have 3 out and 3 in. Soon you will have it set where you can cast with 2 brakes out and the side tension knob loosened up more so the bait falls easier and easier and you too shall be making 80-100 foot casts with a 1/2 ounce rattle trap or red eye shad like I am getting now with mine. If you need any  :help: shoot me a message with your # and I'll call you, I have free long distance on my cell# so it wouldn't cost me anything to help you out! ;D

THANK YOU all for the help, after I stripped all the line off the reel is as good as new with no grinding, smooth as a baby's bottom. I think the kid at Dick's put too much line on because when I looked at the spool the line on 1 side wasn't as even as the other side. I believe that you're supposed to see about 1/6th of  the end or the top of the spool. So here's where I'm at, I have all my brakes on and I'm gonna spool some cheap line on and throw a 3/8oz. practice plug and try that.

Having the right amount of line is very important. Also like fogy and Lip mentioned, use large dia. mono to learn and be sure you sent the brake and tension knob. All of these things will help you learn, and you will be wingin' that reel like a pro in no time.

A tip to help pick out them professional over-runs. get a chrochet needle, or find a plastic comb and cut all the teeth out of it except the end ones and use it to pick with. you'll be pickin-n-grinnin in no time!  ;D
