Fish-N-Fool Lures

I fish the Pend Oreille River for both LM and SM bass. The river coming out of the lake is one of the best fishers in the state. It has many LM in the 3 to 6 pound class and a few smallies that will go 4 lbs. The best place for LM are one of the many slews that lead off the main river. Cocalla slew is the one I fish the most. The fish load up under the RR tressel in the spring getting ready to go into the shallow water for the spawn. Fishing just outside the culvert that goes under the road is a prime spot. If anybody else fishes this part of Idaho let me know. I always like to hookup with a fellow bass man.

Great Report Fish-N-Fool! Seems like all it takes in one or two reports in the state to draw others to it. I don't think that we have anyone on the forum from Idaho but we would love to hear about the fishing that you do. I hope you get others to comment on their fishing as well!

Tnx Laurie,
It is really amazing to me that so few of the fisherman in Idaho fish for bass. I would say that only about 10% of all the fishermen actually go out fishing for bass and only about 20% of them are what you would call experienced bass anglers. North Idaho has some great fishing too. I caught more big fish this year then I ever have. I got well over 125 fish over 4 lbs. this year. I owe most of my success to my new sinking stick bait I make.  Here is a few of the fish I got this year,

Those are some nice fish Fish-N-Fool I wish that the fish around here were as consistant as the ones in your photos ;) We get a little one here and big one there and then of course some more little ones. I am not sure why bass fishermen are in short supply up there either but I am sure with your help we can let the ones that do fish know what the conditions are like and the one that are not fishing well I guess tehy will get to see what they have been missing lo

Hey FNF, I used to fish there many times in my youth.  Lived in St. Maries, where the St. joe and the St. maries river join,  most of my family is still in Idaho.  My brother and his family live right there near Pend Oreille.  Probably the most reason people up there don't go for the bass is the blue backs and other game fish.  I remember when........ you'd catch a limit in an hour of blues, and then go for the other game fish.  I've heard its not that great any more.  Brother said he's caught a few lake trout and pike but he never mentions the bass.  Maybe he doesn't want me to know he's catching nice size bass.....which he would do... lo lo

Hey Cal ,
Your brother probably is one of the many guys that just dont know how good the bass fishing is around here.
I never fish for the bluebacks as the are to small to be would my time. I only fish for something that is at least 5 lbs. or more So I fish for Bass , Pike , Muskies, and some times Lakers. Although I still haven't learned how to catch them and I don't get to go enough to learn much.  I could use some  :help: there.  ;D
My 6" Sinking stickbaits have been killer for the bass this year and the 10" ones have worked great on monster LM over 5 lbs. and some nice pike.
I fish one of my 10" baits in that culvert I talked about in the post above and hooked that I think would have came close or broke the state record for LM bass. It broke off my 20lb. florocarbon leader in the rocks. I saw it really well and I think it was a 10+ lb. bass, but all the ones that get away are monsters LOL
Tell your brother to check out my website sometime and look at some of the fish posted there from all over the country.  He could call or email me, I could hook him up on some great bass fishing.

Fishin Fool, you should go ahead and log on. There are a ton of advantages and the board becomes very user friendly, letting you know there are new posts and allowing you to arrange the posts from newest to oldest. Just several cool things. I love reading about the fishing from all over. How cold is the water in your area lakes right now?

Tnx Mike,
I took your advise and joined up. The water is really cold around here as in hard as a rock.   :roll2:
All the lakes are froze over. The river stays pretty much ice free most of the winter though. So if I ever recover from this back surgery I hope to get the boat out on a few nice days and see if I can find any of them cold water monsters that I know are in there.

Welcome aboard, we look forward to hearing more about the fishing in your area and any techniques that work good up there. Hope your recovery goes well and you are back on the water soon.

I would have to say that hard water such as you discribe is a little dificult to launch a boat in :roll2:

Good luck and god speed with your recovery.

Hello Everyone,
I fished the Pend Oreille River and sloughs yesterday and did quite well on both largemouth to 4 lbs and smallies to 3 lbs. Smallies in the main river on rocky shorelines and largemouth back in the slolughs. We also caught enough crappie and perch next to the docks and structure to have a nice fish fry. Crappie jigs for the smaller stuff and plastic worms and rapala floaters jerked for the bass. Water temp was 55+ in the river and up to 60+ in the sloughs. If anyone would like to get together and fish for bass in the Coeur d' Alene or Sandpoint area, drop me a line.

Mike Cork

h20k9 Welcome aboard and thank you for the great indepth report. How deep were you having to fish on the river for those smallies?

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the response. I didn't fish in anything more than 10 feet of water. The bass appeared to be in mostly a pre-spawn type pattern. I also fished Hayden Lake yesterday and caught between 40 and 50 smallies on everything from tube baits to top water stuff, best size was 3.5 lbs. We keyed on the rocky ledges and shorelines.
I also caught three Largemouth all under 2 lbs. Everything appeared to be in a full-spawn type pattern over here. Depths varied throughout.
Another great day.

Mike Cork

That was and awesome day :toot: If you fish Hayden very often we can start a thread for it :-* Good to hear the fishing up north is picking up for folks. Do you fish with a club or circuit?

Yeah it would be great to start a Hayden Lake thread, but there isn't many of us up here on the board yet. I'll continue to post every time I fish and hopefully we can attract some attention? I currently am not with any organization, but am considering joing a local bass club and trying to make my way to the top. Bass fishin with the big boys has always been my dream, lol

Hope all is well with you and yours.

Fish Hard!

John.

Its a little lake, but Round Lake has some nice bass. I go there for trout and have been pulling L.M. bass out. I take my little girl with me and drop just a worm and hook then let it drift. We get more trout and a lot of perch but the last bass was 16".
Gone fishin. Be back tomorrow. Mabey.

Mike Cork

Thanks for the update Scarecrow ~c~ and welcome to the site. Looking forward to seeing more folks from your area :-*
