I'm sure that Mike had another super subject in mind for this weeks contest but something must have come up that is preventing him from posting it.
So as to give our nightowls their normal timeframe to make their posts on the Tuesday contest thread, I'll get this kicked off.

The topic this week is; WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LATE SUMMER/EARLY FALL TECHNIQUES AND LURES, AND WHAT CONDITIONS DO YOU FISH THEM IN, AND AT WHAT BODY OF WATER?

To be considered as a valid post for this contest, all items must be included in your post.  Keep your eyes open for any adjustments to this in case changes are made by Laurie or Mike.  Good luck winning some of the fantastic prizes up for grabs from our sponsors.

Here goes.

Fishing a grass hump in ten foot of water using a 3/4 oz spinnerbait with a #3 colorado blade and #5 willow leaf blade. I cast out ten to fifteen feet beyond the hump and pull the spinnerbait where it just touches the top of the submerged grass. This has been absoultly killer on my favorite home lake Patoka Reservoir "which is located in southern Indiana". Seems to work best with overcast skies, or a light rain just after sun up. I have caught more than 100 3lb plus bass with this technique from August 1st to September 31st.
I will face the fact it is an addiction!
Special thanks to Vicious Fishing It was an awesome year! I hope 2009 is even better!

Here is another that I has probably caught me more keeper fish than any other technique in the late summer / early fall. I take a seven inch worm carolina rigged with a 3/8 oz weight with a two foot leader. I fish it near any laydown or dock I can find. I actually like to pitch the bait in the laydowns and under the docks. This is a good technique in mid-day with some wind or cloud cover. Works on every lake or river I have tried it in. My go to bait on the Ohio River seems like the only way I can catch a fish there :surrender:

I like to use a 5" senko along the outside edges of weedbeds. this is especially good when the lake is dropping due to dryer weather.  I use it in lake charles florida, my home lake
So many lures, so little time.

i will drag a carolina rigged baby brush hog off main lake points on coffeen lake,on a cloudy late summer day, coffeen is in illinois.

I like to throw crankbaits on wind beaten points in the evening at Milford Lake when the shad are big and fat and the smallmouth are chasing them.

Late summer I like to find the first cool 1-2 days of the year and go out and fish all day long.  Lures like a spinnerbait seem to work well along lay downs and docks.

mgd0702

If I can catch the wipers in late summer early fall bustin shad on the surface I like to throw my cavitron buzzbait past the school then work it at different speeds over the surface for some awesome strikes.  Caught a 4 lb smallmouth doing this once.  What a great surprise.

Fishing Crab Orchard in Illinois, find feeding bass using surface activity. Cast a Rattle Trap type bait for schooling fish!

mgd0702

I like to carolina rig a 6" green and white senko off channel edges that come within 30 yards of the bank.  Fish seem to stack up on these areas and this is a good presentation to take bigger fish in early fall.

mgd0702

Theres a flat at Big Hill in Kansas with scattered stumps that you cant see.  I like to take a lipped crannkbait and bounce the bait off these stumps for a reactionary strike.  This is a good way to cover lots of water to find scattered fish works well all year but is deadly in early fall.

Late summer is a great time to stay at work or at home and catch up on work and then head to the lake at dusk and fish the night bite.  This can be awesome on lakes like Table Rock where the water is clear.  I like to use hair style jigs on bluffs for schooling spotted bass.

I fish mid-lake creeks around stumps and logs, using spinnerbaits and shad colored crankbaits in 4 to 10 feet deep water. On Mark Twain Lake in Missouri!

mgd0702

In the fall period in thayer lake I like to burn Rat L Traps around weebbeds to get fish to chase and strike.

mgd0702

In the fall at Milford Lake I like to throw a large white tube weightless and work it in the 1-4 foot of the water column and work it erratically.  This is a different type of presentation that can reward some nice fish.

mgd0702

In late summer or fall I like to find the biggest jig and pig I can get and hit either the points or main lake drop offs at Table Rock.

mgd0702

When fishing Milford lake in Kansas I like to hit the rock piles in late summer/fall when the fish are moving up to feed and throw either a 5" senko weightless or a crankbait to scout for fish in these areas.  Late fall fish seem to stack up on these rocks and make for some great fishing.
