My brother, a buddy and I made it out to Beaver yesterday.  It was the last time I will get it out before baby # shows up any day now.  Since we had the day scheduled and my time is running out I had to go no matter how windy and cold it was.

The plan was to fish for bass while keeping an eye on the fish finder and water to try to find some Stripers and then break out the fly sticks and catch a striper on the fly.

Got to War Eagle put in at 12:00 at fished until dark.  Fished along the river up to point 12 and then went back into the cove off of point 12.  Water temp was about 47 degrees.  We threw lipless crank and shallow cranks in shad, crawdad and firetiger- nothing.

Finally caught and released a keeper black bass in the cove on a jerk bait.  Moved farther back into the cove and in 15 feet of water my buddy caught a very nice hybrid.  We were marking shad on the graph and knew we where in business.  2 of us had the fly sticks and my buddy had his jerk bait.  Soon his drag was screeming and ol' line sides had made an appearance.  We did not have a net (rookie mistake- left it in the truck) and this fish was over 15 lbs easy.  Probably pushing 20.  He had the jerk bait ALL THE WAY  in his mouth.  While trying to lip him with a boca grip the line broke!  Heartbreak hotel!!!  I am pretty sure the like was cut by his teeth since he had swallowed the bait so deep.

All in all it was a cold and miserable day.  But, for some striper fishing rookies it felt good to go out and get on a fish for our first time.  We had done our home work, knew where to go and what techniques to use.  In the back of the coves the water temp was 48.  Need a couple weeks of warm nights and I think the bass will turn it on.

Sounds like fun, wish I would have gotten out!! I was hooking the boat up at 7:30 Sunday and the cold scared me off. :(

When I find those shad stacked like that I try to fish under them to find the blacks, If stippers are killing the shad the big smart largemouth will move in under them sometimes.

Water temp sounds good.

Congrats on finding a few fish, and welcome to the area.

Just a fair warning, be mindful of how much information you put on the internet. It's great that your willing to share information, but you might not want to be quite so specific on exactly where. Trust me, I've found out the hard way that there are people on this board who will not respect the hard work you put in finding fish, and will go back time after time after time and completely thrash your area. A certain someone will even go as far as to tell all his buddies about it, and even have the balls to cut you off on your own spot while your in a tournament.

There is one person on this board who has absolutely ruined one of my best areas, because he's showed it to everyone he knows, and he constantly goes back and pounds the crap out of it.

I've just chalked it up as a lesson learned, and no longer associate with that person, after all, it's a big lake and I have plenty of other spots out there. But, fact of the matter is, that one person has ruined a lot of hard work that I put in, and has left a really bad taste in my mouth about taking other people fishing, which is sad really. I'm just trying to save you the heart ache that I've had to go through.

Just go out there, catch some fish, and have fun. Then, when you report back, be a little more vague, or I'm sure a certain someone will go after the fish that you've found also. ~b~

Just because you think some one messed you over doesn't mean everyone is that way or that you should try and hinder what we do here by preventing good fishing reports.

Maybe as you said one of your spots was trashed, you should work this issue out in person rather than trashing our site.   8)

Sneezy:
Thanks for the heads up but this is not the first forum I have been a member of so I know how it works.  Back in Colorado bass fishing lakes were very few, far between, and usually only a few hundred acres.  So, I know how to give useful info without giving it all up.

I gave some good info in my report: water temp and what lures we used what worked and what did not and the general area we were fishing.  Anything less would have made the report almost meaningless.  After all- if someone just wants a bragging board then they can just go put their picture up at Sportsmans.  It is not like I was putting GPS coordinates out there!  All the places I mentioned are popular spots that almost everyone who read the fishing report in the local paper knows about (that is how I decided to go try that area!)

Welcome aboard bferg_80002.  It's cut throat and tight lips around here huh?  It sux to pull up on one of your trophy spot and there is always a boat on it, the same boat.  All because you took somebody fishin. Thats all sneezy was tryin to say.

Fishing beaver has it's good days and lots and lots of bad ones.  You will either catch'em or you won't.

You have been fishing a real good area and the stripers and hybrids will start schoolin up around there from now till mid april.  The first week of april is the best.  I like to throw a rooster tail through them when they start bustin the top.  Or even a white spinnerbait for the bigger ones.  From piney down to joes creek, its dynamite at dusk.

Have a good one.  Keep the reports coming.

Tight lines.....

::)  gee, I'm soooo sorry for trashing your site.

Read what I wrote Fogy, nobody's "trashing" anything. I saw the guy was new to the board, and tried to give him a "heads up" before he got burned too. He can take at face value, or with a grain of salt, it really makes no difference to me. Apparently he's comfortable with his reports, so that's great, more power to him. I wish him the best.

Any of you guys been in Hickory Creek area the last day or two? Just curious what the water temp is. Thinking about going crappie fishing towards the end of the week.
