Are you guys sure that these lures really work? Cause here is why I'm asking.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well it all starts like this.My dad is 71yrs old.All he wants to do being retired to to go out on the lake and bass fish.I love bass fishing. All I ever used to do was fish some ponds. The lake thing is new.

Anyway,I get all excited cause you know we will have to get a boat.  Well to make a long story short,I start doing my researching and stuff. We buy a brand new 2008 Ranger 188vx,with Lowrance 522c.Than we Head over to BPS and drop over $2,000 on rods reels lures the whole nine yards. We get all set up.Took sonar seminars and everything. We bought the hot spot cards too.

So we head out to the lake.We fish all day. This was in April. Not a bite.Nothing.Well,this went on all damn summer. We have tried every lure every combo we can think of.I brought magazines with me with articles and tried to do what it says in there.Nothing. This went on for 4 months with out even one small bite!

So we decided lets try some other lakes.Same damn thing.Well today 12/19/08 it was 70 out today. So we head to the lake. And guess what? All we did was waste gas!Is this insane or what?6 months and not even a friggin nibble.I'm so mad but laughing at the same time.

All I want is my dad to catch one little bass and he will be sooo happy. You should have seen the look on his face when he thought he got a hit.His face lite right up! It was just a snag.

I have been fishing in Lake greenwood S.C. I was fishing in Lake Hartwell where the 2008 Bassmasters was. Hartwell is down to dirt and grass is growing in spots.Thats why I switched over to Greenwood lake. I don't have anyone to fish with so I'm on my own to learn the most I can.

I'v been using Strike King KVD crank baits, spinner baits, green pumkin gulp worms, buzz baits, and other top water stuff.

I'v been out there at the crack of dawn, afternoon, evening. How is it possible not to catch one tiny little bass.In the ponds you catch them till the cows come home.

So what am I doing wrong?I just totally give up. Do I need to go to a better lake?

Now I'm flat broke. This is my last resort. If they don't work than everything is up for sale!

Thats rough bassburner.  I along with 75% of the fisherman on this site will verify that KARU bait catch fish...PERIOD!!  I leave the ramp in the morning with 2 vibrashocks and 2 Poisontail jigs on and thats about the only 4 rods on my deck.  and I must say I've caught some pretty good fish last year and I know of a few tournaments that have been on fishing KARU baits.

Here is some proof.

They work, do a little search on UB and you'll see plenty of proof.  ;)

Now this has been going on for 8 months!!! ~rant :help:

Ah, this reminds me of some advice I got from an old fisherman after I complained that nothing was biting: son, get yerself some crickets or shiners or some crawfish and you'll get bites.

Also, look up your local bass fishing club. Call 'em, talk with 'em, and fish with 'em. You'll learn that which cannot be learned from books and videos. And they'll be happy to do it. Money isn't always the answer (but it sure helps!).

Bassburner there isn't any such thing as a lure that will catch fish everytime you use it and you don't know me as well as most of the guys and gals that hang out here but they can tell you I'm not a Bassguy and really only started fishing for Bass and trying to catch them on purpose last year and I can tell you I have caught Bass on the vibershocks and poision tail jig. MY PB was caught last March on Lake Fork Texas on a Black and Blue poision tail jig

5 lb 1 oz

This onew was caught up in Wisc on a vibershock

4 lb 5 oz

So yes they do catch Bass in diffrent parts of the country. Like has been said check with the bait shops and local fishermen and even some clubs in your area and see if you can follow them around and get some pointers on how to fish that lake.

Well finally! My dad cought one at Lake Greenwood today on a lipless crank in some underwater timber at 6 feet of water. As for me,nada. LOL Thats ok It's more important to me to see him catch one.He was soooo happy.

In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.

give your dad a pat on the back for hanging in there for me.  not only did he catch a bass, but a very nice one as well!! a solid keeper I'd say 2.5-3 lbs judging by a combo of the 3 views.

Congrats to your dad.  Thats a pretty nice one for the first one.  ~c~  If I were you I would go back to those trees with a soft plastic or jig of somekind and work them over good.

Thanks guys! I just made a pretty big KaRu order. So as soon as I get them I'll head back to that streach of water and work those vibrshocks through every limb. Hopfully I can pull a few out myself this time.

How do you get the vibra spins to run deeper. They seem to just run just below the water.Even if I let it hit botton it will run straight to the top and out of the strike zone to quick.I'm trying to get it to run deeper and stay deeper to run through the weeds and brush piles.Any ideas?

Bend the wire where it comes out of the head upwards, towards the hook, just a little and you'll be able to run it deeper. You may need to slow down your retrieve also, these were made to be slow rolled. You can also keep your rod tip low in order to achieve a deeper/faster retrieve  ;)

Bassburner15

I knew there was some trick. So the more I bend it the deeper it will run?

NOOOO  lo Bend just a little at a time, if you go to far you'll kill the action.....

Bassburner15

I bent it a little and it did run a little deeper.I fished a tournament this past weekend.I was using a KaRu vibraspin but couldn't get them to bite it.Tried a vibra shack and same thing.I just don't have any luck with them.I had to go to back to my other spinner baits to get them in the boat. ???

There is a time and place.  Karl and I are both avid shock throwers and its basically my confidence bait all year long.  But I remember a time last year for about a week or 2 when they just would not hit a shock or vibraspin and neither of us could catch much on them.  Keep with it, alot of it has to do with the time of year and having confidence in the bait.  I can catch a fish on a vibrashock almost all year long, but sometimes it takes awhile to figure out what they want.  Early in the year I have my best luck letting it sink to the bottom and realing it just fast enough to make the blade work while keeping contact with the bottom the whole time.

The Vibraspin has to be slow rolled to keep it down.

Bassburner15

I had it going just fast enough to get it to spin.Oh beleive me I'm not giving up on them at all.

I used the KaRu football jig this weekend in my tourney but the fish were just swatting at lures so I didnt connect on any but there will be plenty more times this year.

I remember that time very well  lo Thats when I came up with the cotton candy dream  ;D They nailed that on a double gold willow blade 1/4oz spinnerbait but wouldn't take it on either KaRu. Gold was the key those 2 weeks  ;)
When the shock bite is on its a beautifull thing  lo Its not a catch all lure all the time but it has been good to me  ;)  ~gf
