NX750 battery install??

Hey Guys,

I have an 04 NX740sc with a 125 ELPTO merc and a 71pd 24 volt motorguide.

Since I imported the boat here to Australia, I have changed the battery set-up from 12v (as it came with the 46lb trolling motor) to a 24v set-up. I also installed a new cranking battery ( )

As I understand all of the boats accessories run from the main kicker battery, however I constantly run into low voltage when fishing and running accessoresi such as the live-well pumps. I have never flattened the battery, however the volts are low enough for concern.

The motor has a 18amp alternator but quite often I only run the boat for a max of half hour when fishing for the day.

Is there anything I can do to stop the kicker battery going flat. would a voltage sensitive relay (VSR) help?

Also worth noting that the trolling motor batteries are 120amp/h lead acids attached to a minn kota mk210 on board charger. These have never had any trouble..

Logically a 3 bank charger ould solve my problems would it not?

A 3 bank charger would definitely help but migh not completely solve your problem. If you get a good dual purpose battery for your starting battery it will alleviate a lot of your problems. Combine the two and problems solved.

A battery designed just for starting will discharge at a higher rate when used all day. A dual purpose will hold a charge longer because of the bigger plates. Several folks on here use deep cycle batteries as their starting battery also.

I do, and will never go back to a normal cranking battery.  Down here in the heat I run the live wells all day, we also doa good bit of night fishing in the summer so than you have live wells and the running lights on for 7 to 8 hours of fishing.

Just letting all know, I have changed the house or cranking battery to a deepcycle/crank hybrib and the problems are alleviated. However with only an 18amp alternator and short running times when I fish, I wll still need to charge the house battery every now and then.

I will sell off my minn kota twin bank charger, and look for a 3 bank charger here in Oz,

Thanks for all the advice, next a cd/mp3 player, then hot foot and wheel mounted trim, then maybe a JP. I'll keep ya posted...

Cool, I have to do the same thing,,,,,, charge my cranking battery from time to time but the deep cycle sure is great to have when running the live wells all day

I installed a $30.00 trickle charger from BPS and plug it up when i charge my trolling batterys. Have not had a problem since. It doesn't need to be hooked to a high volt charger since it charges while running. Its only a 2''X2'' box so it fits anywhere and doesn't weigh anything.
