Fish in the mornings and/or evenings, especially on the weekends to avoid the crowds.

Smith

When wading the rivers, be on the lookout for snakes on the banks, especially the rocks.

Smith

Remember that if it is cool in the morning and you start out with a long sleeved shirt but take it off, put on the sunscreen immediately...the same applies with pants and shorts.

Smith

Try to fish during the week if possible to avoid the weekend crowds.

Creel Limit Zero

As with all trips, but especially with extreme weather, always leave a float plan with a friend or relative.  Let them know where you are going and the times, and call them when you are back home.

Smith

Eat a good breakfast...it will have time to settle on your trip to the water and it will keep you going through the hot days when you don't feel like eating anything heavy.

Smith

Take along granola bars and cereal bars.  Even when it is hot and you don't feel like eating, you can grab one of these to keep your energy up.

When fishing on hot days I wear my SOSpenders the entire time on the water.  I have known guys that passed out from the heat but luckily did not go into the water.  I do not want to be a drowning statistic!

Summer weather means bugs, so we take our mosquito repellant thermocell. nothing worse than slapping your self silly when trying to reel in the big one.

I take high protein food bars on the boat to eat when I start feeling lethargic along with extra water.

Sharon

I also bring some hard candies along even some halls, seems that allergies start when I get out there.

Sharon

in the first aid kit, I take calomine lotion and alchohol swabs in case of insect bites, get fast relief..

OHbassaholic

If you have a mobile phone, take it along so you will be able to call for a ride if you have boat trouble and/or get stuck away from the ramp.  Long walks on super hot days are a no-no especially after sweating in the sun for hours while fishing.

I like keeping a spray bottle in the cooler with water in it. It feels good to spray yourself down while fishing

When im out in the heat i always take me 2 ice chests. One with bottled water and another with a cold ice chest with ice cold rags. The rags feel real good around your neck out in the heat. As foods i always pack something good and cold like a ham snadwhich. I also always make sure i put on some sunscreen to protect my skin. I try planning all of my fishing trips during the cooler part of the days when possible.

I also make sure that i have my rain suit with me. During these hot days storms pop up real quick and can produce alot of rain.

I even wear my floppy hat from my miltary desert days to keep my ears from burning, LOL

One thing i like that helps alot on my boat is a fan that is powered by 12v. I can be in my seat fishing with a little breeze blowing on me.

As a sefety precation for me and the fish I carry lots of ice on board for the livewells and for me.

Gman

Also be sure to take bug spray with you. With all of the heat there is tons of bugs out. Also be sure to pay attention to your surroundings. Snakes are out and in trees i have seen some fall down in boats with people and it hasnt been pretty.

I also try to avoid strenuous activity and direct exposure to the sun, particularly during peak hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m
