I read where some of you guys use nail polish on lures.  Well, from a person who uses this stuff let me give ya a few pointers on which is best to use.

1.Sally Hansen brand last the longest....especially the "Diamond Strength" one.
2.Pure Ice is a good brand...and has great colors
3. Covergirl & Revlon would be next choices.

For an great top coat or sealer...I would recommend Sally Hansen "Hard as Nails"

A rule of thumb for nail polish is.....the cheaper the price, the worse this polish will be.  As in, wont hold up to water & will chip easily.  Store nail polish in area that wont get over apx 78*.  If you use 2 coats of polish, let first coat dry for at least an hour before appling 2nd coat (this will make it harder).

If the nail polish gets thick or clots...add a drop or 2 of nail polish remover to bottle of polish and shake.  It will thin it.

Remember to let nail polish dry for at least 24hrs before using lure.
Nail polishes work on Crank baits when ya want to a stripe or more glitter.

:-*NOTE...it's that time of year for NEW nail polish colors.  Look for them guys...greens, reds, purples, silvers, and gold.  Most have a high glitter content.  Would look great on a lure  ;D

I've used Sally Hansen's for the heads on Salmon Flies, it really makes the black thread shiny.

This is a great way to touch those cranks up when the start getting the paint chewed off.  ~c~

To add a "tip to a tip"  :-*

Using the Hard as Nails nail polish on your favorite jig heads will help them from chipping the paint off as quickly and it makes for a more glossy finish.  Been doing this for years after getting frustrated with the paint coming off my jig heads so quickly.

If you have some older jigs with the paint missing....paint them with some auto touch up paint and after it dries use some of the Hard as Nails to seal the paint and give new life to old jigs.

For fly tiers, the "Hard As Nails" tip has been circulated for many years now. It's great stuff, and for me has replaced regular fly head cements. Anytime the subject comes up on fly tying sites, it's always recommended.  :)

Great tips crash!  ~c~

One precaution about using nail polish, the solvents can be harmful to some types of plastic. Before trying something new, make sure it's compatible with whatever you're coating. Test it if possible. Be a shame to coat a nice Lucky Craft, only to have it melt because the solvent didn't like the plastic!  ~shade

Excellent tip!  I have more nail polish colors than my wife and daughter combined and if you want to take my man card away from me, then you better come loaded, cuz I ain't given it up!

I use Nail Polish and clear coat on jig heads to change the color a bit.

In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.

my wife has been complaining for years about always losing her clear nail polish. one day not thinking i ask her to grab my pliers out of my tackle bag. she walked in with pliers and 4 bottles of nail polish and said "do you care to explain this". i use it on crankbaits mostly especially balsa baits. when the paint starts to chip or you have one of those cast that goes a little longer than planed and bounces off a rock or dock there is nothing better to fix it fast than nail polish. doug

I have used nail polish to paint shakey head jig heads...and it lasts longer than what they used to paint them..even powder coated one...just clear them over with Hard as nails after paint them...they have some great colors to chose from..plus you can mix and create own colors

And I thought I was the only one shopping for nail polish. I use the clear with the sparkley stuff in it and add Spike It chartruse worm dye to get a chartruse color. Couple of coats and a CB is good to go plus it has a garlic scent to cover up the smell of the polish.
Retired and loving every minute of it!

I paint my slip sinkers with nail polish to match the plastic I am throwing. No one sells them in green or blue and with glitter

I'm not sure what the company is called but I have a color that is incredible.  It's called garnet gems, and when you use a black undercoat then put a lacquer on top of it it is incredible!!  its like a really deep black neon.  Black with red flake. I use it on jigs, and topwaters.
