I fished Sunday 10/19/2008 out of the Goldsboro ramp.

Water temp -- 57.4 to start up to 58.7

Water clarity -- Gin clear to only 1' of visability

Water level -- 3.05' at Harrisburg (low level in Goldsboro pool)

I fished from 9:30am to 1:15pm.  The wind was 15mph out of the north with blue bird skies. There were about 20 bass boats that launched from both ramps for a chilly October day.

Fishing was slow as I predicted as I left the house in the am.  Only 2 bass caught, only two strikes while I was there.  Both caught on a shad colored crankbait.  First one in 6' of water, the other in 2.5' of water in the stained water around the upper ramp.

I didn't see anyone else catching fish of any type, but with the weather we had, I am sure it was tough on everyone.

Both fishing and hunting in the past week have been tough.  My exuse is going to be the full moon and the new pressure front.  The water is where it should be at for a good fall bite.  I'd like to get out Friday before the rain hits, but I'm not sure that's going to happen.  We could definitely use a little rain in the river.

anyone have any info for me for the Goldsboro area?  never been there before.  March 29th we  are fishing a tournament there. Any navigation problems witha glass boat?? What will water be by the end of the month? upper 40's? also what is the avg depth of the river down there? any help would be greatly appreciated.

goliac -
The river has been pretty low all winter, it's at 4.77 in Harrisburg right now.  For this time of year it should be at least around 6 ft or 7 ft.  Water temp in Goldsboro could be anywhere from mid 30's to mid 40's F depending what the weather does between now and then.  I think the river is at around 40 F with the warm weather the past few days.

There's a lot of good fishing that you can do with a glass boat in Goldsboro, but be very carefull.  Personally, I would stay south of the PAFBC ramp if I had a glass boat.  If the water is high enough you should be OK in the upper pool with due caution.

thanks Fishhawk.  I was looking at an aerial view that paxpress had given me. there were some pretty treacherous looking places.  Such as down towards the dam.  How far down from the ramp can you go before it gets nasty?

FishHawk

I'm not sure what map you're looking at for Gouldsboro, but south of the ramp (aka between the ramp and the dam) is going to be your safest water.  Guys run wakeboards, waterskis, tubes, and all that stuff in bigger recreation boats south of the PAFBC ramp all summer long.

On the right side going downriver just above the dam and power plant is very rocky.

goliac - I would follow the advice by paxpress, he used to run a glass boat there ... I've always had aluminum to bang around.

Thanks PA. That link was very helpful as you said you can see many rocks from the birds eye view.If you just pretty much run down the middle are you safe??? also another question that popped into my head, are there any largemouth???

paxpress

The middle is safe.  Between Three Mile Island and the other island to the west is safe in the middle.  Between Shelly Island (I believe this is the name of the island to the west of TMI) and the western shore of the river is safe in the middle.

Above all the big islands is shallow as is just above the small islands as well.  the southern tip of all the islands is shallow for only a small ways before it gets deep.  But don't get too close  ;)

There are largemouth in the pool.  But for what I have found over the years, they are only in a few places, depending on the time of year.  None that I have seen went over 5lbs and I only have seen one caught that big.

I would really look at flows before you go out, the susquehanna river is way up and probably muddy from the rain up north.

There is a USGS site for river flows if you know how to read it.

Good luck and good fishing. C-ya on the lake.

yeah I live 100 yards from it up here, and follow it all the way down to Harrisburg on rt 11. I'm good with the levels, yes it's up and muddy but will probably be back to a normal spring pool by the 29th.

forgot to post a report.....

Report for 3/27/09

Water temp- 47-50
Water clarity- 1-2'
Water level- I'm not sure exactly, but it was low just by looking at the bank and seeing the normal pool line

I fished the Pa district here.  My boater and I fished the opposite side of the river, just at the top of 3 mile island and down to the dam on the back side of 3 mile island.  We fished this stretch all day long.  We caught about 13 fish a piece, all coming on tubes.  I caught mine on a 3.5 inch BPS green pumpkin with copper flake, and he caught his on a smaller green pumpkin colored tube that appeared to have reddish and goldish flake.  We caught many fish that were above 16'', and both of us ended up with 1 over the 18'' size limit.  We caught all of our fish in about a 50 yard stretch from the boat ramp to a little painted number 34 on the bank.  The boat was in about 6' casting in towards shore.  We would only catch 2-3 fish per pass, but when we would drift it again we would catch 2 more, etc.  I weighed 1 for 3.58 and he weighed one for 4.05.  The winners weighed upwards of 8.5 lbs with their two fish limits, with just over 9 taking the cake.

By the backside do you mean between the plant and the railroad tracks?  I thought it was tricky getting in there?

paxpress

Zelmo, good to hear from you.

It is tricky if the river is low, like 4' and under.  If it is over 5', it's not much problem getting on the east side of TMI.  You just need to know where to run and run it.  Don't lift off the throttle  ;D

yeah I mean back between the island and the tracks. The fish were on the shore side.  It would have been tricky but definately doable with a glass boat. I got paired with a jet for the tournament.  The glass questions were for when me and my dad went down to practice. We have a glass boat.
