The shimano rep in the tackletour forum said that the Quantum Hot sauce grease has a polishing compound in it that wears the gears down. I don't think this is true. I have had hot sauce in some my shimanos for years and never seen any signs of wear from the grease. JMO

I used Hot Sauce for two years straight on a set of Curado 200B's looking for effects on it. The only thing that I could see (other than the red stain from the dye) was that the worm gear chrome finish wore off showing the brass on both of them. I can not say for sure it was because of the grease. All I can say is that I have used the Super Lube for up to 7 years on other 200B's and have yet to see brass on the worm gears. In the defense of Hot Sauce, one of those reels was my spinnerbait reel and I put a lot of miles on a spinnerbait rod in a season ~shade

This is what they wrote back.I apologize for my mistake I swear I seen it I guess I didn't.

Freaky,

Thanks for taking the time to find out...

My point wasn't to get in an arguement (why I didnt post back), and I have since edited my first post... it was sarcastic and unneccessary ...

My point is simple, we as consumers have power... ALOT of power... how many of us know of corporations that want something as simple as a reel repair not done because an oil you use is not listed in their pamphlet?

To me if it isn't in writing... it is worthless... which is why verbal agreements are not binding in most states...

Sorry to have spun you up... you didn't deserve it, and that was not my intention...
Sorry being sarcastic... I guess I took it badly... I dont even know why...

My apologies...

Mike, what kind of wear did the line guide pawl have on the reel you mentioned in your last post?

Mike Cork

The pawl was fine and the worm gear was fine as well, meaning the teeth were still sharp. Just the worm gear's outer chrome surface was worn to the brass.

I use super lube on spinning reels. It's the smoothest grease I have found for spinning reels. I use Penn grease for baitcasting. Penn is a thicker grease and it seems to stay where you put it. I use Rocket fuel oil for everything that gets oil. Rocket fuel is available in 3 viscosities. The yellow is suitable for most applications. The tournament is super thin and needs frequent application, but it is awsome on spool bearings. The red is thicker and some call it liquid grease. It is good for worm gears or for learning bait casters.
