Takes a special boating permit...but can be a ball to fish...has both spots and largemouth...I got to spend a few hours there this past week...

had a couple of 40 fish days...cloudy/rainy conditions, water clarity about 4 feet.  lots of submergent vegetation (curly pondweed for the most) out to about 10 feet in clumps...

Caught most fish on the first day using a 1/4 ounce Rebel PopR (Clear color) working it pretty hard/fast in the backs of the coves...largemouth came where there was filamentous algae beds...spots came off rocky banks(riprap)

One largemouth off the dam off a tube pushed 20.5 inches...rest were 13-16 inches on the week...

Day two put down the PopR and started tossing a 1/2 oz BPS XPS Pro series buzzbait (chartreuse/gold blade)...constant action during the day until the sun popped out...lots and lots of fun...

Nice lake...some bigger fish in it...potential for a KS state record spotted bass if you're lucky...but most will run small up to 16 inches...

I fished a tournament there two years ago. It poured rain all day but we consistently caught LM and spotted bass on a 5 inch green pumpkin senko. Most fish were dinks but i managed to catch 4 keepers. My boater picked up on my pattern and caught a 20incher on his first cast with a senko. There are definitely some good ones in there.

the state of Kansas now has an agreement with Council Grove...and it just takes a state fishing permit to be on there.

your boat will still need the City sticker however (I'm thinking)

There's a very good chance that lake could produce the next state record Spot...IF the locals can stop using their filet knives....as often and indiscriminantly as they seem to do...
