I noticed another toad on the market yesterday.  It's made by Mann's and has a stiffer front piece.  I don't remember the name of the line of lures but the lizards and worms looked pretty good.  The toads seem a bit skinny to me.  If noone else is aware of these, I'll get the name and post it later.

think your talking about the hard nose bait series.  These are all your favorite plastic bait shapes but with a hardened tip area to keep the bait but sliding down on the hook.
With all of this horney toad talk no one has said anything about color.  I have used white, pumpkinseed, and blue black, all successfully.  What colors are y'all using?
So many lures, so little time.

Yep, that's it.

Sarah caught THIS hawg on a black Horny Toad last August in Florida. We bought 'em when the bait shop owner told us he couldn't keep them on the shelf. Said the locals couldn't stop raving about 'em. I was hesitent, but i'm glad we bought some on his advice. We'd been peckin away at 'em pretty slow up till that point. We really got into 'em then.

In that instance, we were fishing them with an 1/8oz weight, Texas-rigged, with 2 or 3/o G-Locks in about five feet of water. We've done well with them since, more fished shallow or on the surface.

Very nice bass, Sarah!  You folks sure have me wanting to pick up some of these lures.  Guess I'll do that today when I go in to work.

Anyone try 4/0 or 5/0 G-Lock hook? I've also seen these Daiichi fat gap tube hooks.

I've got a boat load of both the Ribbit's and Horney Toad's coming my way for an up-coming tourney. I've purchased the Zoom Toad Toter hooks pictured ealier in the post but have head the frogs tend to tear up quiker with these types of hooks.

V&M also makes a similar product - the Bayou Bullfrog.  The pork fat they cook into them makes them float and they always sit right side up due to weighting of the bait.  I used this bait to place 7th of 150 teams in the annual Department of Defense bass tournament on Lake Eufaula.  Fished it in the thickest vegetation we could find - could hardly troll through the stuff with my Minn Kota 101.  You can work this bait slower than others on top and keep the option of fast retrieve open if you choose.  So many options - so little time on the water.

We caught several decent fish and missed quite a few more at Guntersville over the weekend fishing in thick thick THICK grass mats with chartruce and green pumpkin Buzzfrogs.

We fished them in quite a few other areas, but had the best luck, and best blow ups in the thick grass. The took 10" worms better in the open water.
