Since there hasn't been any posts for a while, I figured I will try to drum up something worthwhile.

So, here it goes:

Where have you been fishing, at what times, how'd you do, what were you using, and what would you like to try?

Fished Viking in April--caught one short on a spinner in the back of a cove.

Fished the Wood's West Osceola tournament on 14 May, and we (not me) boated one short.  On a side note, we did discover that the so-called sportsman in that circuit are quite ...well...rude.  We were working a grassline in a cove and had some yahoo speed past me to set up a block (25yd rule) at the end of the cove...I watched him boat a keeper.  So we left that spot to work the opposing bank when another team came in at top speed (big motor) and set up a block on the bank we were on.  They too, boated a keeper.  Some one tell me if I am wrong, but when you see someone working a stretch of bank, grass, timber etc, you kind of give it to them and move wide to another spot.  Not these folks.  Oh well. Live and learn.

Fished Three Mile on 15 may (wood's tourney) and no-waked all the way to the north shore (where the rock islands are) to topwater the bank, and you guessed it.  Some dude and his partner rocked us at nearly plane to...drop in front of me and sit still.  They did not catch anything! They left and we continued westward, when a boat came in from the other end of the cove.  I pulled out to go wide, and he reached down, upped the speed on his TM and put himself between me and my intended line.  You know what happens too, his backseater hooked a keeper an then he turned back on his original path.  We did manage to get a keeper on 3M, went 2.16 LB.  Oh, it ws 39° with 35 mph gusts!.

So enough of my experience fishing the leapfrog circuit.  I have been on Walnut Creek numerous times with moderate success.  The lake [pond] was really grassy, and the fishing was really few and far between, but in the last three weeks, the grass is almost gone and the fishing has been great.  I am averaging at least one 3LBer every trip with many 15s  yeah yeah, NE has a 21" limit... .  Almost all have been caught on plastics, almost all in the trees or on grass lines.

I know some of you don't like NE fishing, but WC is close, and has plenty of fish in it.  I call it my practice lake.  Just a note... there are lots of folks that fish for little ones there, the bass fisher-people can do pretty good by experimenting a little.  If you want to know what to throw drop me an email.

I fished Wehrspann last weekend.  There is (was?) a ring of grass all the way around that puddle.  it is 10' from th shore.  I buzzed ther entire thing and got carpal tunnel! no bites.  Moved into the standing wood, saw bass everywhere, but didn't get any.  Went into the cove beside the boat dock and caught three shorts on the grass--not the hydilla or the milfoil crap...the reed-like grass.  Quite boring actually.

Enough opining. lets hear from the other Offutteers.

If you were fishing intramurals instead of working you`d know the fish are biting now, LOL :roll2:

Bassthumb

Confucious say:  One must be glad one is able to pay ones bills...I wish I was able to partake of the intramural festivities, I miss it greatly.  Let me go on the record here, I don't miss the AF, just the friends, travel and memories.  I still have my parttime job and can't fish near enough!  So, that is why I am starting a thread to gain that knowledge you Offutteers have.

When I think of an Offutteer, I think of Jerry with Mickey Mouse ears on...LoL lo

You need to talk to medic88 about catching bass at Snyders Bend......

OH WAIT, he didn`t catch any!!!!!!!!!!   NOT EVEN A DINK.....

YOU`D THINK A DINK COULD CATCH A DINK

medic88

Okay Skippy  lo (skipper).  Why can't you fish like that when Gilligan is around?  Does Gilligan keep you up all night??  Spooning?

Lake Murray,

Long sloping rock points are producing with Sammy's and spooks right up until I figured that out now they moved to the grass lines.  I'm sure once I find the hot lines that pattern will change 2.  Finally catching keepers more regular now.  Beautiful lake, but tough to figure.

Lake Wateree.  Fished 3 times and couldn't establish any pattern.  One here one there.  Went yesterday in the rain (I'm talkin rain for 8 hours) and oh yeah mother nature had to throw in a little wind around 10 (sweet)  Good day on the water over all.  Caught a 4 lber on a Rod black buzz, then brought in about a 51/2 lber on an edge buster (love those) , and lost a real good fish, I am guessing around 7 pounds I couldn't turn it and it snapped my line.  Dissappointed, no, it was cool as hell as I watched the LM try to get rid of the spinner bait as it broke water.  Sweet.

Santee Cooper, 0....0.....0.....0 yes I went 4 times and that lake is a mystery.  I know I'm in the right spots as someone caught a 35 lb bag last weekend out of the area I fish.  So really it is a matter getting the right lure in front of their face.  A friend I met here has promised to take me too some hot spots on the lake in 2 weeks.  More then I guess.

Meanwhile, I have a 3 day break this weekend and plan on hitting Wateree for 12 a day.

DeanMachine,
I thought I was reading a Kreb's post for a minute, had to check the name.
Broke off a 7 lber, lost a 6 at least.... line broke, bla bla bla

Walnut Creek was like a bowl of chocolate milk last night (6/2/05: 1800-2100).  Lots of bites...no fish.

It does appear that a small tornado must have went through there Wed Night.  In the southern end, most of the brush piles have been completely rearranged--some of the logs that have been there for years are GONE!--as in I couldn't find them anywhere.  Broken tree limbs are hanging in a circular pattern across the area and there is grass hanging in the trees as high as 4 feet!  ('splain that one, Lucy!)  Now before you guys bash me, the one thing I do know is weather (fishing is another story).  Like I said, how in the **** do you get thick dying mats of grass up into the trees?  I am not talking around the stumps, I mean up in the limbs!

OH!  Looks like Dean hasn't started his short-timer calendar yet...does it.

Dean-O, I will call my old Myrtle Beach hunting/fishing partner and see if I can pry some Wateree secrets from him.  (at a low low cost to you, of course...LoL)

The only thing I know about Wateree is one time I was waterskiing in the north, and went to jump in to ski, when I saw a ball of water moccasins [swimming] :o (if that is what a mass of water moccasin hatchlings do in the water) right under the boat.  Needless to say, I didn't get in there!

Are you camping on the Shaw Rec Area?

I think the fairies must have put the grass in the trees...I saw it myself today, and there were a lot of things moved around, i think it was the water.  at some point the other night that lake was about 3 feet or better higher, the foot bridge at the gate was under water if you look at the "stuff" stuck to it.  I do know it rained a good 4-5" on Tuesday night.

6/05/2005:  Fished Viking today, on the water at 6:15 off at 12:00.  I caught 5 and my partner caught one.  All were 10 - 12 inches.  caught three on a white/chartruese Buzz bait, one on a white/black crawfish crank bait, and one on a Yum camo 7.5" curlytail.  Partner caught his on a junebug weightless Senko.  Cloudy, WINDY (not forecast to be) cool.

Water was fairly stained with a good coating of that green crap (pollen--I guess). I saw 70.7 tp 72.8 Degrees.

Good time, bad results.

TRACKER03, the grass was not in every tree, and the grass on the shore was not stained or  showing any high water marks.  I do not discount that more than one small tornadoes blew through there though!  was the grass hanging on the lake side of the bridge or the campground side of the bridge?

Did you catch anything when you went?  We have all these people chiming in on the forums, but no one seems to want to talk about fishing...  I threw a crank bait today for the first time in a long while...caught one with it.  Would have liked to have thrown  it more, but the buzz bait was working early.

Fished Manawa yesterday, 6 a.m to 10:30
Caught 6 bass.  2 over 18".  3 on a buzzbait, those 2 included.  2 on baby brush hawgs, and 1 on a spinnerbait.
5 out of the 6 were over 15", the last was short.  Fished the buzz around docks and shore, the brush hawgs around some laydowns... not too bad for a Manawa outting.

I used to like fishing Viking Bassthumb, nice little lake.

-Bryan-

The grass was on the CG side of the bridge (up-stream).  I did catch one short and my youngest caught one as well, as usual, i think hers was the biggest...she always seems to do that, makes me proud...

Dean-O, My Myrtle Beach connection say at this time of year in Wateree, you will have to fish plastics, and fish them deep.  He says that lake gets way too much pressure, so after the spawn you have to move to 15-25feet on points, and ledges.  Fish worms, fish slow, and you will have success.

At Shaw rec area, he says there are to islands out of the marina.  He says fish the left side of the right island, on the rock point and the ledge.  He says anyone can snag the odd fish, but most are deep now.  also, because the water gets pretty hot, early AM may produce some up in the shallows chasing bait, or late evening on cloudy days.

Bassthumb says buy five more Lucky-Crafts and snag 4 of them just out of reach.  Then tie on a big worm and a big sinker, and find a submerged island/channel and fish it real slow.

Hee hee.

Hi Ya'll,

First my reply back to JAV.  Rod was saying we needed to replace Krebs!!  Never on earth did I think that I would have any similarity lo.

Tornadoes in Nebraska?  ~shade  I just thought it always felt like a tornadoe every time I had to fish a tourney or what not.  Sounds like the real deal though.

I must admit that I am ashamed of the rest of the Omaha group for not ribbin Doug on his exclamation.  You guys sleepin or spoonin each other.  Get on the ball.

As far as Wateree, up until Sunday the water temps were 72-74.  Sunday they peaked out at 85.  Talk about a rapid transition.  Buzz bait bite is back for the machine.  I actually went about 2 weeks without one even tied on.  But latest reports have the Pop-r bite is even better so I'll give that a whirl on Wednesday and Thursday.

BASS thumb: I know what island you're talkin about and I will check that for sure on Wednesday.  Alot of my fish have been coming right in the area of the rec area.  Alot of tourneys go out of there.  Go figure. As far as deep fishin goes.  I have been experimenting with the Carolina rig but all the locals say from now until mid September the bite will be tough aft 10am.

betty and geraldine are doing well last I talked to them.  How is Wilma? Has Betty gotten hitched yet?

Hey Dan-o you out there?  Try posting once in a while buddy.

Visited WC again last nite.  Still muddy, still windy.  Threw only three kinds of plastic in there, rolled a Iowa keeper-sized LMB on the south end around 6:00 PM, and caught a 2 LBer at 8:58 on the NE bank, out of the grass in front of the Slue.  water 77°- 73°.

On another note:  I watched a young couple get into a flat-bottomed john boat, the kind with very shallow sides (looks like a Sam-Pan) in 25+ MPH winds with an infant and no PFDs!!! (at least not on!)  My wife was with me at the time and asked me, if that thing rolls or flips, did the baby have a chance?

Maybe 20 years in the AF has tainted me as over-cautious, but isn't that act just a tad dangerous (albeit stupid)?(

Since DNR only shows up out there on Holidays to do courtesy inspections (and license checks--but that is another story) --I doubt the baby had a chance, nor mama, and I even bet papa...)

Stupid ass people with a kid in the boat and no life jacket. About as stupid as Javolin 409 today fishing on Manawa with lightning and hail flying everywhere. I put in this morning about 0515 and fished for a little over an hour when I saw them dark clouds coming. I got my boat on the trailer just before it hit. Took one hail dent on my roof. Caught one dink before it all hit and that was it. As you can tell I`m home now staying off the water for the morning. Hope javolin stays safe out there

Javelin 409

Settle down Skipper...
That storm blew over right after you left... you should have stayed, the fish turned on!   Caught 15 bass.  1 that was 21" and 3 over 18"
not to mention the 14",15" and 16 inchers.
I took pics of those and of Kreb's 21 incher as well.

you know how these old guys get when the weather turns bad..  The wind comes up and they think they are going to loose the rest of their hair...
