Last fall I bought a 1998 Skeeter with a Yamaha Vmax 150 TRP ( Twin Rotation Prop).   I am wondering how the TRP Stats compare to a regular Yamaha 150?

Anyone out there know where I can find Comparison info?  I already searched Yamaha's site and don't see any such thing there.

Thanks in advance.

The 150 and 150TRP are basically the same engines with a different gearcase.  The 150TRP does push the 10% rule, though, and puts out about as much as the 175 Yamaha.  Throw a 2.0:1 gearcase on it, and it'll be a regular 150 with some guts....or a 1.86 gearcase and it's the same as the 175.

Fshnbuddy01,

I have a 1999 Skeeter 185c with (TRP).  It is supposed to have better hole shot, top end speed, and better fuel economy.  My only concern is that I have 2 props to replace if I damage them.

Thanks for your comments.  I found some additional helpful info on the web.  Some of this was from Duoprop website.  Duoprop is a TRP sterndrive manufacturer.  Not sure if sterndrive info is comparable to outboard info or not but here is what I found.

The counter rotating twin propellers eliminates the lateral forces existing in conventional single props.  That means the engines energy and power is concentrated on driving the boat forward - not sideways.

Provides up to 30% faster acceleration and produces top speed 5% faster than any conventional single prop system - without increasing the fuel consumption.  At partial load one can expect between 10 and 12% lower fuel consumption.

Better grip in the water gets up on plane faster and can stay there at lower revs.

Keeps grip on the water even when making sharp turns at high speeds.  Also reduces the boats tendency to roll.

Provides lower vibration and noise levels due to the fact that the shock pulses are distributed over more blades.
