So I have been searching the forums, checking out the knot how-to's and reading all the opinions ~str

Seems for Braid, Palomar and Trilene are the go-to knots.

I am finding the postings seem to favor one or the other depending on what the angler A) learned as a kid or B) just likes to tie better.

I have always used the Trilene knot with mono but am about to spool up Power Pro braid for the 1st time.

Is there an instance, i.e. type of lure, fishing conditions etc. where one knot out performs the other or does it boil down to what I feel like tying?

Thanks,
Dave

The only time I've used a different knot other than my go-to palomar, is when I am using a bait with a lot of side to side action (i.e. spooks, jerkbaits, crankbaits, etc.). When using these baits I tie a loop knot. Instead of the line being cinched down to the split ring, the loop gives the bait more freedom to do what it's supposed to do. I think In-Fisherman's website has some examples of a few loop knots. ;)

Same here! Palomar until I am using a spook.

Palomar, all the way and if not then a Uni knot, that one is pretty versatile too.

Since I use braid for everything and it's such a limber line, I use Palomar knot for everything.  If it was stiffer I would use the Rapala loop knot for wobble lures.

In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.

Super braids; suggest using the Uni-knot or braid knot. Palomar knot is a good all round knot for mono's and the San Diego knot works well on fluorocarbon line.

I use the palomar knot on most everything too except wobble-baits then I like most everyone else here use the loop knot. Sometimes I'll use a loop knot on jighead type baits also.

I will be different here....

For braid I only use the trilene knot and I have never had a knot failure yet.

For braid over 30lb I tie the trilene knot with the standard 5 turns/wraps. For braids 30lb and below I add an extra turn/wrap when tying the knot.

I only use the palomar knot for dropshotting.

Thanks for the replies. Since I am very comfortable tying the Trilene Knot, I will stick with it. There does not seem to be any indication of failures associated with using this knot with braid.

Thanks again,
Dave
