He broke one of them off at the reel seat and weilded it back together.  Just a thought if someone has an old reel around collecting dust.

Thanks,

My Dad has 3 of them, and thats all he will use.  He swears by those things.  Hope you can find him one.
Doctor says I should stay away from other people.

i might have 1 or 2 lying round let me see when i get home, might have some you can get for parts pretty cheap

They sell them on Ebay all the time as collectors items. The original 300 new in the box are worth a couple hundred dollars! The Mitchell 300 was my first spinning reel that I bought on my own back in the 60's. It was then and still is the best spin fishing reel ever. That's just my opinion but just think how long they have been around and still working like new. I still have two of them and I use them all the time. Mike

I still have and use mine that my uncle bought for me when I was a kid. That was back in about '72. Still hauls in a bass every now and again. I couldn't even begin to count how many fish I've caught on that reel. Still have the original fiberglass Conolon rod that came with it too.
Your dad will be one happy guy if you can find him a decent one for the big day.  ~sun

I bought one new many years ago, and used it for about 20 years. Did have to replece some parts a couple of times. Great reels, I caught fish up to 20 lbs. on it. Flathead. Good luck finding you Dad one.  :)

JB good  :-* I had that already covered though.  Dad has always been there for me and my sisters.  He only has a few vices, this reel would mean alot to him.  Much more than a new one would.  hOWEVER i THINK i WILL BUY A NEW 300XZ I just saw one at wally world and it would go nicly in my collection...LOL ~sun

Thanks everyone for ther input I am looking forward to hearing back from those who might be able to sell to me.

Don't want to hijack but where can one find parts? I have a 300 circa 1988 and the guts need replacing.

My dad still swears by his, also. He has the older one that was made in France and fishes it to this day!
Don't force it...use a bigger hammer

They were and still are a very popular reel. I'm sure there are plenty of them around with the parts you need. I have one that was given to me about 20 years ago and it still fishes like new. Good luck with the search.
