Ellie #1 would fit in the car better but eye've never used one of them kind of Rods so can't say how they would last.

#2 you could use it for Bass but might be a little heavy duty.

Have you check at WalMart sometimes you can get a good Ugly Stick combo for a good price.

Might not be a bad idea to stop by your local bass pro shops or sports and outdoors shop (whatever you have locally - gander mtn, Dick's, etc) and ask them for some advice. For a general purpose bass rod that can fit into a car, I'd probably say a 6'-6" Medium action rod. As Lip said, Ugly sticks aren't a bad choice for a value combo, and Bass Pro has pretty decent stuff too at reasonable prices...

Lipripper

Ellie that last one isn't a bad deal an Ugly Stick rod and for the price it should fit your needs till you have the money for an upgrade  ;D

Lip is right Ellie he knows fine rods to choose. I've got biten by the Shakespeare Ugly Stick rods for years and bought my second one for kitties only. I'm sticking to BPS online they seem to have better prices on all their fishing tackle etc.

I say without a doubt go with a 6'6 or 7Ft Medium Heavy Rod with a flexible tip.
Good Luck!

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, I resemble that remark!  ~roflmao
Although now Jan wants me to trade the rebel flag for a Texas one.

Ellie, that is a fine setup you have there, it is a great all around rod. I know you will catch a mess o' fish with it, not just bass.

Dunno where you are from, but you can even use that salt water fishin, just remember to dunk the reel in fresh water after each trip, and learn how and where you need to lube the reel.

I have a few Ugly Sticks which have outlived many reels that I put on em.

Yeah, I'd say you definately will NOT be upset with spending a little more than you originally wanted and getting that setup - should last you a while...

Now, ya gotta show us some  ;PHO) with ~gf on the end of the line!!

Ellie Mae

Ellie, a few times, I ran across at both Wallie's, and Sports Authority, back when I lived in FL. Penn's Captiva or Silverado series combos with a great matching rod less than 80 bucks, and sometimes near 60. Bass pro put em out a couple of times on special also.

I have been very happy with those, the rods are made of the same material as the Ugly Sticks, but seem to be not as floppy. (I got 7 ft. medium heavies). The reels usually run about 80 bucks alone, so it is a very good deal.

For where you are at, that would be the best all around combo set up, they are a little heavier than most of the bass guys around here would like, but not for what you will get into, as a matter of fact they are probably just about the same as what you have. They make for a great all around reel in your neck of the woods.

I have caught 42 in snook, big flounder, a 25 lb cat, and double digit bass on em for sure. I will admit that the cat was a little work.

That might a good next combo investment.  ;)
