Fished Cypress this morning for a few hours.  Caught 3 right at daylight on a spinnerbait (one little fish and 2 that would have weighed...but not much).  Had one slap at a pop-r at about 8:30....and had one worm bite at about 9:30.  And that was it.  Talked to guys in one other boat...they had caught only one on a tube.  There were quite a few boats on the water this morning.

I fished cypress sat. from daylight to 11:00. Caught 5 but only one quality fish and it came off a main lake point on a carolina lizard.  Small fish on floating worms around lilly pads on north end. The fishing pressure was strong.  There were boats fishing all the popular spots.

Railroader

thinking about cypress in the morn.. have to be at work at 1600 let yall know how it went..

Red Ranger

Fished Cypress yesterday.  Caught six, but no real pattern other than most were close to a point.  Caught them on spinner baits, rogue, and plastic jerk baits.

Has any one fished the old road bed yet? Just wondering it there is starting to be any schooling activity?

I did not give the old road bed a try Sunday.  I spent some time on that end and there were NOT any boats even in that area.  On my way to the north end, I did see 2 boats hanging out in deeper water off the duck blind point so I figured that the fish might be schooling there.  On my way back, there were no boats out there but the wind had picked up and that area was pretty choppy.  I made a quick pass down that bank line but no bites.

Fished Cypress from about 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. today.  Caught 8 - worms and spinnerbaits.  Nothing big but 7 of the 8 would have weighed.

Thought it was going to be really great - caught 4 on the first 3 docks I fished.

I fished a team-tournament Saturday on Cypress.  Jay Buie and I took first place with 14.04#'s.  ;D The water temp was 73-75 all day with the North end of the lake muddy and the South was stained.  We stayed on the South end fishing some docks, but mostly flats and points.  Most of the fish we caught were in 5-7 feet of water.  The State Park is where we caught half of our fish including our biggest (3.77#'s).  :D  We didn't get a single bite on soft plastics all day.  ???  I tried Carolina rigs, Texas rigs, worms, tubes, floating worms, and wacky worms, but no strikes.  The big fish came on a Leverage spinnerbait (white and chartruce), but that was the only fish we caught on spinnerbaits all day.  All the rest of the ones we boated were caught on a gold Rat-L-Trap and a black-back/blue-sided/silver belly deep-diving crankbait by Luck Craft.  I almost forgot that we caught one or two off a yellow Lucky Craft crankbait as well.  I used to believe that those expensive baits were no better than the cheaper ones; boy was I wrong!  Jay didn't catch a single thing on crankbaits until he switched to that yellow Lucky Craft.  Now it's true that no two baits sound alike, and it could've just been that the ones we were throwing sounded good to the fish, but the crankbaits themselves ran perfect.  There is no tuning to be done; just open the box and start casting.  And no matter how much crap I banged the crankbait off of, it still ran great.  I didn't buy those baits myself (they were a gift from my wife), but I will surely look into getting some more in the future!  :)

Congrats and thank you very much for sharing the tackle review. I am like you, why would I spend that kind of money on something I am going to beat up on the bottom and most likely hang up. Sounds like it may be worth it though....

fished monday 0700 till 1200 caught only 3 a senko, and creature bait called the beaver lol really..

Mike Cork

Thats pretty bold of a bait company to call a bait the "Sweet Beaver". What a marketing campaign thought it has everyone talking about it.

Fished Cypress today from about 5:00 pm till 7:00. Caught 6. The first fish i caught was barfing up crawfish all over the place. All fish came off the same dock. Top 5 weighed 10.2. One thing i have to ask and this may sound funny, but i have been away from the area for 10 years living in virginia and california. 3 of the fish i caught had the smallest mouths on them i have ever seen. I have caught smallmouth bass in virginia and though these fish did not even resemble the color of the smallmouths i have caught, why were there mouths so small. I mean i could barely get my fingers in their to retrieve my lure. If anyone has any clue let me know.

I fished Cypress yesterday from 2-5 PM and caught three.  The biggest was 3.7#'s  ;D and the other two were about 2 and 1 respectively.  All of the fish were caught near the State Park area on Rat-L-Traps in 4-6 ft of water over some grass.  The water was pretty warm (83 degrees) and stained.

Jason, I have done the majority of my fishing in other states threw out my life and I also know what a true small mouth is. I have seen your situation a couple times and usually it is a well fed largemouth that has a lot of body mass for it's actual lenght. And with your fish feeding on crawdads I can see that as crawdads are pure protien. Just look what protien does to a body builder. Don't know if that is the correct answer but it is my best guess.....

You said you caught them all from the same dock, was it one of the state park docks?

Those fish were probably spot (KentuckySpottedBass) .I think thats what you call them. Just about every lake around here has some. TOledo Bend is full of big spots.

Jason Blackmon

Thanks for the information. No the fish were caught toward the northern end of the lake off a single dock sitting on a point. You are right about the girth of the fish. These fish were footballs no more than 15 inches long, and there bellies were gorged.

Trey

I'm headed to Cypress this morning with Sears.  I'll let y'all know how we do.

I was on the lake from 7 until noon, and I caught three bass and one jack fish.  Two bass were caught on a shallow diving crankbait, baby-bass color.  The other fish was caught using a chrome Rat-L-Trap.  My largest was 2.1 #'s.  The water was very stained and a little muddy with temps in the low 80's.  I caught those fish on points and grass covered flats.

Robbie and I fished Cypress today and caught 10 in a very abbreviated fishing trip we fished from about 4 till 6:30. they really wanted plastics today , we caught most on a lizard and a couple on a wacky worm. color did not seem important, Robbie was throwing watermelon and I was throwing junebug and we both caught 5. some on docks and some in grass.

Trey and Dusty went to Caddo today and although they did not catch a lot they had a couple of big fish including a 7.5 Dusty caught off a single tree in Jeems on a brush hog.
she is now patrolling around in papa's pond!! :P

At the rate you are going papa, the only big fish in La will be in your pond. I think we are going to have to put a slot on your pond soon, say 14 to 24'' just to give the fish a chance.

Man I wish I could find some of those big fish in Caddo, no luck lately.

Did fish Cypress Thursday night from 8pm to 1am. Caught several nice fish with one over 4 all but a couple smaller fish came on a black spinner bait, the others on a top water.

I think what we will do is use my pond to stock Cross this fall after the evening tourny's are over that way next year maybe we can catch some ;D

Man I hope we have that BASSMASTERS CLASSIC TRITON BY THURSDAY :P ALTHOUGH i MAY HAVE TO FISH IN MY SOCK FEET UNTIL YOU PUT AT LEAST ONE SCRATCH ON IT :-*

PAPA 8)

danisfish

Sock feet? You may have to learn to float for a while. I don't think it will be ready for thursday night. They have to get the part to convert my trailer so it will fit in the garage. I can't wait to go and run it. It has been a while since I got excited about buying something. But I really hope I like this boat. I have not even had an opportunity to test drive it. It has the opti max and I have never driven one of them and I have not used a motor guide trolling motor in a while. It has a motor guide pro series, does anyone know anything about them? I thought about taking it off and putting my minn kota back on there, but that just seemed dumb to give up two years of warranty on a new one for a three year old minn kota.

HEY! after sitting on your back deck and hand pumping gas into the motor all the way from Devils elbow to Jeems Bayou just to keep that Johnson running, and with the tournament winning string in the livewell last Sat. you could at least put a swim ring behind the boat so I don't drown  :'( :'( :'( :'(
