Fought the wind today from about noon til 7:15pm. Started out in a spot my father-in-law caught 22 white perch at yesterday on beetlespins. We only caught one & lost one there.

After about an hour of that we went for bass. We ended up catching about 8 small dinks, one about 2 pounds & one that weighed right at 4 pounds. All were caught on a baby brush hawg (Rootbeer Pepper Green) in real shallow water. The only pattern I could put together is that there had to be hyacinth floating around. If not...no fish! Also lost one HUGE white perch on the brush hawg.

Mike Noble

Fished Cypress today with Mike.  We fought the wind and managed about 15 bass and 4 white perch.  Caught everything on white beetlespin and white spinnerbait.  Most of the bass were good quality fish.

Going to Black Bayou tomorrow.

Mike , was the water level considerably higher than before the storm? Were the fish shallow ? Just wondering.... Cypress has never been that kind to me so I need all the helpful info I can get before Sunday.

Mike Cork

Yep the lake was conciderably higher. I would say it was about 6-8 inches higher than full pool. There were several places that you could see water was up into folks yards a bit. We caught fish shallow, but honestly they seemed like they were really roaming. We would cast shallow and get bit once in awhile, but most of the time it was about half way back to the boat.

Fished Cypress today from 1600 til dark, and like Chris said, I wore em out!  I caught around 15 bass, 3 of em were around 4lbs a piece.  I caught several two pounders and a couple of little ones.  It would've been a nice stringer for the tourney coming up. I also wore out the crappie!  Caught around 20 or so with real nice size.  All fish came on a white spinner bait.  Papa, I would tell where and how deep, but I dont want to give a way my secret since I'll be fishing a tourney out there on Sunday.

Mike Cork

Execellent trip, careful though, that evening bite can be a lot different than a morning bite. But I will take a chance and follow you anyway ;) I hope I can keep up ~c~

I learned almost everything I know about Cypress from Mike, but I do have a couple of honey holes that usually produce me a couple of fish.  Hopefully they'll be there on Sunday?

Mike Noble

Fished Cypress today with Mike...only managed about 5 bass and only 3 of them would weigh.  :-\  Saw Papa there this morning and he had about the same luck.

Today was a bit tough but I think it was because there was not wind :o

The bite was very slow for me. I caught 3 early over grass on a trap, then caught 2 pretty good fish about 1:00 "ON A FROG" YEAH :roll2:

Boy we had fun today Mike Noble & I fished a small fruitjar tournament with the TCTC folks & managed 1st place.  We boated 17 or 18 bass total and just kept culling for a total weight of just over 14lbs.  All our fish were shallow or on docks.  Mike put us on a spinner bite until the sun came out then we started working docks with a lizard & just kept upping the weight.  I managed one on a pop-r this morning and then the rest came on terminator spinnerbaits & Pumpkin / Watermelon red & rootbeer lizards we dipped all tails & I used Mega strike fish attractant to get them to hit hard.   Water the last time I looked was 71.1 & was mostly stained where we were fishing.

Fished the same fruit jar tourney today, and managed 7 crappie and one bass that weighed 3.26.  All came on a white spinner bait until it broke in two.  After that I got my butt skunked  :'(.  Congrats to Fogy and Noble!

BIG PAPA

Trey and I caught  5 or 6 on a spinnerbait 1 on a swim bait and about 4 on a rootbeer Senko but we only had 3 keepers. All came shallow from grass or pads.
Had a good time fishing and visiting anyway.
Thanks to Chris for putting on the tourney ~c~

KennyP and me fished the fruitjar also and caught 1 dink, 12 crappie, and 1 catfish. All fish came from the shady wind blown sides of the dock. Lost 1 big bass right beside the boat and 5-6 crappie pulled off. All bites came on a small white spinnerbait or Shassy shad bettlespin. The water was stained and 69-75. Lets do it again soon! Congrats to Fogy and Noble on the win and BA for Big bass.

Me & my wife Michelle fished the fruit jar also. We managed to win Big Bass  ~c~ with 3.63 pounds.

We ran first thing to Rambo's Cove & I started with a small chart/white buzzbait. 10 minutes into fishing I had our big fish. We circled the little pocket on the left 3 or 4 times & caught our 4 weigh fish & a couple of smaller dinks.

The buzz bite stopped when the sun got up good. We caught a couple of smaller fish on rootbeer/pepper/green Baby Brush Hawgs & my wife caught a couple dinks on a rattletrap. We could not get bit on a spinnerbait.  :(

*****Michelle wanted me to make it know that she lost a BIG fish on her trap! We were in the first small cove where we started. She put her back to the bank & casted out into the middle. She thought she had a clump of grass until she got it almost to the boat...then it went the other way. I don't think she ever set the hook. She had a real hard time getting him back up & out from under the boat. The fish came up one more time so we could see it. It was huge! I would say 5-6 pounds. It came off just before she went into the net. I lunged for her after she got off, hit her with the net...but no fish in the net!  :'( Come to find out...it was our money fish!

Laurie and I fished the Cypress Fruit Jar as well and caugth quite a few fish on 1/4 oz, white spinner baits and a bettle spin. Lots of fun and great company ~c~

Fished yesterday from 1700-2000. Water was 73-75 and stained. Caught a couple of small crappie off shallow docks on a white bettle spin with a 2" white shassy shad. Boated 1 small bass and missed 2 more on a watermelon red 6" cyberflex lizard.  >:( I hate using them but was the only lizard i had in that color. They last longer but I miss most of the fish on them. I'm sure i'm doing something wrong but just can't figure it out. Didn't get hit on spinnerbaits or buzzbait.

I went over to Cypress for a little while yesterday as well. Got there about noon and stayed til about 6:00pm . We started out white perchin, it was slow so I had to throw the Carolina rig. Caught 8 fish on a pumpkin lizard with the tail dipped in chartreuse between 4 pm and 6 pm ..They were small. A couple came off Eagles Nest Point and all the rest by Waggoners across from White Oak .All fish were caught in 3-4 ft of water.

Trey

Fished Cypress yesterday morning until noon.  I had one bite at 8 or so on a Horny Toad.  That fish was about 3lbs.  Had a few swirls on the horny toad, but that was it.  I did catch a 2#'er on a white and chartruce spinner way back in a grassy cove.  The wind was just too much to fool with when the bite was slow anyways, so I called it a day.  The water temp was in the low 70's.

Thanks Trey  ~c~

Laurie and I were out there yesterday morning as well, and the wind was brutal. We caught a couple fish in Rambos with a small white spinner bait. Then hit some docks and caught a couple more on the spinnerbait and pitching a worm to the docks. About a dozen in all, Laurie caugth two that were 3 pounds or better but mostly the fish were 13-14 inches. We left about 1030 because the wind was so strong and we didn't feel like fighting it for fun fishing ;)

Red Ranger

Fished Cypress for awhile this afternoon.  Caught 3, two of them were just shy of 3 lbs. and one was a dink.  Caught the two bigger ones on a Sweet Beaver and a white spinner.  The small fish came on a Pop'r.  I tried a rattle trap and buzz bait too, but didn't have any takers.  The locations were just as diverse as the baits - dock, small stick up and a stump.  I was trying to locate structure close to 6+ foot of water.  With the high pressure system after the front, thought the fish might be suspended or hanging out toward the deeper water.

Water temp was low 70's.

Mike Cork

Sounded like a good game plan and with two 3 pounders I think you were right there. The conditions couldn't have been any tougher today for this time of year. Bravo on catching a couple of really good fish ~c~ ~c~
