Father-in-law and I fished Cypress from 1000-1500. We caught 7 in White Oak, 3 good 2-3lbers and a few smaller. We caught them on Baby Brushhogs, rattle traps, and char/spinnerbaits. Had a blast with some good company.

Got out this afternon from 1600- 1845 (just couldn't stand staying in on such a gorgeous day). Water temp was 62-67. Caught two 2lbers and my friend caught one 1.5lb. All came off plastic fished SLOWLY. I hooked a HAWG on a rattle trap right before we came in. She hit it, doubled my rod over then started heading toward the boat right under the trolling motor and started stripping line. Got her out from under the boat and she came up and spit my trap back at me. I thought it might have been that 6lber I released in Jan (same area) but my buddy said it was bigger (I think he was just trying to make me feel worse). But what a fight!

I also heard there is a new lake record....13.6lbs!!

Mike Cork

13.6 on cypress? where did you hear that  :-\

OK, Tim said his son was at the park on a tour when someone came in with this fish. So let's just call it an unofficial record for now. Wish I'd thought about that today when I was up there for the AMXS picnic, I would've asked.

On that note we fished the tournament (scramble) for the picnic 0600-1300. Partner caught 7 and I got one (at least I put HIM on good fish  >:(!). We weighed 9.32 for 1st  ~c~. All but one were caught on a spinnerbait on secondary points and in the lily stems. Got the one from a dock in the back of a cove on  a Brush Hog.

I have heard two seperate reports of 30-40 white perch a day being caught shallow. They seem to have moved up. I plan to try them Saturday afternoon when I get off work.

bassadict69

Hey Bass...What were the water temps when you were there?

BassBUFF

It was around 65 everywhere we went. Saw 67 a couple places. We also caught 2 large crappie, one on a spinnerbait and the other off a baby brush hog. Both were shallow near deeper water. Neighbor went out a week ago today and he had a cooler full. All came on jigs in shallow water.

bassadict69

Went today looking for a shallow white perch bite. Threw several different colors beetle spins & white spinnerbaits. Caught two dink bass. Water was 67-68 degrees.

Mike Cork

BassAddict where did you fish on cypress that water temp is perfect :-\

Started out in the small pocket just past Cypress Inn, worked those boat houses & the brush in the middle of that pocket. Then went back past the launch to some boathouses across from the dam, then fished both pockets across from the launch. It was windy so I was kind of limited with what I was wanting to fish & not fight the wind.

Mike Cork

I've been stuck inside all day and didn't realize the wind was up. But those are some good areas. Did you get up in behind the docks with a beetle spin? and the coves right across from the ramp? Did you work that little pocket you found the stacked up out deeper on?

Man it seems like you should have been all over them  :'(

Fished Cypress today with Mike Cork.  We caught about a dozen bass...largest just under 3 lbs. and about 8 or so sac-a-lait (white perch).  Bass came on pop-r, white spinnerbait, and white beetlespin...and a chartrueuse crappie jig.  Sac-a-lait came on white beetlespin and either a chartruese or smoke crappie jig.

Had a great time...trying Black Bayou tomorrow.

Were the sac-a-lait all keepers, any big ones?

Red Ranger

Fished with Trey today.  We boated five and lost another.  Trey caught the biggest, which was about 2.  Our pattern, was that there was no pattern - other than we caught about half of the fish on docks.  Baits were Sweet Beaver, brush hog, chartreuse spinner bait, shallow crank bait and near catch was on a senko.

Hey Mike, did you catch fish early?  We ran into some other guys who had caught 4, but said all came on a buzz bait early.

Ron Fogelson

Fished Cypress from  1300 to 1900 today boated 4 & lost a big one 5lbs or better.  Two were over 3lbs with the biggest going 3.12 the other 2 were just over 1lbs.  Managed 3 on a white spinner the biggest came on a B/B jig with blue saphire trailer.  The one I lost came on a Pumpkin lizard under a dock.  I don't like fishing this dock because I have never managed to boat a fish off of it.  They all ways get away.  This time she wrapped me around a pole and I fought her for a bit until I got her turned around.  Ran back under the dock & then I pulled her out & she went for deep water past my boat, I tried to flip her in as I still hadn't seen her yet & figured if I could have gotten her turned under the dock she couldn't be that big.  When I lifted the rod to start the flip, her head came out a bit & the line broke!  That's at least the 6th or 7th bass of that dock I've lost.   :'(

Talked to a few folks on the water getting in to the Crappie and some were using minnows, small spinners & one guy was even using a weightless lizard & managed about 10.  Most of the people I saw said they were biting but not much size to them.

Mike Noble

We kept 6 of the sac-a-lait, but there were no big ones.  I think the key is just covering a lot of water.

Went yesterday from 0800-1130 (started having battery problems again). Wasn't fishing hard, just glad to be out. Caught one Crappie, almost 2lbs, on a baby brushhog in the back of a cove in 2ft of water off a dock. Water temp was in the upper 60s.

Ran into Mike & Mike, good seeing you guys.
