Mike Cork

Thanks for the report Korkyg, looks like everyone has something a little different going. I might try and go out on Friday. Kinda depends on the weather as I am going to have to put my boat up for a month I would really rather not do it with wet carpet. If I go out, and you see me definately flag me down or stop by.

Hi all,

Just wanted to jump in and say hello to everyone.  I just joined the Twin Cities club and will be teaming up with Korkyg.  He has a post here all ready I see.  I have been in the area for 6 years now and have fished all of the local lakes, but have not been able to produce anything to speak of.  I am still learning the better places to fish cause I do not take the time to target one lake and learn it well enough before moving on to the next.  Most of my time is spent on Black Bayou/Cypress.  Smaller body of water/easier to learn I guess.  I am looking forward to meeting eveyone on 13 Feb.  Take care and see you on the drink!

Welcome Aboard Bassman! I am sure that you will fit in with the TCTC. Most of the lakes here are not easy to learn. We have been here for 8 years now and just as you get to know them the water is up or down or it is winter time again and things are all different. I think that is part of what makes this place so attractive to bass fishermen.

Got out for a couple hours yesterday afternoon, water temp was 53-55 and clearing, just in time for the next rain. Caught one (2.5lb) in a creek pocket on a brush hog.

Trey- Friday is up to the weather and my father-in-law who'll be in town, we might be out there.

Bassman- welcome to the board and club, looking forward to meeting you and Korky.

Jake

The last three times I've been out on Cypress I met somebody who uses this message board so I figured I might as well start posting a few reports myself.  A couple of weeks ago my brother and I ran into Trey and Country on the lake, yesterday afternoon I'm pretty sure I met Bassbuff while I was buying the sticker for my boat, and today I met Mitch.  It was nice meeting all of yall.  Yesterday afternoon I caught 3 on the south end (2 on a brushhog and 1 on a spinnerbait).  All three were pretty small.  This morning I mainly stayed on the north end and caught 6 between 8:00 and 9:30 on a spinnerbait.  Four of the fish were over 2 lbs and the largest was 3.2 lbs.

Mike Cork

Jake we are glad to have you come aboard. From your report you are doing fairly well out on Cypress. We caught a few fish the other day but nothing close to two pounds. They would have all weighed but not much. Again glad to have you aboard  ~c~

Welcome to the club Bassman! Look forward to meeting you Feb.

Jake, Glad you posted and hope you will post your reports when your not in school.

Well my day was great!!! Started at 0715 and fished the north end with 1 miss and a 10'' on a firetiger spinnerbait with trailer. Moved back to the main lake on the south bank and caught 4 more on docks with the firetiger( 2-11'' and 1-13'' and 1-15'') Moved down to a pocket on the south end of the lake and caught 3-13'' and 1-15'' and a 14'' crappie on a chrome blue back rattle trap 1/2 oz. Then talked alittle with Bassbuff. Left the lake at 1730. Wow what a day.

Mitch- glad we had some time. You had a great day too.

Jake- That was me. Glad you found the board. Now you need to fish some tourneys with us.

Trey

BassBuff,

Man what a nice fish!!! :o  You gotta love that Rat-L-Trap.  Glad to see the water warming up, but I'm wondering how this cold front is going to affect it today.  I can't decide if I want to fish Cypress or Caddo this weekend.  Cypress has been producing lately, but I haven't given Caddo a try in a while and I know there are some hawgs over there.  Congrats again on the toad!!!

Gabby

You want to fish Caddo on Saturday.  And you want to bring Gabby with you.

Jake

After catching a few on Cypress yesterday my brother (brushhog22) and I decided to try it again today.  We were both out of school today and decided to spend the entire day on the lake regardless of how many fish we caught.  From daylight till 2:00 we had only caught 5 small ones and we had no idea that we would eventually end the day with our best day ever on Cypress.  Around 2:00 my brother got it all started by catching a 6 lb 14 oz HAWG on a jig.  After that we both started ripping them on jigs.  When it was all said and done around 5:30 we had put 32 in the boat!! 14 of the fish weighed over two pounds.  Our best 5 were (6.14, 4.01, 3.15, 3.10, 2.15).  We caught most of the fish on the south end and we mostly used jigs, spinnerbaits, and rattle traps to catch um.  Theres no doubt we will never forget what happened today.  I have to go back to Baton Rouge next Monday and may not get to fish any more until spring break but hopefully today will hold me over till then.  Yall try not to catch um all before I get back.

Thanks for the post Jake.  Awesome day.  Just before the front blows thru must have worked well.

If you get to fish in Baton Rouge, post those reports.  I would love to know how the fishing is going down there.

Great job Jake! I should have went back today also. I did do a little fishing at gray lake in front of my house from the bank from 1330-1500. Caught 4 biggest being a 5+ pounder. Caught them on that firetiger spinnerbait and a rat-l-trap. Take care down south and let me know when you come back up this way. We'll meet up and fish cypress again. Till then take care.

Jake,

That's AWESOME!!! :shocking:  Great job putting together a pattern.  The jig is my favorite weapon with the Rat-L-Trap coming in a close second.  Hope you get to do some fishing in Baton Rouge.

OK guys...Ya'll are spending entirely too much time on the lake while the rest of us are stuck at work!  ;D That's ok...I've got a list with everyones name on it...I'll know who to follow on tournament day!  lo 8)

Seriously though...Good job on figuring them out. Sounds like a blast. It'll be interesting to see what this cold front does to them.

brushhog22

hey guys,

Jake and I had a blast yesterday.  I just want to mention to you that the 6lb 14oz fish I caught had a bleeding bait hook in its mouth with red fishing line tied to it, so if any of you guys ever remember missing a huge fish, I got your hook for ya.   lo

Gabby

If I can pull some strings, I will see if I can get tommorrow off (is tomorrow the Friday you have off?).  I would love to fish either one.  Your call.

Give me a ring tonight.

Bassman

;D Looks like there may be a few of us on the lake tomorrow.  I know for sure that Korky and myself will be on Cypress Friday.  If any of you are out there and happen to see a red Blazer boat, swing on by and give us a chat.  We would like to meet some of you.
