I don't know if the letters will help or not, if the carp are already in the lake. Does anyone know what they are doing if anything to deal with the carp problem on Caney Lake?  Maybe we should have a carp tourney on Black Bayou.  I will need some help on how to catch them. I know nothing about them, but count me in. I will  try just about anything once.

A carp tournament sounds like a fun idea! :D

What do you do, strap a piece of Hydrilla on a hook and dance it around the pads?  JK

I fished Cypress Saturday morning from about 0600 to about 1030.  Caught three fish total.  Two about 1.5 Lbs each.   Two fish caught on a black and red worm and one on baby bass popper.  Fished heavy grass areas and muddy water at the north end of the lake at the end of the "no ski" markers.

I received a call this morning concering the dead fish on Black Bayou that we have been talking about. I was assured that the report of carp in Black Bayou was bogus and that they have never be intorduce into the lake.  So it must be LMBV or somthing else. (Added on 9/03/03)  Also talked to a long time friend today (Wed)  that lives on Cypress and knows everything about the two lakes. He has also assured me that the carp information is just a rumor and has no truth to it, and that our resident politician will be working for us in the future to make sure we have more Bass stockings in both lakes.

Fished Cypress on Sunday until about noon.  Only managed 4 - had 2 that were solid 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 pounds each.  Could not get a worm bite.  Caught every fish on a spinnerbait.  The water is pretty low.

Well since we have proved that Cross can be a very good lake at times I am going to give Cypress the name of city sewer.   :o
Managed one pick up in 4 hours today. fished boat houses and the creek with jigs, slab spoon and spinner bait. ???
I did find out where all the ducks are, that lake was full of Mallards.
Hope someone has better luck this weekend than I did today.

Papa, Papa, Papa...now don't go picking on my lake (second to Cross that is).  I will give it a shot on Saturday.  I talked to the Cypress Patrol at the Park today when I went to get my sticker.  They told me that they haven't had any bass reports lately.  One of the deputies went with the wildlife and fisheries guys very recently to do a fish count.  He said that they shocked up large numbers of very healthy and good size bass.  Maybe we will catch some...maybe we need one of those machines to shock them.

Checked out Cypress this morning. Caught three on a jig---no size. All were about 15 to 16 inches. I caught all of them in the first hour and then they shut off.

Just wondering if anyone took a temp reading and what is the current lake level?

I haven't been on the lake yet, but according to the Cypress Patrol guys at the Park - the temp is running in the mid to upper 40's (but that might have been before this most recent cold spell) and the lake is only about 6 to 8 inches low.  It looks like Black Bayou is about 1 1/2 feet low based on the boat dock next to the bridge that I cross everyday, but I haven't seen the water at Cypress.  I would imagine I will be seeing it tomorrow.

Had five bites sunday, first time on the lake, look forward to next sunday..

Mike Cork

Fished Saturday in all the rain and caught several but nothing big. Probably would have weighed around 9 pounds for 5 fish. Mostly on worms......

Congrats to Mike T. and Doug!

Trey and I fished Cypress sun. and found a couple of decent patterns.
Did not catch a lot but enough to give us hope. Worms on shallow banks close to deep water. and a couple of jig fish.

I'm curious to know what baits and patterns were successful for the tourney at cypress on sunday? I fished it on sat. and did not catch a fish. I know that the conditions were a lot tougher on sat but I was still quite impressed with the catches ya'll brought in.

Mike Noble

My partner and I caught our fish on boat dockes in depths from 4 to 6 feet.  We were using jigs and worms.  From that the guys at the weigh in said, most fish were caught on jigs, worms, or tubes on boat docks in depths ranging from 4 to 10 feet.  I believe the jigs were black/blue early and amber or a similar color later in the day.  Maybe some of the other guys will post with better details on their catch.

Good Luck!

Darren, I went out Saturday to check water temps and a few fish. I shook off 3 and boated two Saturday in about 1 hour of fishing time. Went back and caught fish all in 4-5 foot pylons the type of dock really didn't matter as long as the water was there. All my fish came on a watermelon baby brush hog and the bigger fish came on watermelon amber jig. The bite was strong, meening you didn't really have to guess if it was a bite or not. Papa fished some of the same boat docks that I did and he wasn't bit on a black and blue jig so I think the color really did have something to do with it. I took third and big bass. The second place team was fishing black and blut and electric purple but there fish were deeper (10 ft) so I think the less light penetration made the black and blut better. First place was doing pretty much on the same patter I was. Hope this helps.

Fished cypress yesterday and today caught a total of 15 fishing from 10 am to 230 pm or so all good chucks with a 4.75 being best. Most fish coming from 6-10 foot on a jig. Water surface water temps start at 42.8 and climb to 47 both days. I seen RailRoad out there Sunday and he said he caught a 5.25 on a jig in deep water also. Got anything more to add RailRoad?
