Hey Mike, thanks. That is a great idea about papa using scuba gear for finding fish, he can also spend sometime looking for one of his three lost cell phones.

Fished Cypress a couple of days.  Hooked 17 fish total, but only 11 made it to the boat.  Lost a couple of 2+ pound fish.   6 of the fish landed would have weighed with the largest being 2lb 12 oz.  First day caught the fish primarily on grassy points using gold and bone colored rattle traps.  Second day caught the fish primarily on creek channel with a white spinner bait.  The wind was really tought both days.

Mike Cork

When you say grassy points are you talking about hydrilla or the pepper grass with the broad leafs on it? I haven't found much hydrilla on the lake yet, maybe just not looking in the right places....

I'm not an expert on the grass/weed, but I believe it is hydrilla.  Long stringy stuff that comes back with rattle trap or you can feel it with plastics worked on the bottom.

Mike Noble

The hydrilla usually has small leaves up and down the stem.  I don't know what the stringy stuff is, but I have taken plenty of it all lures on Cypress.

Fished Cypress last night in the tournament and could not locate the fish.  Only caught 4 and just one of them would weigh.  Three of the fish were caught before dark on a buzz bait.  Could not get a worm bite.

The surface temperature at 7:00 p.m. was 91 degrees.  That seems too hot for early June.

Fished Cypress yesterday from 4:00 till dark. Managed to only catch one fish on a zara super spook jr.
Had 4 other fish toward the north end of the lake rap me up under the docks. Set the hook on another but i guess the braided knot line slipped. Hey thats fishing. I haven't had a day like this in a while, but when it rains it pours.  ;)

I fished cypress thursday and friday nite from around 8pm to 8am both nites.  Only got a few hits on a black spinner, and a couple on a buzz bait at day lite, but nothing in the boat.  Compares to nothing like the first time I went nite fishing.

If anyones ever needs a fishing partner just let me know!  Still trying to learn the secrets, learned a couple from "Father Time" himself.

Sounds like everyone is having a tough time on Cypress. I'll give it a try this afternoon.

Mike Noble

Fished Cypress from 6 to 11 on Friday night.  Managed to put 5 fish in the boat, all would weigh but 3 were just over 12 inches and came on soft plastic.  Caught 2 after dark on a black spinnerbait - one about 3 pounds and the other about 2 pounds.  Tried several areas that I haven't fished lately....its being tough there.

Me & Shawn fished Cypress Saturday afternoon from 3 til about 8:00. We caught 8 all on soft plastics. One was a carolina rig fish, the rest were on baby brush hogs with a small weight. All were caught in at least 6 feet of water. We each lost one fish that got off before we got to see it.

Mike Cork

Those of you catching fish, seems like day time is better right now for some reason (this hot should be a night bite) any hooo do docks seem to be a key or does it matter?

For me, docks with plastic is producing small fish.  Better fish, what few there are, are coming after dark on a black spinnerbait near docks.

I was wondering if there were any lily pad beds on the north end of the lake on the south side of the bridge. I have not been all the way up the lake lately. Has anyone been catching any fish on the upper end of the lake?

Mike Noble

There are quite a few lily pads and a lot of pepper grass on the north end.  I haven't fished up there much lately.  I did fish some pads last Friday evening without any bites.

 ???
Fished Cypress the last 3 days in a row from about 5 til dark. Water is pretty stained on the north end and the current is rolling through the creek channel north of the bridge
I have caught a total of 2 fish the last 3 days. I have tried crawfish, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jigs(which i still haven't had a strike on in over a month) and can't seem to get nothing. Fished in the pads yesterday evening, had 2 strikes, and missed them both. Bought 2 new reels and didn't have the drag properly set, so when i set the hook, nothing but slippage on the hook set. Thinking about just fishing black bayou in the tournament tonight. Haven't been doing well on cypress, so i think i'll give the other lake a try. See ya'll there.

I fished Cypress yesterday and I caught my first jig fish.  ;D I was using a Terminator 1/2 oz jig (black and blue) with a blue Zoom trailer.  I also had my reel outfitted with braided line, so I could feel even the slightest of strikes. The fish hit in about 6 ft of water off the end of a dock.  When I set the hook, that braided line didn't give an inch.  I broke the reel out of the reel seat!  :o I must have looked mighty funny trying to land a fish with a rod in one hand and a reel in the other!  :D The fished tipped the scales at 2.9 #'s.  Everything worked out in the end; I bought the reel from Bass Pro, so I took it back and they gave me a brand new one.   :) All in all I had a good time and I'll be back on the water tommorrow.

See y'all out there!

I went to Cypress yesterday afternoon.  I started at the State Park area and caught a dink on a wacky worm and then hooked a nice fish on a jig, got her next to the boat where she jumped and threw the hook!  >:( I guesstimate she was 2.5 - 3 #'s.  So then the fun begins.  I leave the protected area of the State Park and venture out amongst the ski boats and jet skis.  EVERYWHERE I went, those inconsiderate retards followed me.  I don't understand why they have to ski right next to my boat (which is next to a dock) when there is an entire lake out there.  I personally cannot effectively fish a jig or soft plastic when the boat is rocking like an offshore bell-bouy.  Have any of you ever seen the little signs on the roads that have a bicycle in the picture and it reads, "share the road" ?  I think that there should be signs on the water that say "share the lake"!  I firmly believe that there are too many idiots with boats that do not know the first thing about boating; there should be a mandatory boating course to get a boating license.  Not all, but far too many of those "pleasure boaters" hit the lake three sheets to the wind and then proceed to booze it up some more while dragging their buddies all over the water.  People that have no or limited knowledge of the water do not understand what their wake does.  Jet skiers think that they aren't on a watercraft, so no wake zones don't apply to them, nor do any of other rules!  My favorite is when someone comes by your boat while you are fishing and they think that they will slow down a little bit to be polite.  WRONG!!! I would rather you go by me at full throttle than slowly make your way by at half plane.  Obviously idle speed is preferred, but definately not with half of your boat under the water making waves that a tug boat would be proud of.  I was on Cypress last month during a tournament when one of our club members broke down on the North end and needed a tow.  While I was uder tow with his vessel, a pleasure boater got curious and wanted to drive by and take a look.  I saw his intentions before he got to me and I tried in vain to wave him off.  Then as he pulls along side, he attempts to be polite by slowing down to half plane!  I grew up on the coast of South Carolina, where my father ran a charter fishing boat and a shrimp boat.  I have a Captain's License with a 100,000 gross tonage rating.  I have read the Coast Guard's Chapman's Manual and taken the test, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt, that in know way shape or form are you to interfere with a vessel under tow.  Out of all watercraft, a tow vessel has the right of way (even over wind powered vessels).  I know what many of you are thinking, "just don't fish when they are out there."  That philosophy only goes one way, down!  I believe that we should all be able to use the water at the same time without disturbing each other.  If you just vacate the lake when they are there, then they don't know that you have a problem with thier actions.  What if they decide to start going to the lake earlier and earlier?  Pretty soon, you won't be able to fish on the weekends at all.  I really think that we should lobby our state lawmakers to make a policy enforcing DUI's on the water and enforcing the "rules of the road" on the water as well as creating some sort of driving course for boaters.  That's just my two cents worth.
