Very spotty. Most fish have been coming from the deeper docks. A few smaller fish have been coming out of the north end on buzz baits in white and chartreuse. After it gets dark try White oak with a black spinnerbait.

Hi,  I'm new to Ultimate Bass.  Just wanted to let yall know that I got two keepers and one dink on a pumpkin seed worm with chartruce tail on Sunday morning.  Also fished yellow/white buzz bait and albino super flukes with no luck on them.  Fish were caught at the north end of the lake in the lilli pads/grass lines near the bridge.

Jeff C, welcome to the forum we are glad to have you. Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself and post your trip. We all will be looking forward to your future posts.

Do you belong to a bass club? We have at least two clubs that post regularly here. How long have you been bass fishing? and what lakes do you like to frequent?

Thanks for the warm welcome.  I like to fish the Red for cats and fish Cross, Cypress, and Bistineau for them bass.  I am not a member of any clubs at this time but I'm interested.  I've been fishing since I was a kid growing up in south Louisiana but have just recently started focusing of bass fishing.

Looking forward to saying hi to you guys out on the water.

Have a great day!

Gabby

Welcome Jeff.  I am new myself, and just started seriously fishing (or so I like to think).  Hope to see you on the water sometime.

Gabby

Glad to have you guys and keep on posting.

I read a signature somewhere on this board that says " Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and you will never see him again !!"

better words were never written.

Fished Cypress Monday night 8/11/03 11 pm till 3 am. My Neighbor and I must have boated close to 20 fish. Seems as if the recent rain has cooled the water temp, and really turned the fish on. Our best five fish were about 17 lbs.  Most fish came on buzzbaits.

Get out he GPS coordinates, not!!!

Are you catching your fish off of docks ( lighted or dark ) or are you in wood or stumps?
How shallow are they comming from and do you catch most of your fish in a short span of time or over the long haul.

Just curious

I fished Cypress on Friday evening and Sunday morning.  Caught 5 fish each trip and only 2 keepers  on each trip.  Fished baby bass popper around points and pumpkin seed worm in the grass.  On the worm the fish came from places where there was a break between the grass and the bank.

Sorry Steve, I haven't been back to the Cypress lake postings  in a while. My neighbor caught most of the fish on the north end of the lake where the channel runs by the pads. That is where the better fish came from. Smaller fish came south around the docks. I plan on going sometime tonight, so I will let you know if they have changed. I would offer you gps coorindates if I had them, but I don't.  I would offer to let you follow, but you couldn't keep up! So I guess you will have to get a kitchen pass and go with me some time, maybe some of your fire will rub off, I could use it.

Monday night I fished Black Bayou. That was a mistake! Fished from 10 pm till 1 am. NEVER HAD A BITE! Water temp was 91, lake was about 3 inches low. There were about fifty dead bass floating around the dam, all of them were three pounds to about six pounds.
Sit Down, shut up, and hold on!

Gabby

50 dead bass????  That is horrible!  Does the heat cause that?  Or what?

Mike Noble

Do you think it is the LMBV?  I don't think that there would be a lack of oxygen since there was the big rain a week ago.  Maybe you should report this to the park office on Cypress.

This really bothers me.  Several things could have caused this mass death of good fish, right?

Heck, someone could have shocked the water and killed everything, right?  Doesn't LMBV become evident with the bass having lesions all over their bodies?

I would really like to know what killed these fish.

bassadict69

Hey fishrman, Did you report the dead fish? If not someone definately needs to. I have lived on and fished Black Bayou since before it was even a lake. It was just a creek.
I have never seen anything like you described on that lake. We have had worse, drier summers than this where the lake has been several feet lower than it is now and never had an oxygen problem.

Now for a stupid question... What is LMBV????

Largemouth bass virus is one of more than 100 naturally occurring viruses that affect fish but not warm-blooded animals. Its origin is unknown, but it is related to a virus found in frogs and other amphibians and nearly identical to a virus isolated in fish imported to the U.S. for the aquarium trade.

Fish infected with Largemouth Bass Virus are safe to handle and eat. The virus is not known to infect any warm-blooded animals, including humans.

Anglers can help prevent the spread of Largemouth Bass Virus and as well as other fish diseases and the spread of exotic species by taking the following steps:

Do not transport live fish and stock them in another waterbody.
Remove any visible plants and animals from your boat, trailer, and other boating equipment before leaving any water body.
Drain water from the motor, live well, bilge and transom wells at the ramp access before leaving any water body.
Dispose of unwanted minnows and leeches on shore. Never release live bait into a water body, or release aquatic animals from one water body into another.
Wash/dry your boat and other boating equipment that normally gets wet to kill exotics/pathogens that were not visible at the boat launch. Recent research has determined that the virus can live for several hours in water, confirming the importance of this practice.
A detailed report on largemouth bass virus is available on the Texas Parks and Wildlife Web site

Most bass infected with LMBV will appear completely normal. In those cases where the virus has triggered disease, however, dying fish will be near the surface and have trouble swimming and remaining upright. That's because LMBV appears to attack the swim bladder, causing bass to lose their equilibrium. Diseased fish might also appear bloated.
Adult bass of two pounds and more seem to be the most susceptible to disease, or at least the most visible
This info was taken from two websites to give everyone a breif overveiw.

It may not be a bad idea to just hold the fruit jar on Cypress only this week until we know what the problem is for sure .The fish from both lakes are weighed in at Cypress and the fish from Black Bayou are released in to Cypress. We definitely dont want to contaminate Cypress .

Gabby

Is that the bona-fide reason in the death of the fish?  It sounds right, and is a real shame if that is the situation.  Maybe someone should bring it to R.A.'s attention and see if he does anything about it.  There are plenty of places where his poor kids could ride their jet skis!

Or we could go in there and catch all the carp and throw them on his dock?

I just typed a nice little letter to the cypress-black bayou lake commission wanting some answers.

Guys, it probably wouldn't hurt if everyone did the same thing.Just maybe to let them know it isn't going unnoticed!
