I would like to get into making skirts for spinnerbaits/jigs to get my foot in the door of lure making as a hobby.  I have some simple questions for you gents with experience.

How much material do you need to make a skirt?
Some companies sell by the ounce, some by the strip, etc.  How many strips from www.fishingskirts.com do you need to make one skirt?

What are the pros and cons for the different materials, silicone, rubber, round rubber etc.?  Which material or site do you prefer for your supplies.

Any unique tricks out there?  Now since I have had the idea to start making skirts I notice possible places for material around the house, usually in my daugthers hair or in her dolls hair.  While she is not looking some of her stuff my start disappearing to the garage.

Thanks for the help.

I prefer silicone over rubber. It won't melt together like rubber will. You'll need 2 tabs (22 Strand Tabs) to make a standard skirt. Try Stamina Inc. or Barlows for skirt material.

HILINE

FISHING SKIRTS has the best prices for tabs, skirt collars, with good shipping rates.he sells a skirt tool for 4 bucks,,best one I have seen. 2 to 2.5 tabs makes 1 skirt

Bountiful Waters

A myriad of color and pattern choices with silicone. I use 2-3 tabs for a skirt.

I perfer the 2.5-3 tabs of silicone per skirt. You can make your own tool with a ball point pen and some petroleum jelly and use it as a starter tool if you are just making enough skirts for yourself.
