This is something me and Janelle came up with a couple of years ago, take some garlic powder or anise, mix it into some petrolium jelly and put it in the microwave for a little, stir it up and make sure it meets the demands of your nose and jar it up. We even made our own new scent with this, Old Bay seasoning.

it works good to stays on a long time. I have used liquid garlic and also added some salt then heat it up

Sounds pretty neat. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for the tip.

Long before there were commercial scents, we would add Anise to Glycerin.  Keeps baits soft and moist and adds a scent.

Nice tips, hell of a lot cheaper than buying the stuff on the market.

Is petroleum jelly safe for the environment?  All I really care about is lubrication.  I'm not a big believer of scents attracting or even masking an odor, but I'd add it as a bonus.

Thanks for the tip. Sounds like a good idea.

Thanks for the tip. Made my first batch last night and it's looking pretty good. I felt a little weird buying a big jar of petroleum jelly though :embarassed: lo. I can see how this stuff will stay on the bait, as it was a pain in the a$$ to get off my hands.
I call this batch Salty Garlic Baitfish. I added some baitfish scent gel I already had, and some red and gold glitter for added flash. ;)

I make my own scent but i seem to be the only one who enjoys it. and it only attracts catfish...

Capt. if you would let us know what you 're using.... That way we can eliminate some of the catty stuff.
