I always say the best day of fishing is when you go out with a few beers in the cooler and you are so busy catching fish, you don't have time to drink them.

~beer~ ~beer~ ~beer~ Best to crack them once your off the water.

I put one beer in the cooler for myself, just to drink to a particularly nice fish (assuming it wasn't caught at 9:30am), or to say, "OK, after this beer, it's time to give up." That way I'm still good to drive home a few hours later. I'm not even sure of my state's open container laws as applies to boats... thanks to this post, I'll have to look it up!

Besides, when I'm fishing, I'm FISHING!  I've gotten used to drinking cold coffee and warm soft drinks while fishing.

Drinking and boating do not mix, just like driving a automobile.  I have nothing a person drinking but it should be done in the proper environment.

Shayne

I rarely ever drink alcohol.  I will not drink (at all)if I'm gonna drive.  I've worked too many crashes where a dwi caused a wreck  PoPo

I've seen a LOT of stuff that was the result of alcohol. I'm 19 so I don't ~beer~ but if I did, I'd keep it away from boats and cars. Those two things and beer don't mix well and trust me, it's not pretty. I don't think I would even drink while I was fishing at all. I want to enjoy every bit of my time out on the water and REMEMBER it lo.

I just turned 21 in December and after that Saturday night I have no urge for alcohol.  I had the most fun i've ever had that night, but have very few memories of it but i know everyone there was smart about it. Everyone stayed at my house and nobody drove home.  I see no reason to drink in a boat out on public water.  There are way too many idiots out there who are sober, we don't need drunk ones.  If you are in your own private pond and sticking around for a while, drink away because you are no danger to anyone else.  The worse thing ever in my book is for someone to die because of an idiot that had too much of a good time and decided to drive.  It's one thing to put your own life in danger, but its a totally different ball game to put someone else's in danger.   So heres to going to the river, camping out by a camp fire and having a good time on dry land   ~beer~ ~beer~ ~beer~ ~beer~

I voted yes, because I will drink a few ~beer~ while fishing, whether it be from the bank or from a boat. Now, I don't fish competetively and I don't have to drink while fishing, but when I'm out in the evening or at night just trolling along with some friends, or drifting/anchored sure I'll have a few. I don't really see much of a difference between being out on the water for 3 hours and having a few drinks and having a ~beer~ or two (or glasses of wine) with dinner.

That's just my opinion though, and like I said when we're doing it is typically when there aren't a ton of other boats on the water and we certainly aren't out running WOT or anything like that either.

There isn't anything better than getting completely annihilated on the lake!

just kiddin.  I dont do that.

lugnut

i quit smoking in december and with that came, quit drinking. the last time i drank i noticed that it hurts a lot more in the mornings than it used to. i'm rapidly approaching 30 and having to make some major life changes ~xyz

I never drink on the water, I wait til I'm at the ramp to get trashed for the drive home! :shocking:

Since I spend most of my time in a Jon Boat with a trolling motor I usually put down a few while fishing. Nothing like a cold beer after a big Fish
Tungsten and Trokars. Going broke one breakoff at a time.

i dont get trashed, and i only realy drink a few beers on the private lakes in my neighborhood

bassamatic

after watchin this post for awhile i think i will increase the insurance on my boat just in case i meet a drinker while on the water. :shocking: :shocking:

I don't even allow my co-anglers to bring booze on my boat.......tournament or not.  Based on some of what I have read here it explains a lot of the stuff I have seen on the water.  New York finally made drinking and driving a boat the same penalty as a DWI/DUI while driving your car.

Plenty of time to drink once you get home where it is safe and there is no danger of hurting someone else.

Kreecher

It's illegal to drink anywhere I fish.  I'm not sure about Lake Michigan although that is the number one area I fish that I have to drive the longest home.

coldfront

same way I tend to ask my friends 'you gonna fish or you gonna talk?'...beers stay on the shore...and only come out when there's no more driving to be done.

Ever heard of a Designated Driver.

whoppy1

ever heard of a designated driver ..  >?  I'm not condoning drinking and driving, i'm just saying most people do it ... next time you goto a bar ..see how many people are not drinking ... not many
just saying ..  not condoning it

I'm not saying that you're condoning it.  Just because you dont see a lot of people not drinking doesn't mean they aren't taking cabs, having someone picking them up, or piling up in the DD's car.  I definitely see where you're coming from, but yes a few people do drink and drive, but a lot of the people there have a plan.

whoppy1

when i was young and stupid i did this silliness, but now, with a new baby, my wife and i when we go out .. one of us drinks and one of u s drives .. saves me more money for senkos

Coonhound

Not to mention the fact that it's dangerous, illegal in the state of Ohio, dangerous, and stupid...

I've just got wayyyyy too much money wrapped up in my rig to even think about risking it. I've seen way too many ugly things on the water tied directly to alcohol. I want to be in complete control of myself if not to keep myself safe that to be able to react to the other asshats on the water.

Now at the house...that's a totally different thing! ;)
