I'm sitting here bored by the way. So I thought I would babble a little. I see different people cussing Cross at times and really wanting some of these tourny's moved from Cross, Here's my take on Cross. I grew up fishing it long before the slot. It was awsome. My dad quit fishing it shortly after it became a slot lake. It just wasn't worth it. As I have gotten older, I have again fallen in love with Cross for a little different reasdon. Thhe main reason is location. Man, it just don't get more convienant for most of us. then there's the scenery. Most of the houses on the lake are beautiful. I've seen gators on the lake, ducks everywhere, Heck, I've even seen eagles. Some of the jet skiers and people on the beg ski boats aint hard to look at. Me and Todd fished one dock for 2 hour without a bite because of the scenery on one dock last year.  :embarassed: Then you got the possibility of a wall hanger. Because of the slot, there's always a chance. As everyone here knows the lake can be a beast. You have to look at it this way, it will make you a better fisherman because you can't have just one technique. Anyway, I was just killing some time.

Same here Beagle...Dad was a member of the American Legion and we would go out to those piers alot...caught my first bass on artificial lure there... :)

We would rent boat at the old Ken's landing and mostly bream and perch fish...when dad brought home that hot 5.5 Johnson we started doing alot of drifting for the cats  then...

I like the lake now for the challenge of it and trying to figure out what the bass want on it....and then guess if that will still work the next day... ~roflmao

It's a challenge and wish there were more tourny's on it other than the TNT....The ABA had one on it a few years ago but then that's been about it since that one other than a club tourny sometimes.....

Should be a whole new game this year as many of the areas of the lake have been sprayed to kill the excess grass..

I like Cross for a few reasons my self.

1.  I've learned how to switch from docks to trees, to grass lines to find the fish.  Now I don't always pick up on it fast enough to help in any given tournament.  I'm a little slow that way, but I'm learning.   lo

2.  It's a hell of a lot closer for me then Caddo and has been nicer to me then Caddo.  I like them both but cross likes me back more.  :)

3.  TNT's  lots of great folks fish those tournaments and for a little $ you have a great chance of a lot of $$

4.  Oh and Paul is right, the sights can be very nice    >:D   just make sure you know how old they are 1st   ~shade

When I first moved up here in January 1995, I had several friends in Baton Rouge that were from up here and they told me to not bother fishing Cross.  We lived in an apartment complex for about a year and a half that was just a couple of minutes from the public ramp so the quickest trip for fishing was Cross.  So I started fishing it.  And it didn't take long to fall in love with it.  It offers all sorts of fishing...docks, grass, trees, seawalls, etc. and can be extremely productive.  It often leaves me scratching my head about what I should have done...but I will take a trip to Cross Lake before anywhere else up here.

Of course, since I live just minutes from Cypress and Black Bayou...it is a long drive now to fish Cross.  lo

Wow, I didn't know anyone else felt this way. Cool. Shreveport politics have screwed alot of things up over the years but hats off to them on what they have done with Cross.

Location...Many of the other lakes are within the same distance or closer than Cross.

Scenery...Big houses & wildlife on many of the other close lakes also! Eagles are on Cypress as well as other lakes also. Want wildlife...you can always go to the zoo  ~shade .Occupants of big ski boats, jet skis, docks, etc...well, there are some to keep your attention on the other lakes also. Heck, go to Cypress & you never have to leave the launch parking lot...just keep your eye on the ramp for pretty things to be riding up the ramp on the sides of the boat!  :shocking: lo

Only one small part in the original post about fish! Hmmm?  :-\ Makes me wonder! Should I carry my binoculars & a camera to Cross...or carry some fishing gear!?  ~roflmao ~roflmao

Sorry Paul...I couldn't resist this thread! I am one of those who HATES Cross  ~rant ~b~

Soooooo, I guess the TNT's are out of the question?  ~roflmao

No problem man. If everyone liked the same lake and everyone fished that one lake, it wouldn't take that lake long to get to the bottom of the list.  :-*

I did actually get an offer to fish them with someone this year & I actually thought about it but since I have school on Thursday nights I can't do it.

I never thought about Cross as a bass fishing lake because I grew up drifting for cats and squirrel point was about as far west as we got.  I didn't know about the west end until I bought my boat almost 2 years ago.  It's 4 miles to Richard Fleming and I'm starting to learn more about the lake and actually catch a few bass now.  I fished the TNT's this year and had a blast.  I often leave the lake frustrated and trying to figure out where the bass went though.
