New line on a reel.

I was reading earlier post trying to catch up on tips I missed before joining and noticed people talking about removing 200 yrds. of line at a time.  I only see the bottom of the spool when the reel is new and then once a year when I do the annual scrub and PM on the reel.  I never use the line thats on the bottom half of the spool, so I don't change it.  I only replace about half of the line each time.  I change line before every tournament and some times between them.  I only need to buy about half the line each year that I did about 10 years ago before a friend asked why I was wasting  so much money replacing line I never use.

I don't change my line all that often but when I do, I only remove half, then refill the spool.....just like you recommend.
