Great tip.  I'll have to remember that.  I'd love to catch a one pound blue gill.......now that's be fun on 4# test line and a Zebco 33.

Capn Ken:  wanted to ask a clarification question on this...

are you fishing the nymph imitator as the 'drop shot' lure?  Or were you putting it above, say, the traditional worm?

And, too, how deep do you fish this down there in Florida?  I'm sort of thinking this will be a great option in about 15-25 foot depths here on timber along channel breaks... ;)

I fish it in addition to the bass lure I am using.  I've caught a bunch of nice bass on it too.

Have you ever used a Flutter spoon on a drop shot rig?  If you haven't, you might be missing a great bet.  The hook set is often a little tricky with a spoon because they don't hang on long.

Sorry I didn't completely answer your question Coldfront.  I fish them from 8-10' down to pretty darn deep.  I fished Lake Louis Smith in Alabama and Percy Priest in Tennessee many years ago and caught big bream and crappie as well as bass.

thanks Cap...

We have a couple of lakes here in the metro that get to 30 feet in spots.  Plenty of places where trees are in deeper (10-20 feet) water...lakes that hold both bluegills and Redears...

thinking that it might be time to move off the shoreline and look deeper...see if I can hang some photogenic specimens... ;)
