When I did it, I had just put in an automatic bilge pump, dropped off the boat, parketd the truck and came back wondering where that stream of water was comin from.
My plug goes in from the outside so I had to wade around to the stern to put it in.
Glad nobody else was around, I might have been imbarrassed.  ~roflmao
I got underway while the pump was still runnin, saw somebody comin down the ramp.  ~roflmao

This one starts with me taking my 4 yr old daughter fishing.  I backed the boat in really close to the dock after prepping the boat.  At this launch you have to back it in a good ways to get the boat floating so I unhooked the front chain holding the baot on the trailer so as not to get the feet wet.  Not having anyone to help hold the rope, I backed in just far enough that I thought I could grab the rope and pull the boat off the trailer.  So I'm standing on the dock and give the rope a good pull and the rope breaks.  Of course with all my weight vector going in the direction of the water - that's where I went - in the water.  Wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't winter in Florida and the water temps in the upper 40s.  I came to the surface gasping and making my way up on dry land.  My 4yr old is laughing at her dad - and asked if she could go swimming too lo  Luckily I had dry clothes in the truck and we were able to spend some quality time together - dad putting crickets on her hook and pulling bream/sunfish off.  She's 5 now and asks me to tell that story when friends are visiting.  It must have mad quite the impression.

I remember a time not too long ago I put my old boat in the water, back the trailer in till it floated free, my boat buddy pulled the rope and tied it along the side of the dock.  Drove to the top of the hill, walked back down and low and behold   :shocking: my boat is sitting rather low in the water.  What the  ~xyz.  Seems I forgot to put the plug in.  Walked back up the hill, panting hard, drove back to hook up the boat, with a tow rope dragged it up the ramp a few feet to let some of the water out and did so several times until we could pick the boat up and drain the excess.  Put the plug back in.  launched again, drove to the top of the hill..again, walked back down the hill..again.  Got in the water actually an hour after we wanted to.  Too pooped to fish for few minutes cause of the hill climbing.  Now I keep the plug in the hole unless ther's water in the hull.

Oh boy...I think I could write a book on this... ;D

But here's one that I witnessed many years ago and was so glad wasn't me..

For those famaliar with Telodo Bend, many years ago  my wife and I and another couple were camping in a tent at Jolly Roger.. Early one morning I'm setting around drinking coffie and about daylignt 3 guys came in and started launching their boat. Don't remember the brand but was a very nice bass rig.

Anyway...they had apparently released the safety latch on the front wench to the boat but had failed to actually unhook the cable from the boat.

During the launch, one guy is backing up the truck, one guy is in the boat, and another is on the ramp as a guide....I guess the plan was to let the boat just float off and when clear the guy on the ramp would signal it was clear of the trailer so he could go park the truck..

Anyhow..as the boat floated off the guy on the landing saw the cable was still attached to the boat which had unrolled as far as it was going to but not enough to let the boat clear the trailer.......He motioned with his hand and hollered, "Wo...Wo....Wo"...

The guy in the truck saw the hand signal and apparently thought the guy was saying, "GO...GO...GO"....so he did...

Drug that boat about 30 feet back up the ramp... half on, half off the back of the trailer.

I really don't know the extent of the damage, but the 3 of them lifted the boat back on the trailer and wenced it back up....then all got back  in the truck and left.....I'd say they had a really bad day... :(

Oh yes...on another note...I learned at an early age not to make a "nature call" with one foot on a stump and the other in a small jon boat....Wet day...  ~roflmao

Yes I did... I wasn't sure if it was a post for the CM area, or docktalk and didn't really realize where I was putting it until I had already done put it there so if it was previously/should be somewhere else, just allow those with the power to move it...

imp Dock Talk is a good place for it cause you don't have to be a charter memebr to make bloopers  ~roflmao ~roflmao

i had been fishing with my boss and as i put the boat on the trailer the tide was out so i had to back farther down the ramp. i was worried about climbing out of the boat and getting wet so i figured i'd jump from the front of the boat to the bed of my truck. (thinking i'm still 18 years old). well i jump and go to put my foot down on the tailgate. as i do my foot slips and i fall landing on the tailgate and breaking two ribs and then falling into the water getting soaked. my boss felt so bad for me he left me alone for about two weeks to try and let my ribs feel better.

here's another one involving my daughter. i was launching my off a very shallow ramp. my daughter who was about 7 at the time said daddy let me hold the rope and i'll pull the boat back in. i thought i'd go slow and let the boat just float off the trailer. i ended up going a little faster than i thought. my daughter was standing on the pier holding the rope and the boat being heavier than her pulled her off the dock and into the water. i was parking the truck and got out to see her in the water swimming back to the ramp and the boat floating off. she was okay just surprised and then i had to swim to get the boat. good thing it was summer.
