IF there are bluegill then there is a forage base for bass. I doubt it's the cats, maybe bullheads but not channels. Yes I know channels will eat anything but they are more scavenagers than the are predator. Bullheads are predators and prefer to eat live forage.

I'd lean more to someone is putting the hurt on the bass.

Ph is a slim posability you'd see other signs of things aren't wright if it was a Ph problem.

Was my #1 answer also.....Doesn't take as long as 1 would think if someone is fishing a "pond" like described not a "lake" to drain it from fish.Specially if that don't practice C.P.R.

Nate

I would go with the pond simply being overpopulated.  The bass' forage is being cut down by the bluegill and catfish.  If it was me I would say time to go to work on the 'gills.  :fishy Boy they taste mighty fine too......
CATCH 'em if you can

I heard that catfish usually eat dead things.

so i finally did a ph test on this pond the other day and it is a little bit under what i needs to be and i think that it is overpopulated i guess the guy who surveyed it screwed up

Sounds like a great oppurtunity for a fish fry.  Get some buddies catch some gills, use some of the gills for Cat bait. and clean out the pond a litle but.  Then fry'em up and enjoy

I don't know if they eat bass, but they sure eat bass lures. Yesterday I caught a 15 pounder on a watermelon/cream laminate Senko and a 12 pounder on a smoke/red flake tube.  No kidding.  Took a picture of the 15 pounder to prove it.

iminsanenutz

you caught catfish on senkos??  realy.. i may try them.

I've also caught them on Yum Dingers, plastic worms, crankbaits, and a 20 lb flathead on a jig-n-pig.

my granddad had a pond of similar sixe and i would put bass in it all the time, but was already stocked with cats and they would not survive, The pond suffered from drought a few years back and only a few cats survived, i kept filling it with bass i caught and now it is a great bass pond.   I think the cats just stire up the bottom alot and has a major effect on everything.  But not sure why, just something i have seen.   My aunt even has two differetn ponds, one for bass and brim and one for cats cause they wouldnt do well together

I have caught cats on many lures even caught two cats so far on 8" swimbaits.

I caught a 8 lb channel cat on my jointed bass colored rapala this past week. I still feel the cats do eat whatever they can catch.

It may have something to do with reproduction - anyone know if cats will feed on roe or affect bedding bass?
