I have always used a polymer knot but I change lures often and end up wasting a lot of line, and its a pain doing a polymer with rat L traps and crank baits. Does anyone know of a jut simple but strong knot that does not waste so much line and is easy to use with large crankbaits?

Andrew

I only use a trilene knot for everything other than drop shots and i use a palomar on that. I've never had a problem with it or lost a lure from a knot failure. Palomar knots are not good to use with a pure fluorocarbon line.

Most of the time I just use the plain old "loop" knot. I just make 6 or 7.

Check out the link in my sing and look at the ezknot tool. It makes tying knots alot easier.

No doubt its Uni-Knot for me. In case Tango you wonder, like it was used on Saddam.

Not ONE fish broke on me with uni-knot in my life!

Yes the uni knot would be great but it looks like it would be a pain in the  :ass with a smaller line like 8lb or so.

Guess your shoe knot would be your last resort LOL.

I used to use nothing but  improved clinch knot but now a days I use something called the No-Knot.

You can tie it with your eyes closed r in the dark.  It is very fast and easy to tie on any lure other then a bare hook.  With a bare hook their just isn't enough weight to help hold the line straight.

1. Take the line and feed it through the lure.
2. Hold the main line draped over your pointer finger with the lure dangling take the tag end and run it over your pointer finger along with the main line.
3. Take the tag end and pull it down past the lure and then wrap it around both lines 5 to 7 times.
4. Take the tag end and push it through the looped end up by your pointer finger.
5. Hold both tag end and main line wet knot and hold on to the lure and pull.

If you messed it up no knot.  If you did it right it is very strong and the line will not cut in on it's self.

Sweet!  Thanks, I've been tying mono and fluro with improved clinch knots but this looks way easier and faster.

the palomar knot is all I've used since I went to Bassmaster U.  Van Dam, Iocanelli, and Grigsby all recommended it.  I used to tie Trilene or improved clinch knots.  With crankbaits and changing baits, have you tried a speed clip?  Tie it with a good palomar and change baits all day.  I don't think the palomar takes that much longer to tie.  its easier to run the tag through twice and hold the loop than to try doubling the line and threading the loop.  also if you pinch the eyelet under the loop after you loop over the lure the loop will stay over the knot and wont twist as much.  If you fish Carolina rigs, you can tie leaders ahead of time and use palomars on all three knots for the strongest connection.  it is harder to get exactly the right leader length though.

Oops  I meant the reverse clinch knot like shown in the video.

JBlack

Do you use that no-knot with braid?  I tried it on braid today and it wanted to slip on me.  Not sure if it was the braid or if I tied it wrong.  I don't think it was the latter since it's a pretty easy knot to figure out.

topcat

That knot will slip when used on braid....threw one of my best jigs into the next county using the Reverse Clinch knot with Braid....the Palomar knot....the Improved Clinch knot or the Uni knot works best on braid for me....I prefere the Palomar knot.....

Probass1440

This is a real good one for braids it doesnt cinch all the way onto the eye therefore it doesnt affect the action of your lure at all check it out here dunno what its called my old boss showed it to me he was religiously a Power Pro user and I use it on Spiderwire Stealth.

I use it on braid all the time but I use a long tag end and wrap it 7 to 9 times.  Then tighten the knot and pull it to the lure and then tie a end knot on the tag and burn it with my smoke to make a bur.  I've never had it slip to the bur but I do that with all braids; have had to many slip in the past before using this knot.

Great knot for braid - no braid on braid rubbing or tension with this knot.  I use palomar or reverse clinch for mono because I find it quicker when tying.
