A friend of mine is fishing the tourney as a nonboater - he just got done fishing the Okeechobee Southern Tour tourney and is stopping off to fish this one as well.  I'm up in the panhandle - thus making guys in my area a little far from the tourney - good luck on Toho.  It's a great fishery.

Conditions on the lake yesterday for the Bassmaster weekend series event were horrible. Wind was strong out of the s-se sustained 15, gusting to as high as 25.

Take off was at 7am and was fishing by 7:05am. Started by using topwaters without so much as a swirl in a spot that usually produces a quick limit. After that it was all downhill. I tried everything but dynamite. Went to some spots in Hatchenaha and Kissimmee without the first hit.

My non-boater partner and I managed no hits and no fish for the day.

Sorry to hear that  Jay but with conditions lik ethat I'm sure ya'll won't the only ones :'( :'(

Sorry to hear that Jay, Hatchenaha usually produces when Kiss is slow, especially in the canals.

The wind and cold front must have shut em up harder than I thought.

Did yall come out of Camp Mack?

You must have been workin the river to start, haven't had much luck in the river itself last couple of times I was there, which is kind of funny; you usually can at least hit a few dinks there if nuthing else.

Saturday at Walk in Water, we saw beds being started ....... although by Sunday they proly went deep for a while again.

Wish it would either get cold and stay there or stay warm for a while so we can get a set pattern started over here.  ~rant

We launched from Lakefront park on the northend of Toho. In my club tourneys I almost always pull a quick limit out of the spot I first went to on the northend by the park. From there I went to the scrape islands near the south end hoping for some early bedding activity, then that is when I shot over to where you mentioned, the residential canals in north Hatchenaha. We beat them up good and with nothing. Then moved to a spot in Kissimmee that ALWAYS produces at least a couple fish... nothing! Finished up the day looking for 12"ers in the docks north of Goblets Cove with no luck.

For safety reasons I only made 1 pass over my offshore spot with no results. Waves were breaking over the boat so I left.

Like you said, get cold and stay cold, or warm up and stay warmed up. geeeeze lol

Here's hopin your next trip over there is more productive.  ;PEP)

Guys I fished the BFL gator division tourney Saturday as a non boater. We stayed in Toho near browns point. Fishing submerged hydrilla in open water surrounded by patches of cattails and other aquatic vegetation which formed little islands. My boater swam a fluke all day, a pattern that had much success in practice for him. I decided to do something different until he started to hit fish, so I flipped, trapped, and spinnerbaited until he got some hits. I lost my first bite on my flippin stick. I caught 2 small keepers on my rattletrap followed by a non keeper on the spinnerbait. My boater finally started to get bite using his technic so I abandoned my trap (the water was shallow and full of hydrilla making trapping almost impossible) and tied on a grub. I swam this grub right over a 3.5 pounder at it sucked it up, for my third keeper. I added a fourth keeper on the grub when it happened, I had a hit from a 2-2.5 pounder and after 2 hours without a bite, it startled me and I set the hook way way to hard for only 10 pound test........snap. That was it 4 keepers totaling 8.11 good enough for 12 place and 270 dollars. Never mind that my bionic hookset cost me second place and 1125.00 dollars more in winnings :'(. My boater caught 4 also for 7.13 or so.

flippin-fool - good report.  Glad to see you did well and off to a great start in the division.  Put a couple more together like that and you will be off to the regional.

Great job! How many boats did you have in your BFL event? We had 67 boats for the Cypress division. Good thing too because top 30 go onto the regional, almost a 50/50 shot, and not so far out of reach that I can't make a come back. Heading for Harris later this week to practice.

I fished lake Hatchineha both sunday and monday , Sunday I caught two bowfins and a northerfn pike. Monday it was cold and windy so I went to the cover side of the lake, where the trees stopped some wind and dug in with shiners, I caught a 4 1/4 largemouth, I also caught one just under four pounds. My cousin caught a 6 1/4 pound largemouth our friend  caught a nice feisty 3/12 pound one, we also caught two more northern pike and six bowfin. We had a blast , these bowfins I hear are good for nothing except the fight they put up. Sounds good to me.

JP2006, We had 179 boats. I just signed up for the harris and kissimmee tourneys 2-18,3-25 respectively. Gonna try for that regional. I was lucky to draw a boater that fished a pattern that allowed me to get some fresh or unfished water. The back of the boat can be tough for someone who's boater is flippin or bed fishing. I will have my fingers crossed for next time at Harris. Good luck to you in your division. BTW how did you do......what place did you finish?

JayPea2006

There were only 67 boats in the Bassmasters series on Sunday. I am in a 23 way tie for last place.  lo

I only need top 30 to move onto regionals.  ;D

Warpath

Great news flippin fool!!!!  Congrats on a good day!!!

JayPea, sorry to hear you did not have similar luck.  You'll get'em next time.

We hear that the Bassmaster Series is short on boats.

Eric

JayPea2006

Yep, 67 out of a 200 boat field. Looks a bit short to me, but hey, at 30 being the cut off, I still have a good shot at redemption. I'll take the odds of moving onto the regional in lieu of a bigger payout.

flippin-fool

BFL got 179 boats. Many guys said that they quit fishing bass because of the shared weight format. The feeling overall is that bass is going down hill. I have fished both but the idea that some co angler can beat me without catching a fish is not good.

~cf back on line. been a busy time  this past 10 days as I have been on the water every day but 2 and was busy with boat repair 1 day.
Lake Toho has been up and down since the 26th of Jan as just when I think I have figured the Bass out here comes a front and high winds and I am back to square 1
On the 27th Brad and Chris Landed 17 and brad toped it with a 9 1/4  first fish on.  Question would you rather catch your biggest first or end the day with the biggest. Good question
On 28th  Brad and Chris landed 9 with Chris Landing the biggest a 5. Cold, overcast and wind.
On the 29th Derrick Payne and Dave Had a tough time as we cast and flipped  artificial and only had 3 and that was a tough 4 Hrs
On the 30 Chris and Brad were out for their last day before flying back to Ky. and the fish were back. They ended with 22 and Chris broke off on a good fish.   The rest of the week went the same as they were off and back on as these fronts passed thru and winds stired up the bottom. The water temp has held around 62 to 65
On the first Dale and friend Joe Had a tough day but as dale says thats fishing and we will try again next tues.
On the 3rd back to windy and a front moveing in and Steve and Rorert had a good morning with 14 in 4 hrs  with 1 -41/2 topper.
On sat the 4th Chris White and Father  inlaw Dale Sanville managed with 4 as we stuck it out in heavy rain, 25 mph winds and the back end of a cool front made its way across central Fl. Chris did put a 7 in the boat.
Sunday was a repeat of sat as we dug in with high winds and riseing Barm. Weather man call for cool nites and lighter winds this week and I hope he is on target. Maybe it will.  Almost all the bass we caught were full of roe and in great shape. With a full moon this next week and a new moon the last of Feb These sows are going to move. Maybe your day will be on a off day and Maybe you will hit it on a good day. Its like playing poker you don" know when you will draw a full house with these fronts moving thru.
Pictures will be posted of these trips on my web site.

Like to s0ay thanks to Power Pole as we installed one on our Boat last week and I wish I had done it a lot earlier. It proved its self this past week as it held the boat in high and gusty winds. No more draging anchors and my back satys thank you. If you don"t have a Power Pole, you are missing out!

Yes, lock through to Kissimmee and work the inside edges of K-Grass in early morning, and outside edges of K-Grass once the sun gets up.

~cf  As we move forward into warmer weather. I look back and wonder where did the time go. It was a fast 4 months as it is probably one of the best seasons for Large Trophy Bass we have experienced {since last year}.  :shocking:This lake is fantastic  ~c~ Our clients experienced large catches and Trophy'10lb+ Bass and the truth is it's not over. just because conventions and spring breaks are, the fish are still here and meaner than ever. We are about 3 weeks out of spawn and these baby's are hungry. We still are boating 20 to 25 in 4 to 6 hrs and just yesterday  Chris Warecki and son from Minnesota  boated a 9lb 11oz  along with 20 and his brother and his son in a second boat had a 8 1/2 and 27 others. :surrender: So come on down and enjoy this super fishery and try your luck at landing a trophy. Our charter service includes 3 Professional Guides. Myself Capt Jim Passmore; Capt Randy Dumars; Capt Roy Dumars; WE also specilize in Saltwater Flats fishing with light tackle and fly. Great time for Reds, trout, tarpon, snook. As the water is warming, and they love warm water. ~sun Fish are always biteing, as we are in the best fishery thats last year round.  8) If you are comeing down or over to Orlando and interested in haveing a great time, catch fish, and have memories that will last a life time.
