Fished Henderson on May 13th.
Went north then went east and found some good looking water.
We caught most of our fish on homemade buzz. ( red head, red&char.skirt, copper blade).
Ended up with 16 count , but only 4 were over 14. Fished for 4 hours then went to game.
thanks again Mike ,for the info.

Got to fish Henderson some this past Sat. and was hoping to go yesterday but the weather put a hold on that. We had some fun fishing in the canals Sat. morning. Caught my first fish with some Sqworm craw-tubes & Megastrike fish attractant, this is a winning team for sure.......Had lots of small fish but nothing big......maybe next time.....water was low but there were good fish caught Sat. Media-Bass was having their tournament there and they had some good fish weight in.....

Fished Henderson this past Sat. 6/11/05, but didn't do to well..........the water was rising from all the rain and it was very muddy.....did manage a few small bass and a pile of goggle eye's,,,,,,man do they have the tap-tap down to a twin of the bass....
all our fish were caught on deep tree tops with plastics holding very tight to the tree bases....... also tequila sunrise was the choice of the day for our fish........
ended up with 12 small bass, 1 crappie and 8 google eyes. Now the crappie & goggle eyes went for a ride home with us........ :roll2:

has anyone fished henderson yet this year?

i went in the lake a couple of times after the hurricanes to hunt Indian Bayou. there was hundreds upon hundreds of dead carp, gou, and shad the first time i went. about a week later i went in there again and i probably spotted 50 or 60 dead bass along the banks of lake pelba that i saw. i found that to be very discouraging and i haven't gone yet this year.

I have fished the area a few times with a few small bass..... I heard that they are doing pretty good the last few weeks........... I have been offshore most of the year and haven't had the chance to go try them........

fished from 6:30 to 11:00 this morning. the water is super muddy. the further north you go it turns into a brownish satined color. there was a very strong south wind that turned the whole place into whitecaps. i hid from the wind the best i could and managed to catch 2 little ones on a black and orange jig. i had one short strike on a spinnerbait and that was it.

Rickoos

thanks for the report.......how far up north did you try? I have seen it muddy like you said and then move up into the northern bayous,, ahha & fusilier of the swamps area and do better with stained water....

thanks again for the report & tight lines,

I fished henderson yesterday afternoon. I popped my line while setting the hook on a ribbit bass. After that a couple of garfish tried to eat it and then I caught a 3 on a wackky rigged senko. I hope to hear some updated reports soon.
thanks,
ryan

My buddies and I are going to Lake Henderson the 1st of November for our annual trip.   I have heard that they were draining the lake...does anyone have any updates on water and fishing conditions?

Wildcat26

The Henderson Lake in this thread is in the Atchafalaia Basin.
They would have to build some levies before they could attempt to drain it.

So is the one I am referring to....

Lake Henderson levels lowered to fight hydrilla

Aug 23, 2006 | Times-Picayune (Registration Required)

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been lowering the level of Lake Henderson a few inches a day as part of a plan to combat the aquatic weed hydrilla. Comment?

Henderson lake drawdown to fight hydrilla

Aug 14, 2006 | WBRZ-TV Baton Rouge

Lake Henderson began a slow fall this weekend when parish officials began lowering water levels to help fight hydrilla, the invasive weed that has choked the popular Atchafalaya Basin lake

It could be a bit dangerous if they lower it too much.  Keep us posted on your upcoming trip and good luck.

I have heard that it is about 3 or 4 feet lower then normal.  Hopefully it will rain from now until the 1st

My old bass club from Biloxi was supposed to be going to Lake Fausse Point(also part of the Atchafalaia Basin) for their fall trip and I had read that it was way down as well.  So they called the cabins where they were supposed to be staying and the people said that you could not even launch your boat there right now.  Needless to say they cancelled their reservations and decided to go to Lake Aliceville on the Tennessee-Tombigbee waterway instead. I would call where you were planning on staying and find out if you can even lauch your boat.

Not a bad trip only about 7 of us fished and all together caught about 32...I caught 12 about 3 a day mostly sandies but a couple of crappie and a few black bass.  I was told they are closing the levies due to low water levels according to the locals it will cause another fish kill.

Its been a while since I've been to Henderson but I fished it regularly for years.  In Feb, they might still be doing the drawdown to kill the hydrilla.  If so, try pitching the wellheads(if they haven't removed them all) north of I-10.  If the water is not drawn down, flip balck/blue plastics on 1oz weights in the hydrilla in the deeper canals.
