lo lo BTW, since it was the 2nd time around for both of us we had our vows changed...the minister didn't pronounce us man and wife ... he pronounced us ninety-nine to life a line from a Lyle Lovett song!

Good afternoon fishing fans.  Well, I'm operating on the satellite internet hookup.  Got it all installed and running.  So far the speed is much better and the installer said that it takes a couple of days to really get everything working correctly...so by Friday afternoon it should be better.  As far the speed now...  ~c~

Fishaholic

Tell me about the speed Mike, we have satellite TV, and I'm on a dial-up, but if the speed isn't any better than a dedicated dial-up I'd sure like to know, because it's hard to justify the additional expense.

Mike Noble

I have always operated with dialup at home.  The best I have ever gotten here is 28.8, but most of the time the hookup was 26.4.  That is very slow.  What I am seeing so far is a lot faster.  I want to wait until Friday afternoon to see if it speeds up....but right now it is WAY better.

yeah that is a slow connection speed, I usually hook up at 44,500 now, my wife hooks up at 53,000 and my mom hooks up at 54,000...guess it all depends on the quality of your phone lines and your modem in sync.

Lipripper

Mike eye can tell that right away your posting faster  lo lo Now  eye'm going to have to take up speed reading  lo lo

Mike Noble

All I have to compare to is my dialup and my connection at work.  This is 10 times faster than my dialup and my Friday it might be as fast as work.  I like it.  ~c~

Now Mike how much is this speed going to set you back  ;D ;) Oh eye forgot money is no object when it comes to speed  lo

somewhere in the neighborhood of 49 bucks a month right?...I'm paying for 3 dial-up services with unlimited usage and 8 email addies for 34 bucks a month...it'd be pretty expensive for me to do the 3 lines as satellite, especially since one of the locations I have service doen't have a dish at all.

Mike Noble

I'm making some changes around here...getting Direct TV and DirectWay (internet)...getting rid of cablevision, AT&T internet provider and long distance, and eventually getting rid of home telephone.  There will not be much different in monthly charges.  The only "upfront" charge was for the internet...purchase equipment...$600.  Well worth it...and you are basically right...its only money and you can't take it with you....but you can spend it $1 at a time.

Fishaholic  my dial up may be slow and having an ol  :st:) penteum 11 running windows 98 don't help much either but it don't cost me anything but the connect cost for phone call no matter how long eye'm on for  ;D so that's about .08 or .09cents per connection.  ;D

Kats Rule And Bass Drool.Viet Nam Vet

Fishaholic

Hmmm...what's your modem rated for? I'm using Win98 too, and this pretty much sings

Lipripper

Fishaholic   eye think it's rated at slow and slowest  lo lo eye'm not sure eye think it's a 56k modem but the whole system is about 6 yrs old  ;D

Kats Rule And Bass Drool.Viet Nam Vet

Fishaholic

Don't know what to tell you...this one's almost 10 years old now.

Lipripper

Fishaholic   and you don't have any trouble with yours being so slow and taking forever to load up a new window  :-\ :help: It must be my dial up free service from work then ;D

Kats Rule And Bass Drool.Viet Nam Vet

Fishaholic

It might be how much space you allocated for temporary internet files to be stored.

cmegee

I think mine is slow because it's JUNK time to get a new one..

Fishaholic

How often do you defrag, or clear you temp files...

bassadict69

Problem could possibly be spyware on your computer. It will slow your computer down almost to the point of not working at all. You can do a search for Spybot, it is a free download. Also download Adaware, it is free also. Using both of them will clear your computer pretty easily!

Even if that isn't your problem, it doesn't hurt to have the two programs & run them every couple of days.

Fishaholic

Get SpyBlaster...it's better than SpyBot, it's free too...you can get updates on a regular basis too...run it at the beginning of every session...helps immensely

bassadict69

You can never have too many spyware detection programs! You will notice that what one will miss, the other will catch. Like Fish said, be sure to update them every time you run them.
