I purchased a Pflueger Summit 7.1 and paired it on a Loomis Frog rod.  First fish landed on the combo weighed 8lbs, bit a Cane Toad.  First impressions of reel are great.

We'll see how it holds up after a year and more big fish in heavy cover.

I'll be watching for your updates.  This should prove interesting.

Couldn't help replying to this thread, especially since it seems the majority of people on here are Shimano enthusiasts. I have fished Pfluegers for the last 3 or 4 years. The only problem I had with one of them is-a spring broke on one of my President Baitcasters and the thumbbar would not come back up. I have had NO problems finding someone to work on it. And the kicker is-I have bought all of mine either off of Ebay or one of the different boards-so they have all been used. And that is the only failure I have had out of them in these few years out of 10 baitcasters. All of them have been Trions and Presidents. My partner also has replaced his reels with Pfluegers and is equally satisfied. Bottom line is, you can get a bad one out of any of them-even Shimanos. Get what you like and can afford. God bless-Eddie

I now own 14 Pflueger's. Presidents, Trions, and have added 2 Supremes to the stable. All I can say is "awesome". I have not had a single reel failure in almost 2 years of heavy use. I also own 2 President spinning reels that I use for finessing and they are equally tough.

Not sure I would place it (Pflueger) by a curado, but mostly from knowledge of one reel a friend bought that occasionally slipped (anti reverse) badly and always at an inopportune time.  It may be the only bad reel they ever made for all I know.  I just know it is only $19. more for a curado... I have 6, one of them almost 10 years old and never had a reel problem.  Can't see messing with that track record.  Hope they don't quit making curados for a lot of years.

I don't like Shimino for precisely that reason.  I own 2 that the one way bearing will let go everytime you set the hook.  Not for me never again.  I picked up a Trion this year took a few casts to break it in and bam best reel I have ever used.  Keep in mind that my limit is 100 bucks on a reel.

Just FYI on the Anti Reverse Bearing slipping  ;) The couple that I have seen, it's because the bearing was dry, hit it with some grease and your good to go again.

Did that worked for about 3 hours missed a fish because of freespool and picked up my trion.  Haven't looked back since.  I just don't care for them much.  I guess I should mention that they are about 8 years old.

I have all three: a Trion, a curado BSF and a curado D. The trion is a decent reel, but for me it seems to be more "finicky" the lighter an item is that I throw. It is an excellent caster and I feel lucky that I have not experienced many of the horror stories I have read on other forums with people having problems with it.

With that said, there is something about the curado BSF that makes me give it the ever so slight edge over the Trion, but I am not complaining. I too got it for $79.00.

"Papi! I like this reel. It is so much easier to use than the other one (the spinning reel) and it is more fun to use too." Now all I can say to that is this;
"That's my little girl!"
