Plastic Worm

Simple modification...add scent...and you know why.

Pick up an upolsterey needle kit take out the needle about two inches long with the big eye keep it in a tooth pick holder tube in your tackle bag when you need to add a few strands of different color skirt material to your jig or spinnerbait they thread easily through the big eye then slide it under the skirt band and pull the new material through. Great for adding a different color like red on each side of your bait.

On any soft plastic minnow looking bait, take a small piece of flame red yarn and poke it into the bait there the gills would be. It makes the bait look like it is in destress and bleeding from the gills, This makes a great bait to deadstcick.

Beetle Spin

Replace the spinner arm with a larger arm and replace the silver blade with a fluorescent colored blade...small baits catch big bass in early Spring, but the short arm of the beetle spin sometimes prevents good hooksets.

Take a Brushhog & push in a rattle tub into the back between the back side, keeps the rattle safe inside the plastic and adds sound

to do something different to a soft jerkbait, Add split shots as far back on the hook shank before the bend then cast it out and slow roll it the weight being farther back will make the soft jerkbait swim with a side to side motion, it also makes it so it has a walk the dog type action when you twitch it.

When you want your worm to fall a little different you can insert a simple straight nail to the tail and it will cause it to sink faster and different attracting more attention....

I like to use super glue in the eye of my trailer hook instead of rubber.I t keeps the hook in place.

Yitbos78

it has been in the teens quite a bit here in Michigan.... 40 felt great, sunday morning it was 15 below zero!!!!!! gotta love michigan :roll2:

Ron Fogelson

Take a leadhead jig & paint whatever color you want, add eyes & use trimmed skits from terminator make any size jig any color for half the price because you can change the skits from jig to jig.

Any Small Crank Bait

Add a Hildebrant 2" spinner(it's just an inline spinner on a short piece of gold wire, no hook)in front of the crank...sometimes you need a little extra flash with your wobble.

casey3535

I also like to trim jig skirts short during winter it make it lighter and falls slower.

Bang garlic spray is a must during hot summer months when fish arent taking bait completly.

Ron Fogelson

Use a 1/2onz or whatever size jig head you want & add a beetle spin, spinner blade to it, thread on a soft plastic jerkbait & you have a lure no-one else ever used.

Spinner Baits

When adding a trailer hook to a spinner bait, I like to use a piece of fluorescent tubing to hold on the additional hook rather than the surgical tubing they provide...this adds your bleeding color to  the end of the bait.

CuT THE BRUSH GUARD OFF A JIG WHEN BED FISHING MAKES FOR A EASIER HOOK SET.

Tnx Laurie
I also add eyes to some of my baits with Prosoft worm glue.
This is great stuff but be carefull with it as if you spillin on you the cemical reaction when it drys will burn you badly I have a big ugly scar on my leg from spilling a little on my pants.
It burnt me so bad I had to go to the doc. My wife thought I was crazy went I jerked my pants down in the middle of the lake. LOL

Trailer hooks for all baits

Slip a piece of fluorescent tubing over the shank of the hook and eye, then run the point of the bait's hook through the tubing and eyelet at the same time...the trailer hook won't come off and it'll give the fish more reason to chomp down on the trailer hook too.

casey3535

I use power worms for trailers on jig and spinnerbait fish just hang on longer making for a sure hook set.

Mike Noble

Sprinkle some salt into your bags of soft plastic while they are stored in your boat...like Gene Larew worms.  Added flavor.

And by all means be online during the contest to learn more tips.

Use a 1/2onz or whatever size jig head you want & add a beetle spin, spinner blade to it, and a skirt off an old jig or spinnerbait gives you a smaller profile yet heavier weight to fish deep structure without the lure ridding up in the water

casey3535

Put different colors of plastic baits in one bag then put it in the sun, the colors will spill on each other makes a bait that fish dont see everyday.

Uncle Josh Pork Frog

Put the bait on a weedless hook and work through the pads slowly...to modify this bait, use a weedless hook that is weighted...to control the amount of sinking in the pockets of the pads.

I ALWAYS ADD RATTLES TO MY JIGS IT WILL DRAW SLUGGISH FISH INTO BITING.
