Matt, we also have a tournament down there in a couple weeks. Keep checking back as I am sure folks will start posting about there prefishing. I know in the past this time of year a rouge in the buck brush can be very productive. I also know of a carolina rig fisherman that does very well down there this time of year. Warning on this though several of us have been in the boat with him and not done near as well he just has a nack for it......

A great place for a Carolina rig is down by the dam.  There is a creekbed and old pond down by that end of the lake running all the way to a little cove.  If you noticed in the past few months, the perch fishermen have been stacked up in this area.

A drop shot would probably work pretty good in the deep sections, if they are suspending around the bottom.

Just wanted to say thanks alot for the information that ya'll gave me.  I will be keeping track of the post. I am new to this site and already I am enjoying it.  Maybe I will meet ya'll on the water soon.  Good fishing and thanks once again.

Matt,

I am kinda new to this site myself, having stumbled on it back in August.  Let me tell you, you won't meet an nicer group of fisher men/women.  All folks here are very, very nice - some might even take you fishing with them!

I highly suggest that you hang around and see if this place and the people grow on you.  I am sure you are more than welcome to come fish with us sometime.

Welcome, and good luck!

went to grand this am before I had to go into work. The lake was packed with boats. I have never seen it as bad. I did manage to get 7 in the boat before my pager went off. All of them were in two to three feet of water. Most everyone I saw was pounding the bank with white blades and Gabbys fav, wat/red lizards. I was using a brown and amber jig with a wat/red craw in 1/2 ounce. Might hit caddo in am if I am not working just to say hey to all in the team club. daniel

Hey dan,

Make sure you come say howdy.  My buddy Brantley (who wouldn't fish with me on Sundays) wanted me to skip the tourney to go with him to Grand.  He says they are slaying the bass there this weekend.

He guided on Toledo today, and absolutely hammered the fish.  He said they caught around 25-30 fish -  most around 3 lbs.  He also mentioned that he hooked into the BIGGEST bass he has ever felt, but couldn't turn it and got broken off.

I really hope we have one of our TC tournys on Grand Bayou!  Now is a great time to fish that place!

I fished GB last Friday morning during the showers with a buddy. He caught 10 and I got 4. No slot fish at all. One 3.5 lb bass 18" & rest were under the slot. I tried a white spinner bait, then a chartruse buzz bait, and a golden red-fin broken back minnow without luck. Scott caught 'em on a tiger stripe Rebel wee R. He'd cast to the same places I just thrown and catch fish. They just liked his bait/retrieve.

I tried a Baby 1 in tiger stripe without luck then finally a rattle trap produced 3 of my fish. Scott hung-up & lost his bait stopping his bites. We later switched to plastic and picked up 1 apiece.

We had our boat in 5 to 6 feet of water and casted toward shore. There was submerged hydrilla and we tried to run the crank baits as slow as possible over the grass.

It showered on and off all morning. The sun never came out. We didn't get any hits in less than 3 feet of water. Water was slightly stained and about 60 degrees. Only about 5 vehicles at the ramp when we left at 12:30.

My buddy Brantley fished GB Sunday from 3-dark, and caught around 20-30 fish by himself!  He said they were murdering Carolina rigged "T" worms and Rat-L-Traps.  There is a creek that runs parallel with the dam.  Should be able to find it with your hardware....

Interestingly enough, he told me that GB is ENCOURAGING people to take 5-6 fish home with them every trip, because the lake is over populated.  I guess the idea is to trim the fish count so some can get bigger.  I know that you can pull a 12 pounder out of there, but it does seem like the average big fish is around 3-4 pounds.  I have been fishing with Brantley when he caught a 5 and a 6 pounder within 20 minutes of each other.

I can't wait to get back there!

Went to Grand Bayou Saturday and sunday. We caught10 or 12 saturday, was'nt counting. No size, they were all around 10 to 14 inches. They hit blades crankbaits and texas rig and fluke . That little lake got pounded. People were parking in the grass at 9:30. Seems like they turned on at about 1:00. Sunday we caught 7 or 8, little ones again. Same techniques with the exception of a couple on the Carolina Rig. We left at 1:00 . I think they all had soar mouths by Sunday. Going back saturday for a tournament. Can anybody tell were to get the big mamas. They should be moving in to spawn.

Thanks,
 Danny

Fished my "new" favorite lake today. Just so everyone know's #1 Gas is cheaper in Coushatta at 1.49 a gallon for regular unleaded. and #2 The "big Mama's" aren't where you would think they would be.  I found two more beds today with fish locked on. The lizard bite continues, however mostly a morning bite. The bite shut off around noon. there must be a Crappie tournament coming up soon on the Grand b/c I saw a slew of high dollar crappie rigs down there today from states such as: Oklahoma, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Texas. The trucks all had sponsorship decals and stickers. Good luck to anyone going and watch out for the two stupid lab dogs at the ramps. They will not move out from behind you trailers when you are launching.,........ ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8).......Dave the Dope Man

Dave,

I'll bet I know where those beds were!  I can't wait to get back down there.  Did you nail those bedding fish?  Did they bite for you?

Gabby

Do you realize how much gas it takes just to get to Coushatta?  I'll continue to buy gas in Bossier.

Had a real good day on Grand today. Got to fish all day, no work. All my fish came on a worm today in deeper water. I saw everyone else pounding the bank and not doing all that well so I move out and fished deeper humps and did well. Had six over the slot and a mess of fish in the slot. Big fish of the day was a little over 5. Wish our club toury had been today.

I was one of the bank-pounders yesterday! I caught 6 bass. 2 over, 2 under, & 2 in the slot. My largerst was 4.5lbs. I caught all on a spinnerbait in shallow water. Started fishing at 7:30 and quit at 1:00. Best bite was early for me. The parking lot was full. Game warden said he thought there were 3 tournaments going at once.

Went to Grand Bayou saturday for a club tournament. That lake is full of fish. Had a good day until 3:00. Caught fish all day. Caught them on white spinnerbaits, white crankbaits, and watermelon/red brush hawgs two overs  and three unders Had a limit but could only weigh three. A couple of them lost weight and length over the day one of them was 17 1/8 and lost almost a half inch. The oppossum cops watched us weigh and they wrote me one. I saw them standing there, if I had any doubt about the fish I would have done something with it. The guy just didnt have enough sense to understand that those fish will draw up after being in a livewell for seven hours. I guess they get their kicks writing outlaws like myself tickets.Gotta love it. Watch for them down there, they  like to pester people a lot.

Fished Grand yesterday and caught a bunch of fish, mostly on a carolina rig though. Did see a bunch of empty beds and a few bedding fish. I one I just couldn't pass up, when she finally bit it was on thrashing wallering ripping drag, didn't think she would fight so hard. When we first seen her Nathan said that is an 8 pounder he's a pretty good judge 7 and a half and flat. She was almost done and from the looks of alot of other beds the majority of the spawn will be over there in just a couple days.......

I fished THE GRAND Sunday and caught fish all day.  I was only able to manage getting five under in the boat.  I must have caught 15 in the slot.  Caught all the fish on a watermelon tikki stik with about one and a half inches of the tail dyed chartruese.  Had to fish really really slow.  The spawn must be almost over because there were alot of empty beds.

Probably going to Grand Bayou this weekend with my son.  Any tips from anyone on baits, depth, location, etc.?

Mike Cork

Try a top water early before the sun gets high, then switch to a carolina rig. I believe the fish are in a post spawn pattern so they will be from 2 to 10 ft just work your favorite spots at a variety of depths. Watermelon is always a good color.

Picked up sixteen @ Grand Bayou today.  We worked hard to catch them though, throwing everything but hand grenades.  Caught most of them in 2 feet of water.

I am planning on hitting grand for my first time this weekend.  Anybody have any advice or areas I need to focus on?  I hear that grand doesn't have the cypress tree cover that is common to the s'port area lakes.

dave the dope man

This is my opinion on what to do! ( remember what opinions are like- someone else will probably post more info) #1 c-rigged cinko's ( I use a baby bass color) on points or 1/3 the way into the coves. #2 weightless ring fry's in shallow pockets with grass. #3 early and late topwater baits. basically your choice of bait, try your favorites. again good luck and tight lines.............Dave the Dope Man.....
