Yep, it has to go over 17 to keep it.

well just wondering the lakes that we have with 14-17 slot. if it toouches 14 you have to throw it back but if it touches 17 has to touch 17 you can keep it. so just wondering.. thanks

Trey

I have always heard the same thing, in fact I talked to a game warden about it last winter and he said that if the fish touches 14 inches, it is in the slot.  If the fish touches 17 inches, it is outside the slot.

Trey
Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and you'll never see him again!

Hey I finally got out on the water, we got there about 7am and by 9am the wind was more than we could handle. We did catch 4 fish one over, one slot fish, and two unders. Considering the conditions we had, it was pretty good fishing. Hope this weekend is a little nicer.

By the way Laurie did an awesome job fighting the wind and keeping me fishing, as my back is a huge handicap. Didn't realize how often you use a back muscle to cast, move about the boat, and a hook set yeah right. Going to be a couple more weeks before I am full up operational again. I may have to go to the paper lipped fish, the sac-a-lait for a while I see the are finally moved up on cypress :-*

Hey Mike,

If your waist is anywhere from 36 to 38 (I doubt it) I have something for you that might make things MUCH easier on you.  Let me know - it is a set of spandex shorts with a velcro wrap for your waist.  It will support your back and keep compression on it, making things much easier.

By the way, they are brand new so you don't have to worry about having my funk on it.  Let me know if you are interested, bro.

Dude, great idea, I have a back support and didn't even think to use it. Thanks bud ~c~

Im going to be wearing one of those tomorrow as well. Ive found that the only thing that has made me totally forget about my back though during a long day of fishing  is catching lots of fish. :-*

Mike Cork

They have really been biting very good down there, I wasn't able to figure any kind of pattern out yesterday because of the wind, but I folks have been catching a bunch and you have been on some really good fish. I expect there to be some strong finishes in this one, can't wait to see the hawgs you all bring in ~c~ ~c~ ~c~ You might find us in the truck with the seats kicked back waiting on ya'll though :roll2:

Mike, I usually wear one.  It is pretty comfortable - as long as you have a t-shirt tucked into it.  I will try and dig it up and bring it Sunday.

Fished Grand Bayou today in the club tournament.  It was a tough day.  Only managed 7 fish, with only 3 that would weigh.  All fish came shallow on a watermelon seed fluke.  Could not get bit on a spinnerbait or carolina rig like last week.

Fished the TCTC today at Grand Bayou and tough would definitely describe the day for us as well. We caught one tight lip about 9 am on a carolina rigged lizard and didnt have any friends to go with him until about 1 pm . It was crucial that we had wind in the areas where we selected to fish because the  areas we found holding fish during the prefish were shallow and clear (with grass present)..  There was barely any until the afternoon . Once the wind kicked up we figured we might be in business so we went to our final spot of the day (where we caught a 7.2  last wednesday prefishing and basically the same area where we caught a 8.02 the week before) A long point with what looked to be a  ditch beside it. There we caught three fish over the slot and one under. The first over came on a carolina rigged centipede dipped in chartreuse, and the final three came on one of my favorite baits ..A texas rigged baby brush hog (rootbeer green dipped in chartreuse with an 1/8 ounce weight.  Basically swam the bait through 3 ft grass . We weighed a little over 12 pounds .

Terry and I fished TCTC today, we had 7.97 i think.we had our limit by 0945 we had One over four under.one was on crankbait, senko's, wtm/sd fluke that we dyed. we caught c-rig fish but they didnt help. I caught 9 fish with 4 keepers, terry had 8 bites with only one keeper, so it was tough since we didnt prefish. but we  had fun got a little sun burn..lol oh one thing i did when the wind picked up was put a little sticky weight on the hook shank to help work the fluke..

Well, it was a tough day.  We caught half a dozen jackfish - some of which are the biggest I have seen yet.  One had recently been attacked, obviously by another jack.  Unfortunately, the only fish we caught on my favorite morning hole were jacks.  Either they are quicker than the bass, or they just plain took over that area.  Used to be a great hole for holding bass..... :(

Anyway, I was throwing senkos and other plastics all day - but the lizards came through for us in the end to land a couple of mercy fish.  I finally used a lizard with a split shot, and got bit hard.  Lost the fish, but I know it was a good one.  I have a bruise on my hip where the rod dug in after I set the hook.  Had him for a second, then he jerked loose.  Woulda Coulda Shoulda.

Anyway, Daniel carried the weight today.  It is hard to find cover for the fish on Grand on a bright day like Sunday.  We did find a new spot, though.  Daniel caught a nice one that was only 2.57 lbs (thought we were bringing a 4 pounder to the scale).  Got it in some very windy water off the bank with a lizard.  Actually, I think water from different directions were meeting in the spot he caught it.  Same area that I lost that above mentioned bite.

railroader - I had to add weight to my "weightless" lures too.  I just stuck a couple nails in them, and they dropped like Senkos.

Chris - that long point wouldn't happen to be over by the damn-end of the lake, would it?  If so, I have hooked mussel shells, of all things, while c-rigging there.  I thought it was gravel along that point.  A creek channel runs right next to it, you can slay them there.

Fished the TCTC and boated 9 fish and broke 2 bigger ones off. one was caught by BassBuff about a hour later with my fluke still in his mouth. Only had 2 unders and the rest where slot fish. All fish came off of watermelon red fluke. Some in shollow grass and some in 6-8 ft by letting it sink and swim it back slowly. Good day fishing but SLOT LAKES SUCK for tournaments. Congrats on the win chris and brent!

Mitch

We weighed in one little fish...  :'( We caught I think 4 slot fish on Watermelon senko, Horny Toad, & Junebug Red baby brush hog with dipped tail. Most fish caught between matted vegetation & the bank. Cast onto bank & drag it into the hole of water between the bank & the crud.

Found one small hole at about 2:40. Put one 16 3/4 in the boat & our small weigher. Missed 2 & had one I could see that would only follow our baits but not hit it.

Tried carolina rigs with no takers...It was a long hard day!

Also fished the TCTC yesterday, wow what a tough day. I figured it was going to be awesome but the front that came threw Friday morning really shut these fish down Saturday was blue bird with high winds and yesterday was blue bird with no wind until about noon. We managed two unders on top water, three unders on a carolina rigged lizard. After the wind got up we caught 8 or so fish in the last hour on a point but everyone of them were 16 inch clones, they fight good and I enjoyed catching them but it is fruitless for the scale. We had 4.65 total weight 5 unders averaged less than a pound a peiece lo

Chris - Daniel & I won last years GB tourney on that point/ditch!  We had our limit in 45 minutes, inclucing 3 overs.  I got 2 overs with a C-rig on those dips off the little island.

All we got there Sunday morning were 3 or 4 jackfish.  Usually a really good morning hole.

I was night fishing that hole a couple years ago with my buddy Brantley, and he caught a 5 and 6 pounder within 5 minutes of each othere.

One of many great holes on Grand Bayou.

Interesting. Might be a good place for the UBCS :-* Gabby keep the honey holes coming. lo

BIG PAPA

Trey and I caught 10 Bass, 3 on a C-rig and 7 on a Senko, 6 slots 2 keepers and 2 dinks. Windy grass lines was the key for slots  for us, I do not know what the key was for keepers :-\ But hey we were fishing ~c~

I almost forgot, Trey said all of the overs and about half of the unders he cleaned were still full of eggs.

Now that is very interesting to me, I would have thought the spawn was all but over from the looks of the fish we caught. They all seemed very thin and soars appeared to be healing. Maybe a trip or two back down there would be worth it :-*

Hi. I am new to the forum but just wanted to say I have been catching a few slots on a 1/2 oz lazer eye spinnerbait. But mostly just a whole buncha jack fish. Maybe I need to get a jack fish tournament together hehe
