Fished Grand Bayou today from 11 to 5.  Caught eleven bass and two jackfish.  Nothing over the slot.  Small crankbait on outside edge of grass on secondary points in the coves worked for a few, but most came on a spinnerbait over submerged grass along a windy bank.  Temps were 55 - 59.

Mike Cork

Thanks for the update, That water temp is getting very close to an explosion of good bass being caught.

Went again today with my son, ended up with seven, all small.  Carolina rig on deeper humps next to the channel of all places.  Couldn't make anything happen shallower.

Mike Cork

It won't be long I am sure. I know that lakes seems to always be a little behind the others, I don't know why but we can fish the spawn until it is over on the lakes north of bossier and then go down to Grand and catch the last of it there. It's about time to hear about one of those double digit hawgs though, happens every march.

Mike - my buddy Ronald got one well over 9 lbs a few weeks ago.

Fished a tournament Saturday on The Grand.  My partner Greg and I took 1st Place with 10.85 #'s from 4 fish.  ;D  Greg won big bass with a 4.51 and I took second with a 3.80 toad.  Our other two fish were under the slot.  We caught three or four slot fish, too.  It took me until 11:00 to figure out a patern.  :-\  We ended up catching all of our big fish, one under and a couple of slots on main lake points with a Carolina rigged fluke in Baby Bass color.  The water temp was around 54 when we started and got up to 58-59 by 2:00.  I've gotta give a shout out to Greg.  He caught the big fish as well as a few real good slots on 8# test on a spinning rod.  ~gf  He did a real good job of being patient and letting the rod do the work.  He just kept tention on the line, didn't let the fish jump, and let the fish wear itself out.  Good job!!!

I started fishing shallow, because last weekend I caught a few in the grass around 3 foot deep.  We didn't have any bites in shallow water Saturday, so I figured that with the rain and cold weather we had the fish might have pulled back into deeper water.  We got most of our bites in 5-8 foot of water, but as the water temp rose the fish started to move into shallower water.  Our last few fish were in 3 foot of water, but still on a main lake point.

I fished The Grand on the 21st and found all the fish to still be deep.  Couldn't find
anything shallow.  Had 3 fish over the slot and 4 in and 6 under on carolina rigs. had
a five fish weight of 12.16lbs.  Hardly any action shallow except jack fish.

Mike Cork

Sounds like everyone had some decent fishing down there. Ratltrap were your fish relating to points as well or out on the flats?

I fished GB on Saturday and took 2nd place to Trey with only 4 unders weighing 5 pounds and change.  We used spooks, crank baits, spinnerbait, and flukes.  The big fish (although we cought none) seem to be in 8' of water.  A C-rig is the presentation they seem to want.  We did catch a couple of unders near the bank, but if you want the toads, you gotta go deep.  One of the guys in the tournament lost a big fish at the boat.  He said it had to be about 8 lbs.  He hooked it in 8' of water on a c-rig.

How long of a leader are you using with the brushhogs and flukes?

I was using about an arm's length.  I would hold the fluke at my chest and then strecth out my arm and that's where I was putting the weight.  I was also using a 2/0 hook and was leaving the hook point completely out.

The big fish I found were located in deep water close to or in creek bends. The
flats around these areas produced the smaller fish.

Are there any maps of the lake that can be bought? Maybe at the little store at the landing.  Merila and myself will be trying to plan a trip to GB this month.....

If you go to the Grand Bayou Resort (co-located with the ramp) they have a pretty good drawing of the lake in the little guard shack.

Unfortunately the best map of the lake, is a topo map before they filled it and I don't even know how to find one. My GPS doesn't even show the lake ::)

Not really much need for a map unless it gives depth, launch go about 2 hundred yards to your right and you can see the whole lake from there. ;D

If you call me before you go to Grand, I will try to meet you down there and show you around. It only takes a few minutes to run from one end to the other and get a feel for the lake. If you want my number you can email me and can get the ball rolling. Daniel Green

Fished Grand Bayou today with a friend.  Fish were still holding in the deeper (10 - 12 ft) water.  Water temp warmed to 59 before we left.  Caught 14, nothing over, most under.  Tx. rig lizard fished really slow was the only way we could get them to bite.

Rickoos

Boy,  you guys are making my skin crawl talking about all those bass being caught... lo

Ricky

Sounds like ya'll had a good day..........
