Sorry Mike this isn't a top water,, Who ahs tried the Yum Hoodini Shad? I have. Now this is a superb soft plastic jerk bait. I have fished it weight less of course but have you fished it on a c-rig and jerk it fast? go try that and tell me what you think. Its great for aggresive fish and non-aggresive fish for a reaction bite....Dave

A jointed red fin by cordel. Slow rolled with the rod tip held high and it stays on the surface creating a wake that drives fish in clear water crazy. This is a great bait for cloudy breezy days o tablerock.

Sparkle Squirts by Bass Pro Shops

I love this tiny tube bait, just enough subtle sparkle and not overly gaudy colors, it's a great finnesse bait for bass during a cold front.

Gotta throw in one more notable plastic.  This one is called the "Grim Reaper" by Bearpaw's Custom Poured Baits.  It is a grub style body with a sickle tail that almost acts like a ribbon tail worm.  Once again, sticking with my newest favorite color, it is a rootbeer pepper with chartreuse/pepper tail.  This bad boy really pulls the bass off laydowns and retaining walls.  I juuuuust let it fall into the water over the side of cover/structure and BAMMO!  It either gets hit like a freight train or there isn't a bass in the area, period.

bass1cpr

Fat free shad  this bait has a tight wabble and the bill is built so that it deflects off of wood or rock which really drives fish crazy.

Mike you missed out an all the talk of topwater baits. I think that I have been seconded and thirded on the effectiveness of Rebel Pop' R's bait. If the fish are on and the water is calm enough, I will fish it all day long with a 6 1/2 foot fenwick mh action rod. Great water pusher and tail. Really works up the bass and the hooks have a turn to them, work really well to keep you from loosing/missing them in heavier cover.

I almost hate to post this one, its My top secret bait.....I have to say this is the go-getter. Its a Storm suspending swim bait. It can be fished shallow or deep over grass. It doesn't neccesarily "suspend" but sinks at a very slow pace. They come three in a pack....Dave

Sonic Spinner by Panther Martin

I love the Sonic Spinner because it's a small profile bait, can be worked very slow as far as straight shaft spinners go and gives off a pulsating vibration during the retrieve...it's a fish magnet, great for schooling bass, and working shallow water parellel to the shorline.

bass1cpr

Storm thin fin this is a shallow bait with a thin profile so it has a tight wabble to it It will replace a floating rattle trap and the fish don't see many of them any more.

FisherMOM

Micromunch Stickbait

they are saturated with salt to sink faster.
Comparable to a Senko, but more durable.

More fish for the bait!  :)

and haven't gotten anything except
poison ivy and a sunburn,
you're still better off than the worm.

Now for schooling fish I can't think of a better bait than the Mann's Little George. You can cast that baby a mile and they are deadly on schoolers.

I also use the Mizzouri (sp?) topwater bait quit a bit in a dark body (top) white bottom with a rainbow tail, It has a little smaller mouth profile than the Rebel Pop R but it is a nice slim bait with both hooks hanging lower in the water than the Pop R.

Works really well in shallow water (under1 ft deep) to keep from missing just off the shoreline  ;D

Nitro Fish

Cotton Cordel SuperSpot

I have one of these in a strange color (Blue, Silver, Orange, Red with Bright Green eyes), in the fall bass will nail this baby, and I haven't seen another in this color. I guess bass haven't seen one like it so they attack it!

Mike Noble

Johnson's spoon, fished with a skirt added.  Works great around grass and lilly pads.

Cordel big o this is one of the originals that started the crankbait craze. The come in several sizes so you can work the whole water colum from shallow to about 8 feet.

Spin Bang-O-Lure by Bagley

I love this bait because it's a great stop n go surface twitcher, I've caught a lot of bass on this baby...twitch it along then let it rest for quite a while,...a slight twitch and hold on.

OHbassaholic

Topwater time.  My absolute favorite buzzbait is another custom lure from B&D Custom Lures.  These buzzers have either a single plastic quad prop or a twin arm double plastic quad prop.  These shine for making the slowest possible presentations around any cover/structure that has bass looking for a meal on the surface.  I have two colors that have worked for me.  All white or the cotton candy.

The Zoom Brush Hawg is hard to beat when night fishing. I like to throw the baby brush hawg in either June Bug or black/blue. These baits displace a lot of water and make it easier for the bass to find at night.

FisherMOM

Zoom Super Fluke, pearl color.

Resembles a dying or fleeing Fish, depending on how you fish it.
Bass tend to gulp them, so be cautious not to gut hook them.

Beetle Spin... Bass love them & it is smaller than most baits so when the bite is tough you can downsize to it & usually put a couple of fish in the boat. I have caught bass up to 4 pounds on them, so it is not just for the baby bass!

Yitbos78

How about most disapointing lures?

The flying lure....in purple.....to get the right action it couldn't have a weight on it. But if it didn't have a weight you could throw it 4 feet away, it it had a weight on it, it would get out there but the swimming motion wouldn't work (maybe only in Japan :) )!

What a waste of my money in my youth.....

bass1cpr

Bandit 200 series this bait come thru brush betten tha just about any crankbait I think the mustad tripple grip hooks are a big factor in hlping this bait come thru brush but when a fish hits it they're usually stuck good.

The BASS you save may be mine!!

bass1cpr

Strike king series three is a good switch up from a bandit if they are seeing alot of the 200 series it has a little different woble than a bandit although the do hang up a little more. still a good crankbait.

Rapala Jointed Minnow, J13

I love the Jointed Minnow, model J13 by Rapala in the silver n black combo, this is a dynamite Springtime bait for big bass worked just under the surface near emergent weeds
