For those who were unable to attend our last meeting 01-21-07, I have done my best to get the Tournament Rules and By-Law changes posted to the web site ASAP.  I've left all changes to the documents in red.  If you'd like to see the old documents, to compare to, they are still available from the site in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) files.  Links to these files are in blue at the end of their respective sections.  After our next meeting I'll change all of the text to black and create printer friendly .pdf's for the new rules and By-Laws.

Dave has done a great job of getting these rules and By-Laws amendments up on the chapter website for all of you to read.

If anyone has questions about these amendments, please contact me and I'll be happy to discuss it. A few of you have already and I appreciate that.

Keep in mind that these documents were first drawn-up 18 years ago and it was suggested that we change, or update some of the language to make sure that we were current and addressing our chapter's needs in 2007 and beyond.

It was a valuable exercise and I am convinced that the new documents, when enacted, will make a great bass club even better.

I invite all of you to attend the February 18 meeting and cast your vote.

Can someone still sign up for a tournament the morning of and pay their $40 for their initial membership fee and still fish that tourney or do they have to wait the 30 days?
Also, what is considered a registered professional angler? Is it dertimined by the board or is there a list that can be looked at?

According to the By-Laws update, a prospective member can certainly enter one of our tournaments first as a guest, be presented as someone interested in membership, and then follow the guidelines laid out in the by-laws.

Approval of a new member will be a simple process among the board members and may take less than the 30-days if our tournament schedule has more than one event during that waiting period. I'll guess that 99.9% of new members will be approved without discussion. If there is aneed for flexibility in the 30-day guideline I'm sure that we can make it happen, as long as the board is in agreement.

Regarding the professional angler status, the board came up with a guideline that I feel can work.

If an individual routinely registers, past or present, on the pro (boater) side of a large circuit, the board will get together to review the situation and will likely determine that this individual is competing at a level that is much higher than that of our bass club.

When these issues are brought to our attention, they will be discussed and voted on by the board. The board will always make the determination of pro status in the best interest of the bass club as a whole.

We put this into the amended By-laws as an effort to protect the interest of the "weekend angler". It is our opinion that the weekend angler is the backbone of this organization. We want to keep the level of competition fair and enjoyable.

If a member decides to make the move to the eventual pro level, we would like to help them achieve that goal in any way that we can. Once that goal is achieved, we feel it is in the best interest of the bass club for that person to move on.

I hope this helps to explain the amendments.
