Even the vendors looked like they would enjoy a stick in the eye rather than sit for a minute more.

I cannot believe Rodney has his picture everywhere, I asked one of his salesmen if he(Rodney) liked himself or what, guy turned red but did not answer so I told him that alone would keep me from buying a boat from them. By the way they bought out Riverside Marine wednsday and closed them up.

Haven't the doors to Riverside been closed for awhile?? I was over that way a month or so ago and don't remember seeing anything in the building. Or, maybe I'm just gettin' old! :roll2:

They were still open last week...I was in there one day and from the talk it didn't sound like they were closing....guess things change...

Scottie

BassBUFF

Did they move from E. 70th before now?

Chris

They took up at Reeves old place from what I gather.

Yes...they were in the old Reeves Marine center.....had a decent selection of baits too...shoot...another tackle store gone from my end of town... >:(

Scottie

BassBUFF

Well, that would explain it lo!

BIG PAPA

Yes they had been at the old Reeves location for over a year. I had just worked a deal with their Bait store to get discounts for UB members. He said he found out when they walked in Wednesday morning to start moving inventory. Owner never even said anything.

True Story, they(Rodney and Brad Reeves) walked in Wednesday morning and told all employees to "pack your sh!!, get out, your all fired" was the exact words that were said. I was told this from Dennis who was the mechanic working there that morning. Not sure of his last name, but knew him from when he worked at Bass Pro Shops in the Tracker dealership. They were bought out because Reeves needed a competitive aluminum boat line. G3.

Ok i havent met ONE PERSON that likes Rodney Reeves.... so WHY do people keep using him?  Because he gives a promotional boat to anyone that walks in the door?   For crying out loud his salesman used to sell furniture, they dont know a strake from a transom.

Ron Fogelson

Just a friendly reminder here.

I also have yet to hear much of anything positive, but everything for me has been word of mouth.  I've never been treated bad by anyone there, even if I have only been looking around a few times.

I know it has to be hard to lose your job, Danielle my wife lost hers on 2 Jan 07; what a way to start the new year.

Lets make sure we hold this topic to the same standards as the rest of the site and try and keep criticism constructive.  Helps Mike Laurie and Ultimatebass.com out immensely by being known to talk through topics like this with out slandering people or companies.

I guess I'm missing something here.....Someone at Riverside had to agree to sell the place...and apparently did so....

Could have been bought by Travis, Smith, or any of the other dealers that wanted the place...Not taking up for Reeves but trying to figure out how anyone can make another sell a business of this sort unless they wanted to...and got an offer the couldn't refuse...

As to wanting the G3 boat line...Would be strange that G3 would let Reeves have that line when Travis already handled that boat....in the same city..

Scottie

BassBUFF

Travis has Fisher and Pro Craft, not G3.

Paul Keith

Hogwild,
Plano Marine and Reeves have both been trying to buy them out and Reeves got it for whatever reason or amount of money. The owners did sell out, but it was the way Reeves went about taking it over with the current employees there...as far as 2 lines in the same city...don't know.

Hawgwild

My bad Bassbuff....but didn't Reeves already have G3 when they were in the old place that had been occupied by Riverside?  I do remember looking at their metal boats back then...What metal boats had Reeves been selling lately...think they did have some duracraft for a while.?

Scottie

Paul Keith

Hogwild,
Just got off the phone and found out some more info...Travis carries Fischer boats and Reeves just needed the G3 line not the business.

BIG PAPA

Scottie it is the way they carry on their business that turns people off, they had every right to buy the business but not to walk in and tell  all the employees to get off of the premises now and take your stuff with you. In about 1973 I worked overtime for months , worked Sats and Suns to get a down payment. I saved 1000.00. I was fresh out of the army and about 24 years old. I was so proud when I walked in that business to buy me a boat with all that money burning a hole in my pocket. I walked up to Rodney and told him I wanted to buy a new Starfire with a 150 on it. He said did I have any credit to finance it I said yes I had already checked with my bank. Then I said and I have a thousand dollars for a down payment and reached in my pocket to pull it out I felt like Howard Hughes, he looked at me and said man that ain't no money for a down payment on a 14,000.00 dollar boat. I was so deflated I just turned around a walked out. I mean he could have slapped me and not hurt as much. I went over to Texas and bought a boat the next day and the guy over there patted me on the back and acted like I was an important person. I bought a couple more boats over there before they moved away.
I now do business with Mr. Smith because he always remembers my name and is glad to see me.

I can surely understand that Papa...Sometimes these salesfolks just don't get it.....I've only bought a couple of jon boats from them and can't really complain...was paying cash anyway so no biggy there......

Folks don't have to be buttholes either...that really turns me when some of these business think they are "gods", especially when telling someone they just don't have a job no more..

But...I'd be just as mad at the formor owner of Reverside for now letting his employees know that the place is up for sale so you may wish to kinds be prepared for that...I have had nothing but positive dealings with Smith's marine...Hershel really worked to get me the deal I got and has done a few extra things since...service has been very prompt also...

Thanks for the insight on Reeves...

I've bought 2 small boats in my life. One from Rodney and one from Brad. Brad was just out of school and his attitude was O.K. at best. Rodney was a jerk. I've had to deal with him a few times since and he's been a jerk every time. Just the way he speaks to people. I have spoken to Rusty several times and I liked him. My dads friends with him and said he was a good dude. But evidently he's not there anymore. Just the jerks. I'm in the market as of today and I will not be shopping there no matter how good a deal they got.
